Very similar with Heian Godan in shotokan karate Tang Soo Do Katas are very similar with shotokan katas

Sah bum nim, isn’t the hand before the pakheso anuro cha gi and elbow strike supposed to go behind the head of the enemy because other wise you just hit your own hand and if you put the hand behind the head of the enemy you force them towards your kick

Yes, that is an application. The hand and elbow strike shows up first in Pyung Ahn Sa Dan. It also appears in many other forms after, like Bassai Dae, Naihanchi Cho and Ee Dan, Jinto and Kong Sang Kun. Thanks for watching!
