Consider putting a JD 5060E in the mix. Bigger, heavier, and more capacity in every respect. Costs less than the 4066R and has better finance deals. No DEF or regen on the 24 models. No hydro transmission but the power shuttle is very convenient once you get a few hours in the seat.

Howdy Brock! As I have probably mentioned too many times before, I think it all comes down to how/what you are using the equipment for. If I were relying on the tractor full time, whether as a business or a farmer, I could justify the expense of the higher priced brands like Deere, Kubota, MF, etc. But for use on a small hobby or horse farm I'm sure I would be well served by one of the more affordable models. It would then come down to how close the dealers are and what their reputation for service was. Every manufacturer is going to have their hiccups... and to be honest I would be happy with any of them. Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠

My cab MT 3-57 has recirculate on the AC and it’s def a necessity. I cut a lot of overgrown fields and you def want to recirc the air while doing that and not suck all that dust into the cab.

Brock.... I owned a JD 4720 with the eHydro. The load match does not change engine RPM due to loading. Instead, in controls the transmission "gearing" and automatically lowers the effective gear ratio of the hydro transmission for more pushing/pulling torque. It worked amazingly well when pushing into a pile of dirt with the FEL. I could easily sit and spin all 4 tires, especially in Low range.

Every other Tractor I’ve looked at has the recirculating option for the AC. The only benefit to the way John Deere does it is if you’re constantly pulling air in from the outside then you’re constantly pushing air from the inside out which keeps the cab cleaner but a lot of John Deere owners complain about the AC not working good enough, so that would be a dealbreaker for me as well.

Great video. The 2025R was my dream tractor, but after watching some videos, I decided to step up to the 2038R. That was a good move. After owning my 2038R for almost 3 years, I have a different view towards tractors in general. The 2038R is an excellent machine but lacks lift capacity. If I had to start over, I would look towards the 4 series with a cab. When comes to brands, they all make good machines, but I like JD products. In almost 3 years, I had minor problems with my 2038R and JD zero turn. The JD dealer is not too far from my house, and they always promptly address the issues. If I need a part, they have it, or it can be ordered within a couple of days. That means a lot to me.

Great videos mate, we run a contracting business in Australia and have been running the 2-3-4 series tractors for years, we’re are now transitioning out of Deere as the price point is now ridiculous. I hope this changes as surely Deere will at some point realise they don’t have the market tied up like they used to. Whilst there a quality difference in some brands the top 5 brands now are pretty comparable to Deere with huge margins in price differences.

Very informative review, thanks! At some point I am hoping to go from my 2025r to a 3039r with cab…but like you mentioned the 3 and 4 series never got the updated operating station like the 1 and 2 series did…which is ridiculous. I thought it had been around 10 years, but they haven’t really been updated since around 2006! 😳

Great video Brock. I agree they need an update, with new larger cab, and agree 100% those rear swing out windows seen on the competitors tractors is super nice. That cup holder does suck, and my tumbler doesn’t fit either. At least it doesn’t fit properly, but still able to use it. I have never seen a competitor’s tractor that has as good of an ergonomic feel, nor quality feel that the Deere tractors have. For anyone who owns a Cab 3R/4R , Ken’s bolt on hooks developed door strut for the right hand door. I have it on both my 3R and 4R cab tractors. Love the hitch assist , love the e hitch and the new LED lighting is fantastic for night work. It is the exact same cab as found on the 3 series cab tractors, that is 100% true. Deere does offer SSQA it can be optioned JDQA or SSQA, your choice. Most dealers do stock them in JDQA. My 3R sets noticeably lower and has 1 step, where the 4R has two steps. I know you know based on your recent hydraulic videos, that you can bump the pressure set screw up a bit, you can get the lift capacity up in the 3k range with a 4R without any cost, or problem, just have make sure you have the appropriate counterweight.

My TYM T654, which is the comparable model to the 4066, has a rear lift capacity of 4270lbs and an FEL lift capacity of 3122lbs. The price is around $42,000. The JD does have some nicer features, or options that cost even more, but what good are those if it can’t do the same work as other brands. The extra $20k is just too much for a less capable tractor.

I just bought a Bobcat CT5555 it was not cheap but I really liked the features and power. I must admit 84 months 0% played a huge part in my decision too. White in the AZ heat and ducts for the AC and heating system were a nice touch too. Stereo prep already included too. No SCR or DEF was a must for me. We Moved from an open station Montana 2840. We are Getting older now and can't deal with the heat or cold as well anymore. Love your reviews keep up the good work! We also negotiated the inclusion of a rear wiper, cutting edge for the 74" bucket. We got the 3 rear remote kit and the factory 3rd function kit include as well. The first 400 hours service, fluids and filters were included as well. I just have to transport it myself to them for service. I also got fluid filled (Rim Guard) included. I added a backhoe to the 84 months 0% financing and got a mechanical thumb included in that deal.

You are correct about being debt free! I grew up on the farm I now live on and my grandfather was a mechanical engineer! In undergrad and grad school I worked in body shops and was a licensed cars salesman. I have updated everything here by giving loans on equipment. Cash at 1/10 the value for 30 days; one dollar return for every three loaned. My CAT skid steer with 400 hours came to me two years old for $3000, during the last downturn. I loan on any equipment that is lean free and we are about to enter the next downturn. I am sitting and waiting money in hand; I can keep it or sell it. Remember new is used once one buys it! What new costs 50k today is worth 25k as soon as it leaves the lot. It is a way to have everything one wants; but, it takes patience!

Resale is a huge reason I would go with a John Deere. Having had both a plastic and metal fender hood and fender tractor I can tell you if you drop something out of the bucket on to the plastic hood or as you drive through woods and scrape branches along the tractor, the plastic is by far more durable and doesn’t scratch dent or fade like all the rest. The ease in hooking up of the loaders and belly mowers is also superior on the John Deere! I hate those kickstand loaders. John Deere is by far worth the investment in my opinion!

I like Deere stuff in general but the 4066R that I had wasn't my favorite. It had two problems. One, being hydrostatic it was short of power. Try to take it out on the road with a bush hog on back and go up a hill and you would lose 10-15 mph. Second in Texas the A/C did suck. I spent $500 getting the windows tinted and that didn't help much. Deere tech charged it to specs. Stilll sucked. One problem is the AC vents are under the cab roof and no insulation. The roof gets so hot the cool air couldn't cool the vents off enough to blow cool air on you. Second as you mention no "recirc" function. I have had many larger Deere's: several 6022's, a 6125R and even an old 2555 with Soundgard cab. They all had ac's that worked well. Traded off the 4066R after less than a year...........

There was a bit of a redesign, not anything huge but the 4075 model came out and they’ve got a northern exposure package or something like that where it has heavier axles and they changed a few things and of course the motor is 75 hp now. I’m always torn with these because I kind of like an open station tractor and I see a lot of the four series in the M and I’m not really sure what the difference is but there seem to be a lot of them out there used and some pretty decent deals on some of them but buying used when you start getting into a cab with all the electronics is kind of a different story it’s a lot more that could go wrong as well and I agree about the price but I always kind of keep coming back to the John Deere when I’m looking though, I really don’t have a lot of experience in it. I like the TM for the price difference but like you said with the John Deere, you’re always going to get parts and in a reasonable amount of time and there are dealers everywhere if you can’t handle some thing yourself, the other thing I like is that there’s a ton of aftermarket parts and that includes cheap Chinese stuff off of eBay and the difference and the price on those parts is crazy. Some stuff like the mower spindles are a third of the price and I’m sure they’re not as good quality, but I’ve been using them and it’s nice to get a spindle for $27 instead of 97. But the aftermarket and little things like a switch or mirror, or a step, everybody’s going to have them for the John Deere and stuff like the TM and coyote you might be kind of on your own to build some of that stuff but with John Deere they’re going to have parts for it at every level and pretty much every manufacturer And it’s just so convenient. Like you were saying with an offbrand, you never know how long you might have to wait for a simple little part that keeps you from running. Another advantage I see on the John Deere is resale price, if you use your tractor, you keep it clean you keep it nice you don’t abuse it and tear it up. You’re gonna get a really good resale price on it, I see an old Branson or an old Mahindra And those models change so much you never really know what you’re dealing with in an older used model and it can get confusing but you know if you put 60 grand into the John Deere you’re still gonna get a good chunk of that back in five years if you want to sell it, withan off name brand you never know and if you can’t get parts for broken stuff, you may lose most of that money but you always know John Deere or Kabota. You’re gonna get a pretty good resell value on it as well so that kind of offsets the higher price when you’re considering it all.

@@RockhillfarmYT if you look, there’s a model called the northern something, and it’s basically like a heavy duty version of it and has a couple different features, I think there was something to do with the front axle having a truss or being beefed up somehow and I remember there were a couple other minor differences, but I don’t remember what they are now. I used to know what the difference on the model was, I think it’s something to do with the hydrostatic option, but I don’t remember that either lol. My biggest problem on these John Deere is there a little too narrow from my taste, the four series is a little better but I really like the 3046 size of a tractor but they’re pretty tipsy and I’d probably have to put 2 inch spacers on there and whenever I use spacers, I always worry about Whether or not that’s gonna put too much stress on the axles and from what people say a little wire and a bit more stable without the spacers, but I don’t really know that much about them to where I could say myself. That’s why I like these videos, you and Andrew are good at explaining things, and giving us a pretty good view of it from a video

You also said that the electric setup to move the tractor back and forth when attaching the 3 point makes extendable arms unnecessary. I disagree. When you are already bent over to attach the 3 point you would then have to straighten up your body to move the tractor and now bend down again. And if you still did not have it quite aligned stand up again. With extendable arms its not a problem. One time bend down and attach. 99 out of 100 times that's how it goes with my LS
@JCWren
@JCWren 2 ай бұрын
That's what I was thinking. If you're not 100% squared up with the implement, the creep feature doesn't seem as useful as extendable arms. I don't run any real agricultural implements like balers or anything, but what I do have are all set up for a Quick Hitch (tiller, box blade, bush hog, flail mower, weight bracket). With that, I don't have to be 100% square on because I can usually give it a little shove that'll bring it into alignment.

I’ve got a 4066R…that feature is overrated. Yes, it is nice, but you’ve got to go through a whole list of steps from the seat to engage it. When I’m struggling to hook up an implement, a quick move with the telescopic link would be welcome.

Get out and use these tractors, test the lift and drive them for some time before you call this a review. I have a 4066R and a Kubota L6060 Grand and both have good features and bad. Awesome. But you are beyond your opinion. Keep up the videos, but stay real and stay away from the clickbaity titles like this one. Just a fan's opinion.

I’m not bothered by your comment. I enjoyed the conversation Did you see my announcement the other day that I have four different tractors being delivered to the farm as Demo models so that I can do real reviews running them? I also have real seat time on most of the three series tractors, and both of the two series tractors and the one series on multiple different occasions. I’ve only run the four series at shows I don’t think the title is Clickbait at all. What does it say. I thought this was my dream tractor. I did think this was my dream Tractor. Now I’ve decided it’s a little bit too expensive This series of videos is supposed to be saving someone time from going to the dealership and asking all these questions so I would call it a tractor buyers guide I did put in the description because you have to type something there and buyers guide would never show up in search I’ve compared almost every brand of this size Tractor now and included prices and the differences in the specs. I’m compiling those for an overall Beyers guide from my point of view which I believe will save people a lot of time if they are shopping for one of these machines Multiple people told me they went and looked at the same machine I’m talking about, but didn’t realize some of the things I talked about in the video If I have any real skill that works for what I do, it is my ability to take in a lot of information and then summarize it in a way that is easily digestible.

@smurface549
@smurface549 2 ай бұрын
Hei Brock, I feel like we have some diverging opinions. Your reason why the higher price for the John Deere is justified, partly based on arguments that are either pointless or should be expected from any brand. The dealer network for JD is the biggest? I give a f*** about how many dealers they have - the important thing is to have a competent dealer close to my location. It neither helps to have a dealer close by if they're incompetent, not does it help to have a gazillion dealers in the country when the closest is a 5 hour drive away. You always got parts right off the shelve with your JD dealer? Even fuel filters and similar items? Come on, I get fuel filters and similar stuff for my 39 year old backhoe off the shelve from the local "tool and parts" store. Besides the fact that it's unlikely that an oil chance or fuel filter change comes out of the blue, I had ONE part for my backhoe that I couldn't source from any store and had to get it custom made for me - and that was a somewhat special part of the front axle that should never break under normal circumstances (I suspect, the previous owner was having an incident with the machine - if a 30mm track rod is bent, there was definitely something happening). But we're talking about a machine that was probably produces less often during the entire production period run than a single JD tractor model is produced in a quarter of a year, and it's obsolete since some 30 years or so. Still I can get pretty much any part for it. Sure, you might come across some Chinese brands or so where sourcing parts can be a real challenge. But any REASONABLE brand should not expose you to any challenge getting pretty much any part. Though a lot of it is also coming down to the dealer. If the dealer doesn't care and has no understanding for the customer needs, the best brand doesn't help. Is a machine better because it's American engineered? Definitely not. It's better if it has some features that no one else has or lasts longer or excels in a particular job that is important to the particular user. Apart from that, "American engineered" only comforts your patriotism. For some people that might be an argument, and hey, you're free to have that being the feature that determines what tractor you buy. It's your money. And please don't get me wrong, I'm NOT saying, the tractor is WORSE because it's American engineered - I'm only saying that a certain flag on the hood doesn't guarantee that it's a better machine just because of the flag. Granted, for compact tractors there's a certain chance that a JD is amongst the best you can get. Compact ones are rather unfamous in other parts of the world, hence it's difficult to compare. With full size tractors it's getting pretty obvious though - none of the big names is really having an edge over the competition and all of the "my tractor is better" claims are just bullshit. In some features a JD is best, in others it's a New Holland, in others it's a Fendt, in others it's a Case, or Claas, or Valtra, or JCB... Ok, maybe not JCB, my bad! Granted, that option to creep the tractor from the outside to hook up an implement is definitely a slick feature and might be worth something for some people. But I think, it's rather uncommon in the world of full size tractors, despite implements being changed there on a frequent basis. So to me it looks like a feature that is very convenient if you don't have a lot of experience, and of course can help for the intermedieate level. But the more professional the application, the less crucial it gets. If it's worth the money is up to the buyer, as always. All in all, not saying it's a bad tractor, but one should really be careful with arguments. Not everything that is quickly said remains a valid argument when thinking about it.

I don’t see where we have diverging opinions. I’m not ranking this John Deere tractor in my top 5. I would not buy it I did a poll asking viewers which Tractor I should get and 30% of people said the John Deere which was a close second to the Kubota. I wouldn’t pick the Kabota either. I repeated the justifications that other people gave and then I said, I don’t think it’s worth what they’re asking I said an oil filter for my 1941 John Deere tractor. I’ve had a lot of obscure parts for the tractor and skid steer and mower and those were all in stock too. I list the positive points about the brand, but that doesn’t mean I would buy it I think you could make a case that it is worth paying an extra $5000 for a John Deere. You cannot make the case it’s worth paying an extra $20,000.

@@RockhillfarmYT Well, then I obviously wasn't able to catch the essence. It's already 2:30am here, so I blame it on that 😀 I noticed that you mentioned the significant price difference, and I definitely agree that 20k extra is a lot of money unless there is a very very good reason to spend it. I myself wouldn't be able to find such a reason, but maybe that's only me. But I had a bit the feeling that you would try to convey the message that JD would have some perks that make it much more valuable than others, despite not really being perks as such but things I would take for granted for almost every brand. And that's why I thought, we would be having different opinions, but that's now also cleared out. But everyone can buy whatever they want. A lot of it is personal preference anyway and there is no ultimate solution to everything. Last but not least, your content is pretty informative, please keep it coming 🙂
