This sums up the young Noel Gallagher to the T. Problem with this is it doesn't do any justice to the older Noel Gallagher. In fact what Noel has done ove the last 11 years from working with the teenage trust to building his own studio and helping young musicians is remarkable. Liam is the same old guy who refuses to become a responsible adult

Noel is hillarious! I quite often search for new interviews from him and use them as a podcast. Just imagining him and Liam sharing a room growing up...The whole battle of britpop was blown up in the press and the artists themselves hated it. Blur are not very posh, but went to university and art collage and are middle class. Now they are all good friends. You should listen to some of the rock from Blur, it's brilliant. Blurs singer and songwriter is the man behind Gorillaz and has done operas and African music and is all in all a huge genius as is Noel.

At 21:20 when Noel’s telling the story about his conversation with the stranger, Liam whispered to Noel about the stranger “he’s got nits” hence Noel walking away abandoning - “Nits” are what brits call headlice which is easily caught if you get too close to someone who has them - this is a particularly funny story as the Gallaghers were both very vocal about how much they loved their hair and how important having good hair is to the band’s image (that’s why they used to rip on Bonehead so much)

@@Beamboy555 I was at a festival where that happened with Oasis!! Someone threw a small plastic bottle to the stage, hit Noel's leg, and he stopped singing, insults the public and starts threatening everyone, then storms off... after only 3 songs! Did not come back! We were all shocked at his anger! Every single person there began calling the next band, just chanting the name of the band, synchronized. It felt like a revolution! The next band, a metal band called "Guano Apes" (huge in my country at the time), was already there so they just started earlier. They were shocked as well. They brought it! And went on for a looong time! It was amazing! Edit: this happened 23 years ago and Oasis never came back to my country.

The Michael Jackson stuff Noel is talking about here at about 10 minutes is also wrapped up in Jackson's performance of "Earth Song" at the Brit Awards in 1996. In which, yes, he wore a white robe and acted like he was the messiah. The allegations were definitely circling him at the time, too. The performance is notable for when Jarvis Cocker from Pulp somehow got on stage. He was actually arreested for it that night. Best bit is who got him out of jail that night - Bob Mortimer. The 1996 Brit Awards is also where the clips of Oasis giving award "speeches" come from.

Blur were not rich people. Oasis came from the north, very working class people with strong accents. Blur’s members had very soft English accents, they went to college. Graham is son of a militar and Damon’s parents were teachers. No rich people but not that working class
@matthewwalker54303 жыл бұрын
Not sure Blur were necessarily "for the rich", Damon Albarn may not be as traditionally "Working Class" as the Gallaghers, but he would probably but considered more lower-middle class. Damon is from a very bohemian, artsy background though, unlike Liam and Noel who had a much tougher childhood. The main issue between the 2 bands was more down to the fact that they were 2 biggest bands in England at the same time, both competing to be considered the best. To be honest, it kind of put me of the pair of them at the time as I always felt there was enough room for everyone at the top. I loved Blur's 1st album and Oasis's 1st album and then it felt to me like record label shit after that, although I do like the music more now in hindsight. The only other difference was Blur were a southern band whilst Oasis were Northern, like you said, but that is a bit dumb as there were plenty Northern bands and Southern bands that existed too that it was never an issue, and then Noel and co moved to London anyway, to the poshest part of North London, so it kind of voids any argument that Oasis were the still the "Working Class heroes" anyway. To be honest, I love Noel, he's a great songwriter, but musically there is no comparison between him and Damon, who has proven himself to be a musical genius with Gorillaz.
@declanshanahan38883 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. The Oasis v Blur thing was a record company thing to earn more dough. I’d say Oasis were more into it than Blur. As a Londoner I liked both but preferred Oasis. But the Gorillaz were brilliant.

Blur were more middle class than Oasis but they weren’t rich before becoming famous. And there’s whole areas of the south of England that are very poor, especially in and around London. We northerners call southerners “shandy drinkers”, which means they cannot stomach a proper beer without having a juice put in to weaken it... basically saying they’re soft southerners. That’s what Noel was mocking there. It’s the equivalent of someone from Texas mocking someone from California for being soft and not a proper man.
