I got my extra mags from advanced tactical RIA’s sister company and I haven’t had any problems with them.I am more than satisfied with my gun and mags .
@raymondproulx109511 ай бұрын
Nice review. I picked up one of these several years ago. My only complaint was the finish. It’s not evenly applied and has a few dull spots. It is very reliable and will digest anything I feed it. Trigger is decent. Mine breaks at about 3 1/2 pounds. Accuracy is acceptable for a pistol in the sub-$700 range. Just started hand loading 10mm. Who knows, maybe I’ll find the magic combination that makes this guy a real tack driver. Finding magazines is a real challenge. I finally scored 2 extras from a distributor in Montana. I also found two Para mags at a gun show that work perfectly. Having a lot of fun with it. I’m a big fan of the 10mm. I also have a Sig Legion and an S&W 610 in the caliber. Comparing the costs when I found mine, the RIA delivers the best bang for the buck. I understand these have become scarce and more pricey in the last few years.

I bought one of the first 10mm RIA 1911's in 2013. It's not a double stack, and being a very early model it has the polymer mainspring housing, non-adjustable trigger, and slotted grip screws instead of the hex head screws. That being said, it's as reliable as an anvil and has been my EDC gun for the last 10 years. I can't wait to try the double stack!

Bought one of these in the spring. Very pleased with the accuracy and reliability. Mine is not picky about ammo and has run a variety of hand loads and factory loadings with no stoppages, so far. Finish could be better, but at this price point, I’m not making a big deal about it. Extra magazines are nearly impossible to find. Since you only get one mag, this can be an issue. So far, I’ve only been able to acquire one spare. Nice shooter. My Sig 220 is slightly more accurate. However it was more than twice as expensive and only holds 8 in the mag. I’m recommending RIA for a good entry level 10mm.

Great channel, Sir!, I thought I have seen some videos that claim you can run 40S&W ammo through a 10 mm pistol. What is your take on this?

Some pistols will, some will not. I personally choose not to do this because the 40SW round is shorter and doesn't headspace properly in a 10mm's chamber.

Got a question. Academy Sports carries this gun at a good price but they don’t stock it. No gun shops around stock it there is my problem. I have small to medium sized hands and would really like to put one in my hand before I buy one. Is it comparable to size as most 2011’s? How much longer is the 10 mm frame vs a 45 2011 frame?
@Icarryone4 жыл бұрын
Grip size . . . okay, if you're comfortable with the grips on a Glock 20 or 21sf, you'd be okay with the grips on a 1911A2. The grip frame itself is just wider, not longer. Most gun shops carry a large frame Glock to use as a comparison.

Some semi-auto's don't feed certain brands of hollow points very well. Try several different brands and see if it makes a difference. You might also want to polish the feed ramp - this oftentimes makes feeding HP ammo more reliable.

How thick is the grip compared to standard 1911? I got smallish hands that fit a cz75 and a standard 1911 perfectly. I'm worried I'll order this piece and not have a proper fit so I can't reasonably carry it, which is 90% of my purpose for wanting it.

@Icarryone8 жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure what you mean by bigger? The RIA has a much narrower slide profile but weighs a few ounces more due to it's all steel construction. The grips on the G20 are a little larger and perhaps a little less ergonomic. Other than that, their overall size is about the same. RIA does make a commander or mid-sized single stack version but I'm not aware of any plans to make a commander sized A2 version.

Why is it so difficult to get a double-stacked 1911 these days? Especially in a 10mm? It's not like there isn't a market for them.

I looked for a cheaper price and no go on that price range of yours señor. But it didn't stop me from getting it and it's a beast of a pistol I too bought it for those same features and for going out to the woods type of scenario. Great review and beautiful caliber and pistol 👍🏽👍🏽

I used to live in Alaska and I can tell you pepper spray is definitely a bad idea. Most people end up spraying themselves and not the bear. This 1911 looks like a excellent pistol for the money I like 10mm to. I would have to feel the grips in my hand to decide I love the grip on a standard 1911 but don't like the bigger grip like the Glock. Does it feel more like a Glock in hand or still 1911 feel? Thanks for sharing 👍

So I'm really liking the sound and the looks of this gun. It looks like it might be my next purchase. What's your opinion on the finish of this pistol? It looks okay in the video and I've not looked at one of these up close. I have looked at RIA 1911's before and I wasn't overly impressed with their parkerized finish. Is this a better finish than their past models or the same? Now mind you this is not a deal breaker for me 'cause I'm still gonna' buy it I'm pretty sure.
@Icarryone5 жыл бұрын
It's a pretty straight forward Parkerized finish - but well done. I'm satisfied with it.

Many shooters mistakenly equate recoil with bullet weight, and assume the big 230 grain .45 round will have the heaviest recoil out of all the 1911 variants. Recoil is directly in proportion to muzzle energy, not bullet weight. The other factor that determines "felt recoil" is the weight of the gun itself. That is why an all steel 1911, can handle the hot 10mm with ease, while your plastic Glock 10mm punishes it's owners. I see them at the range. One mag, then it's back to the bag, looking for that 9mm.
@Icarryone2 жыл бұрын
I've seen that happen.

@@Icarryone It's actually funny how so many people buy 10mm or 357 mag and then almost never shoot them.

Opinions vary on this. The 10mm evolved into something Jeff Cooper never intended. Cooper wanted a 200 grain bullet moving at 1000fps, nothing more. Keep in mind, a 40 cal 200 grain bullet has better sectional density than a 230 grain 45. And at the moderate velocity of 1000 fps, it's still outperforming most 230 grain 45+P loads. My point is, you only need a 200 grain bullet at 1000 fps and you only need a 180 grain bullet at 1100 fps. Then the question comes up: why not just go with a 40 S&W then? Easy answer: pressure. The 40 S&W can achieve those goals, but it has to run at peak pressure to do it. The 10mm gets there easier.

I purchased one and yes, I didn't like one magazine. The factory magazine had a weak spring and wouldn't load the last round. The factory replaced the magazine as soon as they had received the defective one. The replacement is defective as well. The follower pushed itself out of the magazine before I had a chance to load the first round. So, here I am again with no functional magazine.. So, I ordered some extras through your link. Thank you..

Great video. Reminds me of my Sig Sauer 716 .308 review. About 3 weeks ago, I picked-up a souble stack TAC series RIA in .40 that has the full length dust cover and rail. It runs great with STI mags but I noticed a few of the mags that are factory-spec, which I also got from Greg Cote, will sometimes prematurely lock the slide back with rounds left in the mag. The lever will not fully insert into the notch but it gets high enough to stop the slide in the rear position. Are you encountering this with your mags?

+BlueonGoldZ So far I haven't had any issues running 10mm rounds out of them.
