This band holds a special place in my heart. When I first bought a guitar and started to make recordings with a friend in his bedroom at 13, one of our first numbers was "Should I Stay Or Should I Go". This was acutally the same year as the releas of Combat Rock. Rock The Casbah, Radio Clash, and later discovering the back catalogue, Sandinista, London Calling.

A great tribute to a band who combined two seemingly incompatible qualities and did it with ease: hard-edged creative brilliance and a superior intelligence. London Calling is one of the greatest aural experiences in the history of rock.

Hahaha. Tom Morello took a swipe at Sting and The Police with that Scottish Loch comment. Back in the day, The Clash and The Police didn’t exactly get along. Remember Sting referring to them as a bunch of delinquents. Probably jealous.

You know what? John is entitled to his opinion. But when someone like Tom Morriello gets up and explains how much a particular band meant to him and still inspires him; then maybe these "silly" awards ceremonies might mean a small bit in the grand scheme of things. Like a lot of people in 1978 when I first bought "The Clash" ( or as I like to call it The Green album), and The Ramone's "Rocket To Russia" it changed my life. I am glad these bands are recognized. Way to use inducting the Clash as an excuse to get on your soapbox about Operation Iraqi Freedom, Tom. I love you as a musician, and truly appreciate your passion for justice and equality, but using this as a venue for your rhetoric, *especially* so close to when Joe died, is disgustingly poor taste. No one is here to see you or hear what you have to say. If you're going to do it, at least do it the right way, as Johnny Ramone did.
@KP50003 жыл бұрын
Joe's politics were far more in line with Tom Morello's than fucking Johnny Ramone's. Love the Ramones, but don't kid yourself. Joe Strummer most certainly used any venue he could to push an anti-war perspective. Just because you disagree, doesn't mean he's misrepresenting anything.
@bigchief84933 жыл бұрын
Joe Strummer cried when the american imperialists played Rock the Casbah as they initiated the Gulf War. He was a self-labeled socialist in 1980s Great Britain. Have you even listened to The Clash? Strummer would agree 100% with everything Morello said.
