also Bowie learnt his lesson early on, he then kept a tight reign on his financial managers,diversified his investments. Same with Tom Petty, he was hugely wealthy when he passed. Stephen Tyler said on Joe Rogan, he only started to see real cha ching $$ when he was a judge on BGT. his managers made a point of making sure they were too stoned to know which way was up. Or the ones you trusted and paid to look after your money, just didnt. at your own peril, many many musicians went stoney broke.

You might remember The Mamas and the Papas. When they broke up and went to collect their money from the record company (Dunhill/Warner Bros.), they learned that each one of the (4) members owed $250,000. 1968 dollars. Probably over a million dollars a piece in today's dollars. Denny Doherty told me this himself when we were working together on a stage musical. They put out another album to cover the deficit. It didn't do as well as their previous albums, but covered the debt. He was a very sweet guy with a great sense of humour, but totally cynical about the Biz. No wonder! RIP, Denny.

After wrangling his way outta RCA he then released the global hit album "Lets Dance" in '83 and really started to earn. Goo goo dolls held on they deserve so much more than most musicians. Im glad they stuck to their roots and remained real and down to earth. It saddens me to hear this about that their record label was such a corrupt deal for them . Way to go Goo Goo dolls for pressing on and preserving through the hardships of fame and fortune. A couple of young musicians from buffalo, NY with humble beginnings and overcoming such adversity. Im glad to see your still together and priorities have changed. May God Bless the members of the Goo Goo dolls and their families. I love you Goo Goo Dolls. Thank you for all you do and being kind to your fans and remembering us back home. Lots of love and prayers on your journey may God draw you out of the world and it’s influences into a loving relationship with Him to be filled with his love and peace to direct your paths and find that God draws us out of our trials and tribulations and the broken roads leading us straight to Him. To save us from destruction and be reconciled back to him through receiving the perfect loving gift Jesus Christ. May your blessings and gifts bestowed upon you show and glorify God that is my prayer for the Goo Goo dolls.

@@NintendoW11 Calling Leonard Cohen a Rock Star IS a stretch. Apparently YOU are the one who doesn't know what a rock star is: "A famous and successful singer or performer of rock 'n' roll music." If Cohen's music is rock 'n' roll, then Streisand must be a rocker too. Save your insults for yourself, they cast a bad reflection on you. I guess its your way of telling the world what a jerk you are. (Yeah, you earned that)

I met the Goo Goo Dolls playing a dive bar in Orlando in 1995. They were definitely bit downtrodden saying this is their last gasp before they broke up. I told them...well...you've now got that Name song that's going to be a huge hit just you watch. The rest is history...and they even topped that one with Iris a few years later. The original drummer left just before that album hit big...bad timing.

Cohen was forced to go on world tours to make the money, he was nervous about how well he would do but he sold out wherever he went. I saw him on one of those, so from a selfish standpoint him being embezzled forcing him to go on tour allowed me finally see him live, incredible concert. Still a terrible thing to have happened to the greatest poet/lyricist ever
@bagofnails66922 жыл бұрын
I also saw him on one of his post embezzelment tours, so from a purely selfish viewpoint, it was good that it happened. Obviously I only mean that from a personal selfish point of view and not in the wider sense. It wasn't entirely sold out actually, nearly but there were a few hundred empty seats at th back. That was in Dublin around eight years ago.

I feel genuinely bad for Dee Snyder. He was the ONLY heavy metal star with the balls to stand up to Tipper Gore, and he did it eloquently, truthfully and without fear. He explained what his lyrics meant and pointed out how selectively they were being read. Instrad of being grateful the heavy metal scene labaled him a traitor. Gene Simmons doesn't drink or use drugs, either, but it's okay for him alone apparently. Kudos to Dee, though. He os one of the very rare individuals who has successfully and completely reinvented himself. I respect the work that took and I respect Dee Snyder as a human being.

Wango Tango, Stranglehold and Cat Scratch Fever are "some of the greatest rock songs of all time"??? Christ. People can convince themselves of absolutely anything. Delusions on that level are almost impressive. And everyone knows Martin Scorsese secretly envies Micheal Bay.

These stories are all too common. I had a roommate several years ago. He responded to my ad on craigslist. He was a former member of, if memory serves, a relatively famous/popular metal band in the 80s. I didn't believe him at first, until he broke out the photo albums, the press clippings, his guitar, etc. Basically the same thing "We didn't know what we were signing, and now I legally can't produce music without paying them $xyz"
