I agree that Pau's voice conveys emotion phenomenally. It's dramatic, but it always feels completely genuine. I also feel that the way she holds herself, the way she moves, and the grace and power with which she wields her drum sticks conveys a tremendous amount of emotion. I love that you appreciate that Dany didn't do some crazy solo just so she could grab the spotlight and show that she kicks ass on her instrument. DPA always impress me with their ability to make whatever choices serve the song - no egos involved. I love your reactions! Please keep them coming!
@steveherman69095 ай бұрын
Pau's enunciation has always grabbed me too- you get every word clearly pronounced. Perhaps because ESL classes early on were taken just as seriously as her piano lessons and then were incorporated into her songwriting. Ale is so automatic with her bass, plus the three piece band calls for her contribution to be more prominent than in larger groups, but thrilling to key in on. I agree that there is a "balance of talent" in everything they have written, and particularly love Dany's guitar in this song with a lot of it being subtle.

This is one of my absolute favorite Warning songs. It's really relatable. And yeah Dany has a great voice and I love her, but it's Pau's songs that tear your heart out. Pau has recently said she's been singing while playing since she first started playing because her teachers had her do it, so since like 6 years old, and it's become almost second nature to her. Also fun fact: Pau orignally wasn't supposed to sing lead on any of the Keep Me Fed songs because it's becoming really tiring for her to sing so many songs during their live sets, but she had to on Sharks because it was too hard for Dany or Ale to play and sing it at the same time because of the timing.

Fantastic breakdown as always Phil. Two things to mention. First - from the very moment that I was exposed to The Warning (their second TedX performance, back in 2017) I saw that Pau is very dramatic in her movements. She often resets her body and emotes with her hands and shoulders as a dancer would. The only item that I wish you had mentioned are the harmonies in this song. On some verses, Dany sings a falsetto over Pau’s lead and on others she sings in a lower register while Pau goes high. Interested in your thoughts on this.

This is the comment i was looking for. 23 is about the year 2023, not the being 23 years old. Pau is born in 2002, so in 2023 she'd be 21 and barely old enough to drink... in the U.S.

@@WhatIsAName8080 I seem to recall her saying in some interview or another that one could take it either way. Basically that number was chosen because it "sounded better" compared to other "twenty-something" numbers and sort of matches the other lyrics in the song, phonetically and singing-wise. She said it doesn't have any particular significance, and IIRC it was initially "21" but it just didn't sound quite right when sung in context.

As a working drummer for over 30 years who also sings backing vox, I'll say that this song is deceptively difficult to play and sing and is very impressive. Definately one of the best reactors i've seen in a long, long time. Your face from 8:19 to the sort of gulp at 8:47 really let us know how much you were enjoying this one haha. It's one of very few live versions of ANYTHING that i consider perfect. From the spotlights, the color of the lighting in any given moment, the sound, the music itself etc. Add to that how much of a masterpiece this song is, like your example of a harder riff would sound stupid, it's one of my favourites. And the way those riffs sound, they way that guitar is tuned, the jumping riff Dany does during the bridge... Goosebumps everytime, throughout and not just at the beginning. Without fail. Even just the "ending scene" of Dany underneath those lights, it's just.... *chefs kiss* Edited to add Pau has the better voice for ballads, Dany has the better voice for their "normal" songs (it's a sin to call them that, forgive me). Atleast in my opinion. And it's one of the many, many things that make them so, so good

Loved this Phil...love this song, always enjoy your short and sweet breakdowns with the Ladies. 😁😁. Pau's incredible talents shine through big time with this one, full on passion and emotion when singing this great song and we always talk about the "Dany Face" but how about the Pau face, so damn expressive, she is fully committed to her craft. Cheers and stay well Phil hope you get a new Mic stand.

Survive at Teatro is you want to see them not only have fun, and easily one of the best jam sessions as an ending. Also most don't see it, but them moving in sync purposefully to the song just adds more fun and joy to it 🤘 Now time to start this reaction lol

Pau has been wearing that headset mic from nearly the beginning of her drumming. I don’t know exactly how far back it goes but you can see it in some of their early videos. Experience is a great teacher. You’ve already done “Narcisista” so all’s left is “Revenant”, another ballad where she comes down off her throne. It’s beautiful!🤟⚡TWA

23 refers to the year 2023. Glad you listened to this one Phil, one of my favourite Warning tunes.

Great analysis! I think you are spot on about getting in that flow state and letting muscle memory take over. Pau has said in some interviews that if she starts thinking about the drumming or singing it can be harder to stay in tempo and remember the lyrics. Gotta let it flow!! (After A LOT of practice) 😅

I would see Phil's live reaction during The Warning's live performance. Phil, enjoy watching them live. So mind blowing! Please react to Animosity.
