I would say that this is his best known song. I love John’s voice. He has a different voice that is smooth and wanting more. Have a great day everyone!

I would also add that "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones is perhaps one of the saddest songs I know 😞

Good Morning Don. great song. Not only my favorite John Conlee songs but one of my favorite Country songs period over the last 50 yrs. Right there with "He Stopped Loving Her Today' and 'Chiseled in Stone'. Great reaction and analysis. My opinion is sometimes you don't fall out of love but you just get tired of being in love and I think that maybe what happened here. Also great rating I believe the correct one. As for you being selfish in it, well that is your right since it is your rating. Thanks Ozark Hillbilly for a GREAT request and Don for honoring the request. Good day to all!---#UTRCM

@Mike Barnett That sounds about right---fantastic summation of part of being in love and what can happen once in it.

@@RockN2Country Would love to claim it as an original thought, however, like a lot of my knowledge it is stolen. in this case from Americana singer Dave Alvin and his song "Bus Station" . At the time I heard it in the late 90's I had just came out of a relationship with a girl that I knew I still loved and I felt like she still loved me but due to both of our human frailties and failures being 'in love' had become a real chore and I heard "Bus Station" and felt like that line just st perfectly encapsulated my situation. Good luck to your Scarlett Knights today, would love he to see them pull off the upset of the day!!!!---#UTRCM

@@RockN2Country You mentioned in your Reaction having a hard time grasping the meaning of the Rose Colored Glasses, and what "truth they hide". In this context, he's just a guy whose partner is gone...it doesn't matter why... and the Rose Colored Glasses only show the good times, and hide the truth of the break-up and the aftermath. ...and spare him from that pain. So he keeps on hopin', believin, she'll believe him & come back.

Was co written by John, my respect for him just tripled. In my opinion John is of three master vocalists from the 70's the other two being Gene Watson and T Graham Brown. Each has their own style and unique timber to their voice so that with the first note you know who's singing.

@@jcreateturner I edited my comment to reflect better what I had meant. Vern Gosdin got his start in the 80's and the other 3 started in the 70's. I don't disagree with you other than that Vern should be on anyone's list of great country vocalists.

Loved this John Conlee song. Another of my favorites by him is "Backside of Thirty"; don't know if you've reacted to that one. I'd like to suggest two artists whom I don't think you have listened to. They are Hal Ketchum and Ricky Van Shelton. I'm pretty sure that you would love "Past the Point of Rescue" or "Small Town Saturday Night" by Hal. I also believe you would enjoy "A Crime of Passion" by Ricky. Thanks much for all your reactions.
@RockN2Country
@RockN2Country 2 жыл бұрын
@John Davidson I've done "Small Town Saturday Night," and also done three of Hal's songs. If you ever want to check to see if I've done an artist or song, just type part of the name of the song or artist next to the little magnifying glass toward the upper right side of the page and it will bring up all songs or artists with that name. I'll add your request of John Conlee to the list, as I was sure I'd done it but it turns out I hadn't. :-)

Thanks for the reaction, great rating. To me, that's what makes a great country song, it's specific enough to identify the scenario but general enough that it can be interpreted by many people how they need it to be, to fit their circumstances. Keep reacting.

John has a warm, unique voice that added mood and depth to his songs.A voice and a singer who wouldn't even be considered for recording in the fake-country wasteland we're stuck in, today. I used to could do a fair imitation of it on karaoke night. I think you've done my favorite song of his: 'I Don't Remember Loving You,' but there's a lot more in his catalog, such as 'Back Side of Thirty,' Years After You,' 'Friday Night Bues,' 'Mama's Rocking Chair,' and 'The Carpenter.' You can't go wrong with Mr Conlee. That being said, I'd like to see you explore Mel McDaniel, who had songs like 'Real Good Feel Good Song,' 'Stand On It,' and 'Shoestring,' when you're choosing your next artist.

I've always "heard it" as that situation where you've put so much time into a toxic relationship everyone else see's the toxic stuff but all You see through your Rose Colored Glasses is all the times it was great and felt honest and real and everything you've ever wanted... but at some point we all wake up and see it for what it is. Domestic situations are like this an Abuser isn't always physical and isn't everyday and 3rd parties see it better that you do because you are hanging on to the good stuff like buried treasure. Leaving is hard even when you know you have to. Yeah been there done that.

When it turns out your love doesn’t mean as much to your spouse as you’d HOPED - CROSSED YOUR HEART AND PROMISED GOD YOU WOULD FIGHT FOR YOUR MARRIAGE UNTIL YOU ARE DEAD… then you wake up one day and realize that you are treating a person the way you want them to be treated, because it’s just about the only thing you have ever wanted. And you have that sucky moment when it clicks. Omg. He doesn’t even love me. That other person (husband of 14 yrs) even though he can’t stand you, will not leave. He’d rather just stay in it and treat you like crap just because it’s easier. Then you realize that it truly is finally time. And move out and call a lawyer. I’d rather die alone than die with someone who doesn’t even like me, and who is not sure he ever loved me to begin with. Um… Mourning a dream sucks so bad. I swear me and Jon Conlee must be a lot alike, because I refuse to think of it as a waste. I am keeping the best memories in my back pocket even if they weren’t as Rosy as I saw them to be. The rose colored glasses let me hold on to the good times, the good lines…
