I finally got around to replacing the beat up factory transmission crossmember on OVERCLOCK3D. I wanted to do this before putting on the other skid plates... so as you can guess... those are coming soon!

ROCK HARD 4X4™ DOUBLEWALL TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER FOR 3.6L JEEP WRANGLER JK 2/4DR 2012 - 2018 [RH-9061]
Rock Hard 4x4 is very proud to offer the Heaviest Duty Transmission Crossmember for the Jeep Wrangler JK 2/4DR 2012 - 2018 3.6L.
Upgrade your factory 14-gauge stamped steel transmission crossmember to our 3/16" + 3/16" MASSIVE 3/8" DoubleWall Crossmember!
Total Weight: 27 lbs.
Our top and bottom plate 3/16" thick design gives you a total of 3/8" plate steel strength! Designed to fit 2012-2018 3.6L engines.
Ease of Install
In under 1 hour - including removal of your factory crossmember - you can complete this critical upgrade. We designed this crossmember to be a drop in replacement for your factory transmission crossmember. Simple hand tools required - no drill cutting or welding!
Precision Made Strength
Each crossmember is laser cut from 3/16" thick steel and coated in our weather and debris resistant powder coat finish. Strength is proven on virtually all Jeep enthusiast forums with glowing reviews. Since 2007 our skid plate system has been the undisputed leader in undercarriage protection.
Components
RH4x4 crossmembers are very recognizable for two major reasons: beefy unmatched strength and laser precision fitment. What makes up a RH4x4 crossmember is what makes it so strong.
Powder Coated Finish
Other crossmembers on the market come bare steel adding an unexpected and unfortunate setback. Ours comes ready to install right out of the box.

Thanks, great video, gave me an idea of what to expect, I did my 2008 jk, old one dropped out, new rock hard just slid straight into place, no hammer use, seriously strong over original!!!

Helpful hint. If you have the factory transmission crossbar in front of the crossmember, swing it 180°. Switch the driver and passenger side so the center tab face forward. That will keep the frame from spreading while you install the crossmember.

I have this exact cross member sitting in my front hall, and the matching transmission skid so this was super helpful. Glad you ran into some trail-caused fitment issues as no doubt I will experience the same and seeing how you encouraged it to move into position has me digging up the ratchet straps.

I run the RH oil pan and TC skid. I didn't swap out the crossmember because I felt like the two skids strengthened the stock crossmember enough for my needs. And after watching your video thats way more effort than I would be willing to put into a new cross member.

If mine wasn't beat up or I had already installed the skid plates I agree 100% but since I had the opportunity to do it now I figured I may as well. It is supposed to be a direct replacement, but having to deal with using the straps did add a little time to it. It was easy... But not "simple".

lol.... when i saw you tapping on that thing with a deadblow hammer... I immediately thought "block of wood and BFH"... aaannnd there it is. hahaaaa. Not sure how it would be with your LA system, but usually a couple of good raps on the mounting tabs to spread them slightly fixes most of that.

Timely video. I was installing new skid plates today and realized to do it correctly I should replace the crossmember. I already have skids that bolt into the bolt holes for the factory skid, does the RH crossmember have the bolt holes for the factory skid in the OEM location? Thx

Yep... It's exactly the same as the stock one.

What model Dewalt impact are you using? I have been looking at some of the smaller ones but not sure iof they would be strong enough.

Hey Chris, looks like that one took a little more grunt than usual. I'm curious if they were dimensionaly identical? I am assuming it is powder coated rather than painted? may be just slightly wider than the stock cross member due to the coating. Then again the mounting flanges may have been compressed at the bolt holes from the torque on the bolts from the factory. I haven't had the opportunity to bounce the underside of mine off anything hard enough to beat it up YET.

It is powder coated. I had to pry the original one out... So not surprised I had to work to get the new one in. As a structural cross member, I'm okay of it's a tight fit! 😁
