John Beaudin has been in major market radio (Edmonton, Vancouver & Calgary) for 38 years and a music journalist since 1989. He graduated from Broadcasting school as a newsman so he would have the skills to write about the artists that inspired him since he bought his first Elton John album as a teen. In the '80s Beaudin was the host of the syndicated radio show ‚”The Cross Canada Report‚” which had two versions (Rock and A/C). Beaudin was also asked to be a judge at the Juno Awards (Canada's answer to the Grammys) Twice. He has anchored every position in radio including morning and afternoon drive and was a Program and Music Director for The Breeze and California 103 in Calgary. He currently hosts the evening show at Move 103.5 (formerly QM-FM) in Vancouver and on iHeartRadio.

The big record companies literally destroyed great bands and great talent because of their dearth of vision and an over abundance of greed. That’s the tragedy of the hierarchy of the. 70s, 80s and 90s.

To John - Shorrock left, Farnham left, Capitol records was done with the band, the band broke up. Broken egos went back home. Corporate papers and naming rights didn't mean much to them. They were poor business people. I get it all. But one man emerged to keep the songs alive; kept touring for the fans; and essentially kept the band and its music going. John, you don't ever lift Wayne Nelson up. Your snide comments about Nelson on this and other videos are obvious. Why don't you give Wayne some credit for being the last man standing? Otherwise, it seems like you would be kicking Foreigner, Chicago, Toto, Boston Three Dog and several others for not all being original members. This is a reminder of why I can only support your channel in small bits. You're a better talker than journalist.

Wayne Nelson is the onstage leader of LRB, but he doesn't own the name. Stephen Housden does - but he stopped touring with them 15 years ago. Housden is doing in own music now, has a band called King of Kudos. He lives in Cork, Ireland. Great musician, brilliant guitarist, but I stopped going to see LRB when he stopped touring with them. It's just Wayne and a bunch of guys I don't know. I hold onto the memories of seeing Stephen, Wayne, Glenn, Derek and the others on stage in the 80's and 90's.

Okay, so this was a good interview, but less than halfway through, we jumped from Wayne Nelson joining and doing the lead vocal on "The Night Owls" to John Farnham leaving the band. That kind of threw me off.

I saw John Farnham play live here in Brisbane, Australia shortly after Whispering Jack broke... he was awesome! My god, what a voice! And he's still got it. He closed the Bushfire Relief Concert in February last year in Sydney with Olivia Newton-John and Brian May with a stunning rendition of You're The Voice. I still think he is one of rock's greatest singers ever.

I saw him play November 2019 and oh boy what a show. His voice was better than ever and truly one of the greatest voices of all time.

Beeb could have sang this vocal and GG continued to fracture the band with his controlling actions. In fact in the BSG formation, Beeb sings the Night Owls and handles it in great fashion!

Sure he could have. Birtles and Nelson each bring the song to life. Don’t make GG out to be the villain. The consensus I get, and I have heard many accounts, is that Wayne Nelson saw an opportunity to revive the LRB and fulfill the original intent of the business plan...to cash in on the American market. Gobles, Shorrock, and Birtles saw things differently and didn’t want to put their aging bodies through the rigors of international travel. Nelson should have acquiesced and not legally “stole” the name from the founders of the band.

@@robmatijevich8910 Wayne Nelson didn't steal the name LRB. One by one, as members left the group, including Wayne, Stephen Housden ended up being the only corporate member left in LRB. As members left, they were replaced by others as salaried members. Wayne eventually returned to the band, but Housden owns the name. He stopped touring with them 15 years ago, but he still owns the name.
