I have one and love it. Works for 99% of what I throw at it. Get a foot pedal power switch and put a wood clamp on the power switch of the unit and it's much more enjoyable to use.

Howdy Brock! Looks like a good value for what it is. I think your take on the uses is spot on. I'm a fan of not needing another gas motor to maintain, but it would definitely only be for occasional use. Suburban use would be perfect. Well done and thanks for sharing 🤠

I have the 5 ton electric log splitter from Harbor Freight. I've had it for 6 years, works great, its just slow, and yes, I hate the stupid 2 hand operation, I've thought about replacing the power switch with a toggle on/off switch. My firewood is split already when its delivered but some of the pieces are too large to fit in the stove, so I just use the electric splitter to split that stuff down to smaller more manageable sizes. I do have a 28T Gas log splitter, but really only use it if I end up getting larger rounds. I've split a few rounds of walnut that were 22-26 inches in diameter with that little log splitter, it'll do it for sure, but like I said its slow so trying to split cords of firewood with it, would take forever LOL, but it can be done, and beats swinging an axe, splitting maul, or sledge hammer pounding in a wedge.

I have a video on one of these, and some simple hacks I did to mine. I'm glad you reviewed one Brock! The "two hand thang" is an easy one to get around. I think they are underrated for the price!! But they will really struggle in stringy wood. Great video! Stay warm!!! Best, -- J. Andre. / Old Iron Acres

I bought one of these little electric splitters for just what you are saying in the video, for inside re-splitting and or just to make something smaller to fill the stove for the night. It's not by any means a replacement for the gas or diesel powered splitters but it does work. I have put some big snarly wood through it, and been surprised it works.

I am a 58 year old widow in NEOK. I try to process all my own firewood. I have a gas powered splitter, and a Harbor Freight electric splitter. I find the two handed operation to be very dangerous because of how close I have to be to the wood while it's splitting. However, the electric splitter is easy to start, unlike my gas splitter. I keep the electric at my home, and the gas powered splitter at my farm. The electric splitter is convenient because of the auto-start. It's too low to the ground on its own, so I always have it on a platform. To me, it's very hard to move because of the small wheels, which do not provide stability because of how close they are together. The splitter often tips and falls sideways when I move it. I will never get a small one like this again. yours seems to have better wheels and is higher.

I’ve been looking for things like this to keep connecting with my children. Thanks for what you do 🎯🧬🔥

I have Chinese version of this, great little splitter. I rewired the motor to stay on, and then it’s a one handed operation. I also use a hardwood block behind the piece I split, to take up the travel in the ram. Works for me. Not splitting a gate at volume , but still a handy splitter cost about $500 NZ, maybe US$260 ish.

I've started converting most of my equipment to electric, because it requires zero maintenance, zero fuel jugs, and zero trips to gas stations. EVERY time I try to start a generator or a snow blower or a lawn mower after sitting a few months, it requires my time, attention, and money. When it's time to work, especially in an emergency situation, electric tools with healthy batteries just get it done, and they get it done quietly. It's so nice to just pick something up and use it. The time savings is INCREDIBLE, and the lighter weight of most tools makes them safer and less exhausting to use. Given that my build is off-grid, not near any fuel stations, and I prefer the sound of the creek over an engine, electric drive is just the better option for me, and for a lot of people. They may be power limited, but they run, if you buy quality stuff it'll handle 99% of what most people need anyway. Shoutout to EGO, Ecoflow, EG4, Victron and SOK batteries.

I have an electric splitter too, very similar to this. I tied a piece of string to the lever, to a small plank as a foot operated lever. I feel a lot safer to be able to control a piece of wood with one hand. (My splitter is much closer to the ground, so I sit on a milk crate. )

I bought an electric 6.5 ton splitter off Amazon a few years back, very similar to that one, but it's one hand operation and doesn't have a return spring action to it. It's hydraulic both directions. It also sits on the ground. I had a couple trees go down at the time and I wanted to split just a bit now and then and didn't want another engine to maintain. Perks were quiet, cheap, and I can use it in the garage if I want. I would have been mad if I bought a bigger nicer one and never used it. These electric ones aren't for production or heating your house with. Not their niche. Thanks!

Might be a good option to rig the power switch to a foot pedal that way you’d still have a free hand to control your wood

I like to put my hand on the wood too when i split it so what i did was i got a piece of 1x1 and inserted in between the ram lever and the black guard .. this keeps the lever down so i just use the button to engage the ram .. then when i want to retract the ram i just pull the 1x1 out about half way .. the ram will go back and then push the 1x1 back in to pin the lever again to split the next piece .. works like a charm .. then i can hold down the wood with one hand and push the button to activate the ram

There are multiple reasons to like an electric splitter; no gasoline, no oil changes, no gummed up carburetors, VERY LITTLE NOISE. You can even use it in a garage in foul weather as you have demonstrated. I have a 16 ton Ramsplitter electric log splitter that my wife and I have owned and used now for about 15 years. We heat only with wood so we spend about 3 full days every year splitting our yearly firewood. We opted for the electric log splitter primarily because it is QUIET. We can run the log splitter all day (10-12 hours) with no hearing protection. Ours has a hitch and wheels on it and can be used horizontally or vertically. We typically use it in the vertical position so we can even split 20-30" diameter logs. Ours has a toggle switch to activate the motor, so we only have to use the standard log splitter hydraulic lever leaving one hand free to manipulate the round being split. We have never had any issues with it and will never go back to a gasoline powered splitter. It does require a minimum 20A outlet in order to avoid popping breakers and a heavy duty extension cord. While this would not be convenient in the field (you would have to have a generator), around home it is the perfect option for us.

I know everyone wants to listen to loud engines, smell the fumes and deal with maintenance of engines but I like a lot of electric tools. Now I don't want an electric chainsaw when I need a stihl 500i. I'd be happy to pay more for a faster, more ton unit that would do more. Like one other guy said, put a clamp on the safety crap and foot pedal for cycles. I think you'd have a decent machine.

California banned the sale of new gas-powered outdoor power equipment, such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and chainsaws, starting in January 2024. The ban applies to both commercial and residential use. Can I still use my gas lawn mower in California after 2024? Can You Continue Using the Gas-Powered Lawn Mower You Own? Yes, you can. The California Green Lawn Care Law applies only to sales and doesn't limit the use of gas-powered equipment by homeowners or landscaping professionals.
