I believe Ty is probably a bigger success without INXS. He travels the world; sings with top stars, he came into his own...Vintage Trouble. He is an inspiration.

Thanks for posting all of these. Loved this show back when it aired. Went through Katrina which was mentioned on this episode, so I didn't ever get to see this week or the next few weeks as I was dealing with the aftermath. Looking forward to seeing what happened in those missing weeks, although I did see the finale so I know how it all panned out. Thanks again

Marty's performance of Wish You Were Here was what had me hooked on him and wanting him to win after Jordis left. But I must say, looking at this from the beginning, I caught Jordis at the right time when she sang Layla. Marty was amazing from the get go. Absolutely phenomenal. He and Dilana were both in very similar circumstances, runner-ups, encore for Lithium, singing for LA Guns, etc. I would have been a Marty fan looking back now.

@James H They wouldn't have needed the show if Michael was around, now would they have? The band was looking for a replacement, not a new direction, and JD was the only one who recognized that. They didn't wan't to become theatrical, they didn't want to become The Killers, they wanted to remain INXS and they focused on the guy that showed he might make that happen. He wrote the song that sounded most INXS like with Pretty Vegas which ended up being their last hit, and if you listen to the album (which they were already laying down before they picked a singer) there were song like Devil's Party on which he sounded like a Hutchence clone. The fact that 15 years later people still don't get that is exactly what they were looking for, not the nicest person or even the "best" singer, is pretty pathetic

One thing that always bothered me about this show, was the incorrect interpretation of its goal that most people had, including the contestants. It wasn't a popularity contest. It wasn't a competition to find the best singer. It was an audition to be the singer for a specific band, with a specific style, and a specific sound. Many bands audition new members and turn away people who are technically better musicians/singers, but don't truly fit the sound or vibe. This show started off with 15 amazingly talented singers, and 14 of them left because they weren't a good fit for that band. To imply there was any other reason is to be a poor sport.

I watched this when it first came out, and I was in my twenties. I thought JD was a crybaby who was CLEARLY an "addict", which future years proved to be true. He probably lived out of his car because his family couldnt tolerate his manipulating crybaby fit throwing addict self, and gave him some tough love. Marty Casey should have won this competition. He is focused, knew what was, and is, current, put extra time into learning INXS' new song, was prepared for each thing thrown at him by the band, had a clear head, and INXS would be just as big as they were in the 80-90s if they would have taken JD to an addiction clinic to get the help he clearly needed, and hired Marty to take them into the future. Its sad to see them fall so far because "change" wasnt something they were or are ready to do. So sad, because they were such a great band, and Marty is killing it on the music circuit with his own band now.

@GemGoddess16 жыл бұрын
Agreed -- he could put on a fun set, but he didn't actually show much versatility throughout this competition. He's got a heck of a voice, crazy well-suited to gospel, bluesy-rock, and other similar genres, but I couldn't listen to an entire concert with him. The constant vibrato would wear me out. Also, he had serious "resting b!tch face." lol

@@CaperCountry Exactly. Ty was and still is an excellent singer. Not for that band though. I think it's a shame how people still don't understand all these years later that this show was not The Voice or American Idol, they weren't looking for the "best singer". It's actually true. As a former radio host, I interviewed Suzy after the finale and she had heard that INXS had actually selected JD in the very early stages. Although they didn't know it at the time until after the show had completed. I always knew that JD would not last long in the band because of his inability to play well with others and that, Ultimately, would spell his demise within the group.

Elvis Presley broke that door down for everyone. They threatened him with jail time, said awful things, but he took it for team for all singers and genres. As he said: I don’t sound like nobody.” And so true, he was unlike anything or anyone , still to this day. His humanity and giving back more than he kept for himself is remarkable.

I believe Ty feels the prejudice. I live where he is from. You can tell he has intelligence with the words he uses. In Southern California, we are less prejudice. We go to school with everyone. Only 12-19 % in Southern CA have blue eyes-depending on the city We are a mix and we're proud of it.

So what? Are you suggesting that Ty should have been chosen because he’s black?
@afaceinthecrowd19832 жыл бұрын
He can sing just like the rest, and like the rest they all needed their own bands for their unique style and sound. Just wasn’t a fit for INXS. So SICK of the division. RnR and where ALL ppl come together, and for the record RNR originated from Southern Gospel where ppl really feel it and sing it with soul. Combined with blues and Rockabilly, and then there’s Southern Rock. You should hear the tambourines and God’s ppl singing while the spirit moves. It runs from your head down to your feet. Like Little David played on his harp and danced before the Lord. Then there’s what we call “shouting.” Full of humble joy and like Elvis Presley, filling it run through him, couldn’t settle down. Fun fact: Elvis wanted to be a Gospel Singer and sang that every morning and when friends were over. Mama Cass sang Amazing Grace with him. God used him through the back door for witnessing power. Also Michael Hutchence and some started to be a Christian Rock band. Michael had a beautiful Christian traditional funeral. They also have a beautiful service for Malcom Young and hymnals sang.
