Just a quick 'thank you' for this video. Watching this video gave me the confidence to service my own RS Gold 35, and remove the spacer to make it 160mm. I now have a much better fork as a result of the service. (2019 Turbo Levo Alloy). And I really mean MUCH better - the fork now actually works! :-D Thank you.

Nice vid, cheers! Anyone struggling with fitting the new wiper seals and doesn't have the specific tool, just pop them in the freezer for 20 mins. This causes the wiper seals to shrink slightly and makes it much easier to get them in by hand. You can also use the old seals on top if you need to result to mallet bashing.

They make some really awesome and not much more expensive than regular C clip pliers that ratchet down and make it so you don't have to hold the tension on them when installing you just squeeze it down and it holds itself. Getting the back of the clip started first then working to the ends of the clip also helps. Another trick is to use a socket that goes over the shaft and inside the tube and use it to tap the seal back enough to show the C clip groove fully. Just some tricks from a heavy equipment mechanic.

I found it easier when taking off and putting on that dreaded air spring Circlip to take the forks out of the stand and sit them upside down to do it.That way you can hold the forks in between your legs and it gives you a bit more force to put the bitch-clip back in.

How are you adjusting the negative chamber

There is no adjustment. No dimple on inner stantion to allow air to pass. Only negative chamber fills on top out after big hit.

I know the spec says the travel is adjustable between 100-160mm, but do you think it is possible to reduce the travel even further to 80 or even 60mm, by just stacking more spacers?

Manufacturer says 100 is the min. Might have to do w compression and rebound dampers

i just bought a Rockshox Domain RC 160mm. Unfortunately to add travel i have to buy a new air spring. I'm thinking of going to 180mm. It sucks to have to buy a new air spring but atleast it's not too expensive at only about $45.00. I'm just iffy about taking the fork apart.
@mikemtbs6 ай бұрын
I completely understand. Buying something expensive then Buying something else for it sucks. Your gonna need to buy oil for the lowers and a torque wrench for the bottom bolts...just so you don't overnighter them.

Hi Mike, apologies if already asked and I missed the reply. Does shortening the travel shorten the fork in equal measure ? I mean If I go from 130 mm to 120 mm does the distance crown to axle reduce also by 10 mm ? thanks in advance
@mikemtbs8 ай бұрын
Hey good question. Yes it will shorten by 10mm and steepen your head tube angle by a half degree [.5deg.]

Sure just take out all the all-travel spacers. Also adjust the oil level in the compression/ rebound leg.
@scmilitzbauer32610 ай бұрын
are all rockshox 35 gold have the same air shaft?, im currently using 120mm fork
@mikemtbs10 ай бұрын
Yes all the same airshaft with travel spacers to determine fork stroke. Your 120 has travel spacers to take 160mm and turn it into 120mm. Pretty sure 160mm is the shaft, just travel spacers that determine the stroke.
@LaurentiusTriarius Жыл бұрын
I had these come on a stock bike I ran them at 160mm with almost 80 psi for most of the summer without major quality degradation, I switched to a zeb (ultimate) apart from the serviceability issues I don't feel the zeb is worth the difference... It's like 3x the price with 20% more sophistication.

@StruggledBeats bottomless tokens and all travel spacers are not the same. Your correct about the diameter of the bottomless tokens but you need all travel spacers that you install on the air ahaft to change the forks travel.

So the small spacer makes it 130 when removed and the large one is another 50mm? Is that right?
@mikemtbs Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no. The small spacer (10mm) is the only one that can be removed to change the travel. In my case I have 150mm of travel and by removing the (1) all travel spacer (stock on my 150mm fork) I was able to make my fork have 160mm of travel. Each all travel spacer is 10mm, unless there is a larger one in your fork (that im not aware of). If you want to see an exploded diagram go to www.sram.com/en/service and download the Rockshox Spare Parts PDF and go to page 70 to see what the travel spacers look like. Hope this was a little more help for you.
@Pomdigga5 Жыл бұрын
With the all travel volume spacers, do you so happen to know if they are individual 10mm pieces or if for shallower travel forks they come as one piece? Eg. 130mm fork having 3x10mm spacers or a single 30mm piece.
@mikemtbs Жыл бұрын
@synolypse all the travel spacers are the same size and they come as individual pieces. You would have 3 10mm spacers in a shorter travel fork not just one. Hope this helps
