This wasn't the first song of the concert. It was actually the second song (Shudder Before the Beautiful was the first song). Ghost Love Score was number 15 of a 17 song set list. The last song, The Greatest Show on Earth also has some incredible vocals in it. Floor isn't human - she's a Goddess sent from Valhalla to show us mere humans what's possible with incredible talent and years of hard work.

When Floor joined Nightwish... Tuomas : I'm excited to write for your voice. What types of singing can you do? Floor : Yes. I believe the technique Floor employs here is a false-chord growl. Her true vocal folds don't get involved in that technique. For a singer who can smoothly switch between growls and clean vocals, you'll enjoy watching Tatiana Shmailyuk of Jinjer. Great songs to check out her abilities include Pisces live session, Judgement and Punishment one-take recording (the camera stays on Tatiana the whole time in this one, so you can get some insight into how she does what she does), and Perennial live at Wacken 2019 (I love this recording because Tatiana is an utter beast, and the band is so, so sharp and tight - listen out especially for Vlad on the drums).

Anastasia, My understanding is that the vocal cords aren't used to make the growl she uses in this performance. The vocal cords are completely opened and the false folds above the vocal cords are engaged to make the distorted "monster" sound she uses. She has been doing this for over ten years now, and it's clear it hasn't hurt her voice. There are several voice coaches on line that specialize in unclean vocals; so there are videos that explain it in detail. Please react to the band Jinjer starting with "Pisces" (Live Session) and follow that up with "Perennial" (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019). You won't be disappointed they are a fantastic Ukrainian band.

Queen Floor is amazing, she has turned her voice into anything she wants, a perfectly tuned instrument. She uses false vocal folds to make the growls, does absolutely no damage to her voice, but it takes lots of practice and doing it the right way. I am a Floor Funder and she has Master Voice classes she explains different warm ups and things you might be interested in. Floor is the greatest and most versatile vocalist I have ever heard, and I have heard many. Great reaction, you should continue, she has a lot more shocks for you. I see professional singers and vocal coaches scratching their heads all the time at what all Floor can do vocally. Oh and the composer Tuomas and Nightwish are best I have ever seen as well. Perfect vocalist, band and composer, a perfect storm.

I said that when Tarja was the singer, the band had to earn its merits to become well-known while when Floor joined, the band was already famous, so much of her today's fame is due to this fact. But what I wanted to point out is that Floor isn't as special and unique as many people claim. There are so many singers out there who at least as same as gifted as she is but who didn't have the chance to get casted by a famous band. And I want to tell people that know so little of the world of music to be careful with superlatives like "Floor is the best and most versitile singer in the world" because that is not true and such statement show the ignorance of people who made them. Nightwish always starts their concerts with a banger (Shudder Before the Beautiful) and do the introductions later. Tuomas really doesn't like growling, but now and then he lets Floor get loose, as in this one. Especially in her 'Revamp' days Floor experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as switching from full operatic to serious growling in seconds and I mean serious growling. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wildcard' are good examples. To see her in full Opera mode, check out her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. The guest appearance of her with the band Epica singing 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa' shows how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe. We are certainly blessed to live in an era with her as a singer. As a Flooraholic and a proud Floorfunder it is good to see that her recognition outside the metal and rock scene is growing. But we still wait until a film producer asks her to do a title song for a future movie. At least one Oscar should be guaranteed.

The kind of growl that Floor is doing is a false cord growl. It is done correctly with the true vocal cords held open and only the false folds are used to make the sound. This is why this type of growling sounds so round and so dark, as the cords being held open mean it uses the entire chest cavity as a resonant space rather than just the space above the true folds as would be the case in normal singing. Since false cord growling, done correctly, does not use the voice at all, it cannot damage it or tire it out. This is different that distortion and fry screaming which necessarily use the true vocal folds in some way and carry a much higher risk of vocal fatigue if done incorrectly.
