I first saw this video and all the other 60 Day Challenge Rocksmith stuff last year mid September. I had a guitar that I never learned to play sitting in my house for 20 human years (I'm 36). I bought Rocksmith and played everyday for just 15-30 minutes for 60 days and then re-watched the videos and realized I was on the same skill level as all the people in them. Now just after five months I am playing about 1-2 hours a day. Don't dismiss Rocksmith as a valid teaching tool because it is a game. Six months ago all I could play was an open E chord, now I can actually play guitar and bass guitar enough to impress friends and family.

I see so many people saying they still sound like shit. Well as a guitar player I can say that everyone doesn't take to playing guitar naturally. Those are the people this game is made for. It will give you the foundation you need in order to want to put in the effort to get better. Rocksmith will give you the notes and teach you how to play them. Practice will give you the feel for the song. Don't think that you're going to pick this up and be amazing in a few weeks. But with this and enough practice which this game makes more fun, you will be a guitar player

This. I've been using Rocksmith to learn a few basics and since then, I am able to play faster and do more complicated stuff. I tried first playing guitar back in 2008 and gave up because everything was complicated and you get overwhelmed while this game starts you slow and builds you up. I'm not the best guitar player obviously but Rocksmith has really helped me get started. I started using the original Rocksmith back in May so I've been playing for 7 months and compared to where I was then, I am much better, now.

I think half of what Rocksmith does for you, is boost your ego and selfesteem towards the guitar. Ok, maybe it's teaches it to you wrong, or those that have played 60 days still sound like shit to those who've been doing this several years. I got an acoustic guitar as a present 2 years ago, and been to afraid to try learning it due to the daunting size of the task. This is great. In the advert of the 60 day challenge the guy said he didn't feel like a noob any more. I laughed because when you look at say Technical Difficulties, you definitely feel like a complete noob again! It is such a great idea though, from someone who has played guitar for over a year now, the more people who play it is cool. Having many people to talk about it is nice for sure.

It is a smashing one off product for mastering guitar scales without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate finally got great results with it.

I think that Rocksmith is a great game guitar tool, sure it will guide you on how to play but after awhile it will be your own effort and determination to progress beyond the game. It basically gives you the ingredients and it's up to you to put it all together and make some tasty sounds. P.S Session mode is AWESOME

Does this game only deal with standard tuning and drop d? Like are the songs on the game the same tablature but played in a step or half step away from what they were recorded in? I figured system of a down played most songs in drop c so im curious as to whats going on with that

Coupla things... For the people commenting on the guitar... That is an Epiphone Wilshire. If it is an original it was made in the 1960's and it might have been his Grandfather's guitar. Otherwise it is a re-issue... Around $500. If you are one of those who wonder Why many videos have Epiphones... Back in 2012 and 13 you could get a Kit that came with a Les Paul Jr or a Les Paul Special. Also, Guitar Center was offering the Rocksmith program with other Epiphone guitars to get "beginners" started. Finally, I came here looking of info on Rocksmith because I just bought one online, and I will be running it thru my Laptop.... I will be using an Ovation guitar, or a BC Rich Mockingbird, or a Traveler MK2, or a Shredneck LP guitar... I don't own a Epiphone, but I would use it if I did. I already now how to Play guitar. But everyday is a chance to learn something new. This will be just another tool.

I think that it's good that people are connecting to music through gaming, however, being an avid guitarist, playing the guitar requires dedication, most people put the guitar down after a few days of picking it up. for Pc there is a patch, but I wouldn't bother with it at this point. You get a lot of distortion, echoing and acoustic feedback (Larsen effect). The cable is kinda expensive and otherwise useless for people with a good audio interface, but I ended up buying it and the experience is so much better.

Uhm, i'm kind of not sure this isn't staged... @ 3:20 he's playing you really got me going, and the chords should be F to 2x G back to F and back to G, but he's only going from F to G and staying there... just saying. also he's constantly looking at the guitar. when i'm playing this i don't got too much time to look at where my fingers are because i have to see what notes i got to play... besides that think rocksmith really is a good thing for learning. i'm a newb myself and i started on christmas and can play a bit now. but it's not the best way on learning how to play songs from memory. I'm missing the stroke patterns, which are really important on more complex songs, and a kind of note or tab-sheet where you can just look up the tabs without having them move at lightspeed. sometimes the notes are so close together you cant' even see them at 1% in the riff repetitor...

My only problem with this game is the fact that it doesn't seem to address anything about proper technique, from what I've noticed. They all hold the pick somewhat awkwardly, they only down strum/pick, and I feel like that will really mess some people up, in the long run.

ive played guitar for 5 years i picked up the game. It dosent teach you to play guitar it teaches you to play a song on the guitar. I doubt any of them can do proper precise bends and can use all 4 fingers accuratley. Most importantley they dont know notes which is near impossible to learn a song without.

They are correct. Game helps you with so much more than just the songs. The songs are mainly there to put the lessons into practice.

Had guitar for like 3-4 years before having that game, all I knew were simple cords and some note struggling. this game taught me scales, that I don't think I would EVER get without the beautiful simple display it has, it taught me techniques that I couldn't do before (bending, which I could've done but not this flawlessly and accurate, beautiful clean slides, tapping, ho/po, etc), and many cool riffs from songs that I like. I can now understand how scales word, what cords are, how to make my own shit, what techniques I can use to make it more colorful, how to pace things, fast, slow, really fast.. The whole guitar makes sense now, everything around it is a play ground and I can just start playing whatever just like that, no riff build, nothing, just me jamming, which makes me burst out laughing because that was impossible before. Yeah, these videos look sketchy about "how fast they do it", but this game DOES in fact teach you a lot about guitar playing.
