I don't know if this has been mentioned at all, but I believe you can kill Pharaoh Man with Wish Star when he is in his scripted segment. That would've definitely saved some time.

Tpcool You can. When I tried speedruning it saved almost 8 seconds! If Duckfist has Dusted Skullman he would have gotten a idem that if you have more than two health it will save you from dying.

Small comments like "It's not virtual console, it's homebrew channel" etc etc that occur during these runs can easily be misconstrued as sort of know-it-all interjections, but are almost always stated in a matter-of-fact fashion because in the speedrunning community, the exact specifications of how you're running your game are important. :v I hope everyone realizes this, because duckfist is a standup guy.

Wish Star is definitely a reference to Ronoa's ultimate limit break in Final Fantasy VIII. She does the same move with her dog, Angelo, as Mega Man does with Rush. The limit break is called Wishing Star in the English versions, but translated literally to Wish Star from the original Japanese. That guy sure knows his vidjya gahmes, I tell you what.

I believe that the animation that Duckfist had in mind was the Crash ability in Kirby games. Unfortunately, there are more similarities to the FF 8 technique Wishing Star which is learned by Rinoa. Both concepts work and are potentially used in conjunction with each other (i.e. FF 8 name, Kirby one-time use).

It's probably a double reference, the fact that it's an attack where a dog is thrown and has almost the same name - wishing star, in FF8 - as a Limit break is probably not a coincidence coming from a game with this many references.

Toad man weapon is actually a final fantasy II NES cameo, look at the little dot before the name, it's a spell . You can toad actuals Toads in FF2 and Toad is by far the best magic in this game as it is a death spell but with really high accuracy. Like you can Toad the final boss in one turn and kill him. It's nice to see some love for the most underrated FF game, the worst being FF7 of course.
