I had a Rockford 10 farad for 8 years. Unfortunately, I left it in, when I sold vehicle. Bought this very recently for my new vehicle install. When, I was looking at it, I noticed something loose and moving around inside. So, I opened it up. Noticed that one of the nuts holding down the positive outputs was in there. I am going to try it out any ways. I'm hoping for it to at least put out, say 1 fifth the rating. So, 10 farad. I just hope, it doesn't burst into flames. We will see. I am documenting my installation of it. So if it does have some weird issues, I will have proof of installation process. Fingers crossed

Did the 50-farad Capacitor stabilize your voltage with 3 amps? I have 2 amps 5,500 watts max altogether and was looking at this 50-farad capacitor to keep my voltage from jumping up and down when the bass hits. I have 2 batteries and the big 3 upgrade and a 300 high output alt. Did the 50-farad capacitor do the job for you?
@gphilpot15 жыл бұрын
I haven't completed the install so I don't know yet. I will circle back when I do. By the sounds of you you have already done, not sure this Capacitor will do much more. You shouldn't see any drops with everything you have done.
@brysterling76375 жыл бұрын
@@gphilpot1 Thanks, I was wanting my voltage to maintain but its dropping to 12.9 when the base hits hard then back up to 14.2 on my voltage meter, is that normal? What is the actual drop in the voltage that I should see?
@gphilpot15 жыл бұрын
@@brysterling7637 at 12.9 you should be good. Many people add a stiffening Capacitor in addition to what you already did to act as a buffer. What matters most is how quick your system recovers from the drop. Do keep in mind all this power demand we all do to our cars with loud stereos takes it's toll on batteries and alternators. I honestly think this Rockville is too small to do much. The caps inside the enclosure are a lot smaller than a Stinger 2 Farad. Unless Rockville has some wiz-bang circuitry that others don't.
@gphilpot15 жыл бұрын
@@brysterling7637 There is a thread on Sundown's FB with almost your same setup and same issue. They say newer cars control alternator charging abilities. They recommend bypassing the PCM. I have never done this and imagine you will need to look into this. Many are also saying the battery only kicks in with the voltage drops close to 12-12.5 volts. Copied post below: Newer vehicles are voltage controlled with pcm “to save” when the battery is charged fully the alt kicks off so it’s like constantly shutting off and turning back on that’s why people are saying you need a bypass you’ll have a battery light on dash usually from unplugging main plug but no other options really

How would you connect it with a crossover
@gphilpot14 жыл бұрын
One of the great things about this Capacitor are the power blocks that come on it. To add a Crossover, you simply run the positive and negative from the Crossover to the Capacitor. Crossovers work just like an amplifier. The RCAs (sound) don't run thru the Capacitor, only the power does. Thanks for watching.

Well thanks all for the laugh, I've had a great time. Well, you know why those 6 caps in the center are de-labeled? It's because THEY are the 50 Farads worth, the 2 metal cans that look like garbage bins either side are just that, garbage bins. They're there to give idiots something to point out when they tear open something they don't understand. Those 6 small caps will be 2.7v 300 Farad caps, combined creating a 50 Farad 16.2 Volt capacitor. It's great to see they don't even have a balancing circuit for each cap to ensure they charge to the same voltage, typical dodgy unsafe Rockville garbage. They are more than likely these cheap overrated Chinese SAMWHA caps or very similar coolcomponents.co.uk/products/electrolytic-super-capacitor-300f-2-7v
