The Kanye West rabbithole is one that is completely worth going down, there is so much to this man that he truly has lived a thousand lives. I was lucky enough to get into his music when his first album came out so I was able to experience most of it in real time. While his music doesn't get outdated, it is still definitely made in the moment and very relevant to his life at that time, it is so interesting to see the interviews of him from and how they reflect on him and the music he released at the time. During the Yeezus Tour performance of this song there was full on fire and craziness happening. That concert was basically performance art, there was a mountain with a demon and he was in jeweled masks until Jesus came and lifted it off but not before laying on a moving cliff as snow fell on him and he sang about his mom dying. If you like more of Kanye's agressive stuff, I'd recommend to listen to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, The Life of Pablo, Ye and Kids see Ghosts. My beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is kind of a "Grande" album, amazing prodcution (a lot of Rock elements), he mainly speaks about the hate he had on the few past years and how he has overcome it, and also kanye's best Album The Life of Pablo is a bit of a mess, really meaningfull with the whole "Pablo" concept, also agressive and controversial Ye is a small album, really experimental and with some amazing tracks like Ghost Town (which is kind of a Rock song) Kids see Ghosts is a collaborative album he did with Kid Cudi, it's basically a continuation of Ye and it's also very experimental, it has alot of Rock Samples and it's just amazing. Probably missed alot of stuff about the albums, but this is just from the top of my head... I would advise to listen to these in order, but if you are more interested on a specific album, go ahead!

So thank you for stepping out of your cultural comfort zone and checking Ye out. Secondly I couldn't agree with you more, I've said for years that Strange Fruit should be part of our children's music curriculum. Along side a historical analysis of what happened in this country and how this country was funded for hundreds of years on slave labor. But letting kids hear a song as powerful as Strange Fruit and explaining the meaning behind it, letting kids feel the enormity that the song and what life was like under Jim Crow, that will only lead to a curiosity that will allow kids to do their own research and come to their own conclusions. Without the left or right media telling them how they should feel about this countries original sin. Rock on Homey!

You don't have to sing out of tune with autotune, it just corrects the notes, phrases that are not in the key. So you still have to reach for the right notes that are in a particular melody, and autotune just corrects some out of key moments

@joemomma63173 жыл бұрын
That’s a common misconception. You don’t have to sing out of key to make autotune work. You actually have to be able to somewhat hold a note for it to work. People think autotune makes anything sound good or that anyone who doesn’t know how to sing can sound good on autotune which couldn’t be further from the truth.

Hi! Musician here, Auto-Tune is a brand of pitch-correction and what it does is basically snap a pitch to the nearest note in the musical scale (major, minor or any set scale). So let’s say you sing an E but it’s sharp by 20 cents, auto-tune will correct that to exactly E. You can control how quickly the tuning happens, which we call the retune speed. This controls how quickly it snaps to the note, on fast retune speeds you don’t need to be off-pitch in order to hear the tuning as the human human obviously “shifts” between notes and doesn’t “snap” between them. This creates the robotic sounding effect. At slow retune speeds you’ll hear more of the singer’s flaws and if the singer’s good you shouldn’t be able to hear it too much. Kanye has got a very emotional voice and writes great melodies, which is one of the reasons why he’s my favorite artist. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that he’s a good singer tho.

i’ve always thought blood on the leaves is about someone who loses their identity to fame, fortune, and celebrity. in an odd way, i think the sample has relevance, strange fruit and the idea of being a slave to the image of yourself, so much so that you lose yourself. years ago, i saw somewhere that it could be loosely about kanye’s mom, obviously he supported her monetarily (first verse). how he’s been troubled since her passing because he never got to save her from his image/antics (second verse), or reconcile for them before she was gone. that’s why this performance is so powerful

The autotune here is like a super saturated live corrector, but the magic of it is that Kanye knows exactly the range he needs to go for the autotune to correct it to another tone, like at the end of the original song where he crates like a wave of notes, watch how he opens his mouth at the end of the performance, its pure autotune manipulation.

Hey man, music producer here. Loving your videos. I'd like to clarify something you said and I think you got a bit wrong. You don't have to sing intentionally out of tune with autotune to make it sound good. He's trying to sing well but we all naturally never sing perfectly on tune so singing well is enough to make it work. Specially, when we slide our singing gradually from one note to another that's when autotune shines, because he is converting that vocal slide (which contains many notes that are not naturally in the key the autotune is set to) into a stepped sequence. The better you sing, the better the autotune sounds. If you sing completely out of tune, autotune just goes crazy and it sounds like shit.
