Eddie Trunk's biggest problem is that he feels like he needs to be a part of everything, rather than just an enthusiastic observer. So everything is about how HE is involved in it somehow. He takes credit for so much, it's thoroughly obnoxious. It's the whole "He told meeee on myyyy show..."" thing
@whoami7721
@whoami7721 Жыл бұрын
Very true about how he seems to have a need to be a part of, or even take responsibility for, events in the last roughly fifteen of rock. In the Dio documentary, he says something that eluded to the notion that he got Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinnie Appice back together for the Heaven And Hell thing. He claims this happened through one phone call with a suggestion to Ronnie. He has even claimed responsibility for the Guns N' Roses reunion with a phone call to Slash. This stuff just seems farfetched. Some caller on Eddie's satellite radio show asked him once if he did play an instrument. He said he's a "frustrated drummer" and can't play guitar to save his life. I get it. I taught myself to play drums well enough for three-chord punk, but I'm no Neil Peart. I think Eddie's like a lot of us: he wants to be in the band, in front of that audience, soaking up the attention, and putting out the energy we all love from rock. Unfortunately, we all don't have the talent to make it. Eddie does say things that I think are exactly from a fan's perspective regarding reunions and tours with bands with one or even no original members, and whatnot. He's sounded off regarding Ozzy Osbourne's condition in recent years, so that part I respect and love hearing from.

Regardless of how one might feel about Trunk, I do agree with his ideas on how a 'live' show should be presented. It's great seeing your favorite band, but the reason they are a band is because they join together to play music. If I wanted to just here some great tracks and hang out then I'd call my friends over. No one should be duped into spending money to watch some band they like basically give a 'phone it in' performance. Let's get the actual performance part of it right. It's disrespectful to fans imo for a band to half-ass a gig and act like they don't care.
@kamikazekrush3758
@kamikazekrush3758 Жыл бұрын
The problem with your argument is being in a "band" isn't the same as the 70's or 80's, I'm old, progressive rock is my favorite genre, so clearly I like great playing, but things change, these young guys now are performers, entertainers, not just musicians, and I'm not talking about Santa Cruz, they should be playing live, but for artist like Ronnie Radke (Falling in Reverse) his thing isnt to show you how great his guitarist is or how incredible the drummer is, it's a entertainment show, it's like being in a club with a DJ, it's not my thing personally, but I totally understand bands using technology, he brings a lot of excitement to his shows as compared to many of the old bands I grew up with that now just stand in one spot on stage with singers struggling to hit any note correctly, so yeah a old style "band" should be playing, but things change, imagine Bach or Beethoven watching Rush or Dream Theater use keyboards for strings or choir's, would they slam them for "faking it" or would they say "this is incredible, I no longer need to hire a 100 singers and violinist to bring my music to life" ?

To be fair, Wolfie was talking about the passive aggressive argument's that were going on between the band members, Alex and Dave especially. I'm with Trunk. Live is live! Period! True musicians don't need lip syncing, laptops or backing tracks. Albums CDs downloads are obviously perfect they are done in a studio. Live always sounds different, raw, powerful. There are more bands that DO NOT USE laptops than do. THOUSANDS. DAILY. In the beginning all bands start by being musicians. Listen to the 60s 70s 80s and 90s before computers and all these bands sounded awesome. Bands nowadays aren't as talented as a whole. Wolfgang saying he doesn't talk negative, yes he does and has. As a Van Halen fan yes you are his son but you we're not around and took no part in VAN Halen becoming great. Truth factual. Very talented! YES! AMAZINGLY TALENTED. Eddie was the last true greatest worshiped guitarist. It was and STILL IS criminal something wasn't done to honor him. NOT you or anyone else in that band. Eddie deserved that world recognition that world thank you the closing of the book send-off moment. The final last sentence in the book. Thank you Eddie Van Halen. Not David Lee not Sammy NOT Wolfgang. EDDIE! Like it or not Wolfgang you were born into greatness. Dad made you a spot by getting rid of Michael. Michael would of never quite period. Michael would have played every show every year. Yes again you are talented enough to play and it was your dad's band And your dad loved playing with you I get it. Gary Chrone was a bigger part of Van Halen.

Yeah, I don't think Trunk was throwing shade at Wolfgang Van Halen but he probably took it that way because he's frustrated, and understandably so. Except he does it for rock musicians. He's got no talent other than being insufferable in what he THINKS he's become, because he only talks about the accomplishments and skills of others. Somehow, in his little head, that makes him as skilled and talented as the people he has the opportunity to interview. He seems to have forgotten that he's NOT A ROCK STAR, AND NEVER WILL BE. If he'd stuck to being the humble correspondent, maybe he'd be worthy of respect. Eddie needs to get over himself, he's not the Rock and Roll Jedi he seems to think that he is.

The whole point of seeing someone live is to not hear the music sound exactly like the record.. The mistakes are the best part.

I'd love to see a band try lip synching at a local biker bar. Remember the line from the movie, American Graffiti? Tie him to the car and drag him. 🤙🎼🤙

I can’t tell if he genuinely likes rock music, or if he just wants to make money and actually doesn’t really like music at all. He seems to not really have any respect for the musicians.

Eddie's correct about Eddie Van Halen should have had a tribute show by now. I am a musician and that Santa Cruz clip was sad. He was singing to the same recorded vocal and there were two other vocals under his voice. A harmony vocal and a effect creating an octave lower vocal. I get trying to thicken the sound but that's a bit much.

Eddie Trunk has a genuine take on the music.... though I don't agree with all of his takes, he's usually on the right tack. sounds like the guy running this channel has some kind of beef.

I agree with Eddie on the Van Halen issue. Wolfgang is not a big fan of hard rock music. He likes Woke-Alternative music. That's fine with me, but it is what it is.

There's nothing wrong with using additional tracks to enrich the sound. Countless singers have sung with a second lead singer off stage to add layers to the vocals. However the main music and vocal tracks should be them live.
@davetheimpaler204
@davetheimpaler204 Жыл бұрын
Then have a live backup singer. Playing a backing track for your vocals feels cheap. And if you have to cancel a show because you don't have your backing tracks, you shouldn't even be playing live at all. The only thing backing tracks should be used for is sound effects, which you can do without if need be.
@rticle15
@rticle15 Жыл бұрын
@@davetheimpaler204 ive said that for years. The dozens of bands who use backing singers should bring them on stage and give them a little spotlight.
