I'm a senior black belt in shito-ryu and shotokan. I love researching the evolution of kata from Fujian to their modern forms. I found your presentation an illustrating example of how korea has interpreted the form in light of their own martial history and preferences.

I earned a 4th Dan in Kong Su Do under an instructor who is an 8th Dan in Hapkido, 6th Dan in American Karate and a 1st Dan in Taekwondo. "Kong Su Do" just means "Karate-Do" in the Korean language. Very few instructors still use the name Kong Su Do. Both the names Tang Su Do and Kong Su Do were used interchangeably prior to the name Taekwondo being used. Just a quick note: My instructor did not have a black belt in Kong Su Do. The name was just used to refer to the karate he was teaching me. "I learned his version of Kong Su Do." Which is a combination of Hapkido, Taekwondo, and American Karate. All of the karate katas/hyungs I ever learned are listed below. They are the only forms I needed to know to go from white belt through 4th Dan. Goshin Shodan Goshin Nidan Goshin Sandan Ki Cho Hyung Il Bu Ki Cho Hyung Ee Bu Ki Cho Hyung Sam Bu Pyung Ahn Cho Dan Pyung Ahn Ee Dan Pyung Ahn Sahm Dan Pyung Ahn Sah Dan Pyung Ahn Oh Dan Bassai Lo Hi

Didn't know Hapkido even had forms. Not familiar with Goshin, are those Japanese kata?
@Antoine2442511 ай бұрын
@@Rockholdkarate You are correct; Hapkido doesn't have forms. The nine Korean karate forms are taught in both Tang Soo Do and Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo. As for the three Goshin forms, my instructor created all three of those. After I earned my 4th Dan in Kong Su Do (Kong Soo Do), I stopped practicing the 3 Goshin forms my instructor created. Now I only practice and teach the nine Korean forms. I teach a small group of students, and I only require them to learn those nine forms to advance from white belt to 3rd Dan in Kong Su Do. I could add more forms to my curriculum, but I just chose not to. Because needing to know and practice many different forms can feel like a burden sometimes, which is why I choose not to. I like to keep things simple!

I'm not sure I am a Shito-Ryu practitioner Isn't this kata similar to the Shotokan style kata? I don't discriminate between style differences I learn from all of them.

Yes, it is very similar to the Shotokan style kata. Tang Soo Do get a majority of it forms from Japanese Martial Arts. Thanks for watching!

This is my current form for 2nd Gup/Red Belt 1st Stripe. It’s the one I’ll be testing on in June 2022. You do it just like I learned it except for a slight variation in technique. It’s just a few transitions that you do a bit differently, but essentially it’s the same outcome. I just learned the last three moves 3/7/22 & worked it more in class 3/8/22. It’s still shaky. Thankfully I’ve got 2.5 - 3 months to get it smoother. Biggest challenge: Keep Bassai and the 5 Pyung Ah forms separate without mixing them up! 😅 I’ve been working so hard on Bassai that some of the moves are getting into my 5 Pyung Ah forms. Just need to work the others more to keep them sharp! Thanks for sharing! Tang Soo ! 🥋

Awesome! It's a really fun form. Glad you found the video helpful! Sometimes it's helpful to practice all your forms in order, if you make a mistake on one of the older ones, redo the form right then before moving on to the next one. Another version would be to do an old form, then the new form, a different old form, then the new one. Thanks for watching!👊
