It’s so fascinating to imagine the time when these things were fossilized. Cool fossil finds 👍🏻

That was pretty cool! That big leaf was neat! I hope you can get it put back together! The best one you found was that complete single leaf, all by itself. It was the only complete leaf you had. And that one you found that the tip was missing and the stem but it was almost complete and it was a fairly long and thin leaf, it almost looked like a feather, but that one was a nice find too! You want to try to collect the things that are identifiable. If you can identify the species and type then you can date the fossil and it's neat when it's something that is still around today, but it's changed slightly from what it used to look like! But you had a lot of really nice fossils. And if you clean them off you must let them dry out completely. The rocks hold small amounts of moisture in them and you want to dry out the fossils completely and if it's a fossil that is flaking off the rock, it should be preserved with a satin or matte finish polyurethane. Just a light coating over it to preserve the fossil. if it's not a fossil that is flaking off the shake, then you don't need to spray it with polyurethane unless it is going to be handled. But you collected quite a few really nice fossils that are well worth keeping! I love fossils so this was an awesome adventure for me!

I found my first deciduous leaf "fossil" a few years ago in Wyoming. Lance Creek Formation. A great day for me. And I just subscribed. Keep it up.

I go to Douglas Pass near the FAA microwave station at least once a year. First thing I should mention is that the dome is not radar but a microwave station. You should avoid the top of the hill. That will expose you to (strong) microwave radiation. It's potentially dangerous. Don't want to boil your blood away. The smallish leaf at 6:29 appears to be a soapberry, Cardiospernum/coloradadensis. The big leaf at 8:32 - 8:38 appears to be a sycamore, Macginitiea/wyomingensis. Fairly common up there. Personally, my favorite find so far is a set of 4 one inch berries attached to a branch. Caveat: These are best guesses. I'm no expert but I do have a garage full of leaves and insects.

Awesome, thanks for sharing! That makes sense now about the dome. Now I know what some of the leaves are. Yes, fossils are not my strong suite I prefer crystals. That is cool that you found some fossil berries!

Hey RR, My wife and I planned to go to this site today and it was quite a surprise to see your video this morning. Perfect timing! Your video helped us to orient ourselves quickly. I found most of my good stuff within 50 feet of the road. I did get a leaf like yours, but half as large. Also found a few insects. Don't think butterflies and beetles, more like mosquitos and gnats.

Do you have a round about address? I'm was looking for some rock hounding locations while I'm out this way for work and saw this video this AM as well.

Been to this location a couple of times and I've had great luck. Lots of leaves, lots of insects and even a couple of feathers (Downy under feathers not nice feathery looking flight feathers)
