I took a trip into the heart of Puget Sound to do some rockhounding on Whidbey Island. I stuck to the west side on the northern end of the island, rockhounding at West Beach County Park, Fort Ebey State Park, and Joseph Whidbey State Park, and mostly found jasper. High tides lasted for most of the daytime hours so rockhounding was somewhat limited, but there is always good material to be found on the West Beach so long as the tide leaves some gravels exposed. I also got the chance to watch some brave souls surf in the freezing waters off Fort Ebey State Park.
