When you start listening to the music just for yourself. You will have achieved PARROTTHEAD status And I think you're already halfway there. And one of the more recent albums that you have to listen from end to end it Take the Weather With You. And I'm sure many other PARROTTHEADs will agree with me

Jimmy's main problem was back in his heyday neither country nor rock radio knew what to classify him as.

Jimmy Buffett was the most unique entertainer that I have ever heard! Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he lived on the water and beaches! He had a phenomenol fan club named "The Parrot Heads". Jimmy wrote all of his songs. He amassed a fortune during his lifetime. When he died, he had $1 Billion Cash Dollars in his bank account, plus his restaurant chain...Margarittaville Restaurants! He also earned alot selling his novelties! He was great! He passed away on Sept. 1st, 2023! I bet ELVIS will meet him with a salt shaker in one hand and a cup of Mississippi beach sand in the other!(since they are both from Mississippi) They make me happy; these guys from my Homestate! ❤

The thing about his music is that he lives that lifestyle so a lot of the detail is spot on and makes the overall composition of his songs more authentic. He's a pilot, boat captain, all that stuff. He also has about 40 albums out there and most of them are really good.

Pretty simple story. This was a song written about a friend of Buffett’s that couldn’t make it in the modern world, so he turned to smuggling. Otherwise the lyrics speak for themselves

Jimmy is a story teller and tell stories about people he’d met and places he’d seen. He’s more than just country, he’s also calypso, rock - anything. He has a box set of songs, and the name of that set tell you about his music - boats, beaches, bars & ballads. I hope you try more of his stuff. He was one of a kind. RIP JB

Thanks Jacob for the rrquezt. While Jimmy is widely known for his up tempo fun songs my favorites are his songs that ate more poignant. A friend turned me onto this side of Jimmy in 1990 and I was completely blown away. My favorite, amongst many great ones is " He Went to Paris" why change was covered by Waylon but I always preferred Jimmy's rendition. Thanks Jacob for getting Jimmy on the channel.----#UTRCM

Buffett is one of those artists that you never know which way he's going. Several people have suggested "He Went to Paris" and "Come Monday". I would agree with both those recommendations, then take a 180 degree turn with "Gypsies in the Castle." Great review.

He certainly has a story, but it’s not autobiographical (although he toyed with the idea of running drugs) It’s written about a smuggler he met (and became friends with) while in key west named Phil Clarke. Once again, he was a great story teller

I was at the concert in Cincinnati where the term Parrothead was coined. He's always been a favorite of mine. Check out Cowboy in the Jungle. It's a story song that has some really poignant lyrics, like the following: Alone on a midnight passage I can't count the falling stars While the Southern Cross and the satellites They remind me of where we are Spinning around in circles Living it day to day And still 24 hours maybe 60 good years It's really not that long a stay

Jimmy has so many legendary songs, it so hard to pick favorites! Been to a few concerts, both decades ago and recently, and bought a lot of his later vintage CDs. Every one is a treat in its own way. I say my favorite album is FRUITCAKES! Everybody's got a Cousin, Fruitcakes are plainly a hoot. Very touching love songs, and the song Delaney is about his daughter. The most surprising album I found is his rousing Don't Stop the Carnival... First hearing made me wince and wonder why I bought it, no song was the least bit familiar. The album is actually a soundtrack for a musical, on stage comedy, and reading the liner notes paints a fabulous mind picture. After that, each hearing got richer, became a high point on a long car trips!!!

Okay first of all 99.9 of his songs are stories. If you want to get into JB listen to the box set. Beaches Boats Bars and Ballard's. And the you had to be there live album. I was at the Atlanta concert, we were the ones he pointed at and said. ( We can smell that shit up here ya'll are going to be real hungry when this show is over 😂 ) I can't count how many times and places I've seen him, but it's always like a big party with friends. Do yourself a favor and go see him live.
