Wow , I needed to lace up my running shoes to keep up with this update !!!!! so much going on in your green world , in the green house :) Everything is exploding , big and beautiful . The seed testing should be fun , with the different starter media. With an added steel backer plate , Doug could add his own , full time belt tensioner , working 24/7 ? Adapting an auto tensioner , one time , would extend the belt and bearing life , several fold. Your team work continues to be an inspiration for other under cover , market growers . Your family attention to detail , for nutritional results , community growth .... in a class of its own. Family love for your community , shows beautifully. :)

We initially used rockwool also but changed to oasis for the same reason, cheaper and much easier to handle when transplanting. Enjoy watching your videos.

I changed the belt to one of the Kevlar belts and it sound great. Might last longer too. We will have to see what happens with the rockwool. OK you too! D&K

no net cups. just put the cubes right into the NFT. The seedling are in the nursery around a week

Ive had really good luck with the marvel of four seasons lettuce and the merlot lettuce in my little kratky channels under the lights. For some reason it seems to do better under lights than the green lettuces. Might just be me tho lol

Great video! It looks like you place your mesh bottom tray in a humidity dome when seeding the Oasis and rockwool. Is there a reason for that? What is the benefit of that vs. placing the Oasis directly in a non-perforated bottom tray?

I've grown oak leaf in the past and really like it, but it wilts super fast! Do you have any tricks to get it to market without wilting?

We keep the cube on and as much of the roots as possible then packaged in plastic bags. Seems to hold up pretty good at the farmers market for us.

When I've harvested lettuce for home use(and I'm not sure this would work commercially) I soak in a bit of water and the through the salad spinner to get excess off then roll up in paper toweling then pop in a bag in the fridge. It holds up about a week for me. But I harvest outer leaves at home not whole heads. I do try to harvest early morning too.

@@HomegrownPassion Thanks. I leave the roots on too. The leaves are so thin they just lose their moisture too fast. Probably getting them into a fridge faster would help. ; -)

On the strawberry system, did you set up a return for the nutrients? How often and how long do you run the nutrients?

we do not have a return for nutrients. We get the timers set so we don't have any discharge. Our strawberry fert program is running nutrient's constantly when watered

How do you rub off your marker pen from your plant labels Katie? I put mine in a bottle of methylated spirits

we soak the label tabs in a mild solution of bleach. Seems to work great

Does the rock wool cubes fit in your channels? I have the same channels and found the rock wool cubes are too big for the channel openings.

They do but we have to squeeze them. The Ossais just fall in so that one disadvantage with Rockwool

Do you have any problems growing spinach? I’ve tried pelleted from Johnny’s. I’ve tried bloomsdale from Gurneys and have about 10% germination. I’ve tried oasis and rock wool cubes and it doesn’t seem to discriminate. I’ve tried germinating on a heat mat at 75°Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?

we don't get aphids. never had them. we have an insect inclusion on the greenhouse that includes air walls at the doors. We are careful before entering the greenhouse and make sure we have (hopefully) have not been contaminated without door insects

Ummmm i think she forgot to reveal the result of what the video was labled as! I noticed oasis was cheaper than metalic sheep sheerings. Which is what a robot counts when turned on sleep mode.

We have marigolds in the channels now. Going to do a video on them soon
