Belgian Fries are cooked in beef tallow, that's why they taste so good. Every fast-food joint cooked their fries in beef tallow (pre 1990s) before they were pressured into using seed oil by health activist who didn't know better.

My friend and I stayed in downtown LA on 4th off Spring. We were in walking distance from one of the really great landmarks in downtown. Philippe’s the Original is across the street from Union Station. They have the original French Dip, and it’s available in several meats. I’m a sucker for their lamb dip.

I worked across the street from Johnny's in 1960s, Crenshaw & adams (near Leo's barbecue)!. I got hooked on LA/OC pastrami's ever since. After 100s of pastrami sandwiches I've never regretted eating one in SoCal. My favorite place goes to the HAT. Sadly I moved to LV a couple years ago and still haven't found one decent pastrami :(

I’ve been many times to Johnny’s Pastrami on Sepulveda in West LA. I don’t think they have that Marble Rye sandwich, but it’s been too long. I need to go to Langer’s! One thing you neglected to mention. The subway station is literally right across the street. Red and Purple (I forget the new letter designation) lines. Oinkster is new to me. All looked amazing. To continue your journey, you must go to Brent’s in Northridge which is Los Angeles. The Black Pastrami Reuben is to die for. Well, a heart attack is guaranteed. LOL. The Hat, Canter’s Deli on Fairfax many famous deli’s in LA have closed, sadly.

johnie’s in jefferson park is under new ownership. all of the sides are different than what it was famous for for many years. to their credit, the new owners kept the old smoky pastrami flavor but raised the price of everything quite a bit. the place looks a lot better too, but it’s sad that the original owners weren’t able to hold on to that iconic establishment

The new owner has changed the look and taste of Johnny's Pastrami. More Gen X these days. The place was boarded up several years ago. At night, guys would be selling things there out of the trunk of their cars at Johnny's Pastrami back in the '70s! 😂

Brent's in Northridge is amazing. I've been going there for 30 years. Incredible pastrami and the best corned beef I ever had. Their rye bread is my favorite too. Really nice servers there also.

My family used to own that property for decades. Back then, people used to lined up a few blocks. Everybody's favorite place, and no damage during LA riot even nearby Pep-Boys were burnt down. There was no side menu. Just pastrami and pickles and peppers. Not greasy at all, they used to give chunks of meat, i had to put some on side. It was awesome.

Use to go to Johnny's in the 60's, best French dip Pastrami. The waitresses were something special, they could remember your order no matter how many people they were serving. I don't know how they did it.

@@sarahbaartmansrevenge Sorry, Johnny's on Adams and Montclaire (near Crenshaw) was the best pastrami, especially if you got the double dip. I've been to the Culver City location near Titos Tacos, it's good, but not as good as the one on Adams.

@@sarahbaartmansrevenge That is new. Originally, it was only a take-out place with just a parking lot. It closed for a while in the 90's or early 2000 and when it reopened it looks like they added tables according to the video (to be honest, I have not been since it reopened).

When I make pastrami French dip sandwiches, I add Giardiniera, the Italian pickled assorted vegetables. I do this because the Chicago Italian beef sandwich is also a French dip, and a Chicago-style French dip sandwich without the Giardiniera has a key component missing.

After growing up in the San Gabriel Valley since 1970, I am biased for The World Famous Pastrami by The Original Hat on the corner of Garfield & Valley in Alhambra AND both Tops Burgers in Pasadena are also have amazing pastrami. Weather it's Tops on Walnut & Hill St or Tops on East Colorado, there both equally good. BTW; not all Hat restaurants are created equal. The Hat in the city of Glendora and city of Rosemead are subpar compared to the Original Hat in Alhambra which never lets down, the pastrami meat is always soft and thin cut but packed on, the Au-Jus from the pastrami meat is damn amazing and why I always get my bun double dipped.

I had The Hat many times but my favorite for the last 25 years is De Simone Deli in Huntington Beach. Give it a try if you're in the area. It has mozzarella cheese (but pickles are extra) and has less, but higher quality meat, giving it the perfect meat to bread ratio.

I think the best is Eastside Italian Deli Downtown L.A. Near Dodger's Stadium. The #7 - Roast Beef, pastrami and cheese sandwich, is the bomb. You will see all the city workers eating there during lunchtime. It's our go to deli for the past 27 years.

I tried the Pastrami from Farmer Boys and loved it, the meat had some crunch to it. When I tried it the next time, it wasn't the same. I think the first one was left on the broiler longer than usual.

Based on this video, we went to the Oinkster last night! Reuben blew the Oinkster sandwich out of the water. However…it definitely needs more kraut and dressing. Prices are a bit high here, but food was solid. Oh!! They make their own sauces including the ketchup lol!

There was Jake Levins in Milwaukee... It would have license plates from Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan there because it was worth the stop ( kid watching the different state plates.. big fun).. in a terrible part of town, no less... Over 30 years ago, a friend took me to a little diner right around La Tijera and Manchester. It had diner style seating and counter seating. We went in the back, so I never saw the name of the place. This place had the best pastrami sandwiches I had ever tasted. I was sad after each bite because it meant one less bite I would have to enjoy in the minutes to come. I have tried multiple times to find it, but the area has been gentrified, and it apparently us no longer there. Does anyone know if it still exists and just changed locations? Thx.
