*Rocky* is one of the best films ever made, and it also teaches positive life lessons for younger people seeing the film for the first time. It's much, much more than a mere boxing movie; it's not really a "boxing movie" at all. Its focus is actually a study of human moral character and making the most of the opportunities that life presents to you, about working hard and giving it your all. If everybody were as kind, selfless, motivated, tolerant, respectful, and forgiving as Rocky Balboa, the world would be a better place. Rocky is not a highly educated person, but he has a good heart, and this shows in how he interacts with the people around him, even the people who constantly mistreat him. Despite his lack of formal education, he is a wise man and a true role model with a strong conscience. Watching the Rocky films was required viewing in my home growing up, because my father knew the morals taught in the films would help me later on in life. And they most certainly have.

Fun fact, apparently rocky catching the orange was unscripted, apparently the guy selling fruits just tossed it to him for free. I assume just cause he had a camera filming Rocky. This movie was also made on a small budget and a lot of the background people were just regular people walking around the city.

It was, because they didn't have the permission to shoot. In fact, Stallone got an ankle injured while running and they had to bring him to the hospital on a wheelbarrow, because they were not covered by the insurance for accidents on work. It's also the first movie which uses the steady-cam, on the stair scene.

I’m so glad you guys liked this movie. It was so much fun to see you laughing and cheering on Rocky. It’s true: everybody loves an underdog and Stallone wrote the script when he was dirt poor and trying to prove himself in Hollywood. The movie won Best Picture & Director , Stallone was nominated for best Actor & Writer. There would be 5 more Rocky movies over 30 years (each of varying quality) but they are worth watching. The finale Rocky movie has the best speech in the whole series, with a 60 year old Rocky comparing life to boxing and why you can never give up. In the end of ROCKY (1976) it doesn’t matter that he didn’t win. He went the distance. He overcame his fears, earned the respect of Mickey, the adoration of his community, and earned the love of Adriane. Love your channel. It’s a joy to see you discovering these classic films.

Americans actually root for the underdog. We love a story like this. Sylvester Stallone (Rocky) took the turtles home after the shoot, they were still alive in 2019, they were 44 years old then. He had no money before this and sold his dog for $500. When he hit the big time he bought the dog back for $25,000. You could smoke everywhere in the 70s. They had ashtrays in grocery stores. There was smoking in hospitals. $150,000 in 1977 would be $777,660 today.

The film is based in South Philly--an Italien neighborhood. The dinner was for a holiday--Thanksgiving. Pauly just disrespected her fully. For many of us in the States, Thanksgiving is a holiday of family, food and football. Clearly, Rocky has not had that for many years. The film came out at a time of economic hardship. This film reflects ordinary people who have been written off, they can redeem themselves when the opportunity presents itself. The movie spawned a franchise--but nothing was as pure an engaging as this one, IMO.

This is a love story, with boxing as the backdrop. And a one time real pro fight, it's based on. RIP to the great Carl Weathers, Apollo Creed! Some Rocky facts! Pauly was only 34-35 when he started rocky, so he was only like 5 years older than Stallone! when he started this series U really should watch any documentary on how this got made!! Broke, almost homeless, sold his dog...for real!😮The dog was his real dog!...wrote the script in 3 weeks. Was asked big money(back then) to sell it, but not star in it. He always said no. Finally sold it for 30k to ABC TV. He was good friends with and done a movie a few years prior, with Henry Winkler. He became THE STAR of😊 abc tv in the show Happy Days, as the Fonz. He heard Stallone sold the script to ABC. Henry goes to the ABC heads and says, u don't GIVE me that script, I leave the show....they gave it to him! Stallone never made a ton of money on the rockymovies. Only as a writer actor choreographer. He got ripped off by the first producer, who bought the rights and rocky name, and never sold it back to Stallone, though he's made billions! Based on a real tune up fight, for Ali. He was going to fight Frazier later in the year, for the title, but he wanted a tune-up fight. He fought against Chuck Wepner, a journeyman tomato can bleeder, who was good, but never top 10 ranked. And he damn near knocked Ali out!😮 The guy singing outside, is his real brother Frank!😮 The first guy he fights in this movie, Spider, shows up in Rocky Balboa or Creed! The teenage girl he talks to, also comes back in one of those movies! Adrian is the sister in godfather!😮😮😮😮 Gazzo, his boss, also in godfather 1-2! Stallone almost died in 4, because Drago, actually cracked his ribs, puntured a lung, punctured his heart sac! Drago in real life, has multiple masters PhD in engineering! The blonde wife of Drago, shows up in Creed 2 and so does Drago, and Stallone actually married that woman, and had beautiful daughters with her! Tommy Morrison in part 5 was a real boxer and could have been the greatest ever, but drugs and booze got him. In 3 Clubber got the role, by winning a Tough man contest! In 3 hulk Hogan, hit Stallone for real in the back of his shoulders with his forearm, and moved vertebrae. Dennis Quaid did a amateur tough guy boxing movie, kind of based on the Clubber Lang actor, that was very good, called Tough Enough! and busted his lip open! There was never going to be a 2, but this movie made so much money, win Oscars, etc., Stallone wrote a sequel! When he was accepting an Oscar for this movie on stage, Ali comes up, grabs him, fakes punches at him and says, "u stole this movie idea from me!" Paulie has done a couple other great movies, Rob the Mob, and Pope of Greenich Village! Adrian is part of the Coppola family.... Francis Ford, Nick Cage, Sophia Coppola... maybe her daughter! What 1 and 2 are really, the ultimate love story! U can go see the Rocky statue in Philly! The mistake of colors he's wearing, in the auditorium, was due to a mistake and money problems, so they kept it in, and had the dialogue reflect this! Watch all but u can skip 5, finish the Rocky series, then go to Creed! The Great fight ever... middleweight Ray...boom boom Mancini vs Duk ku Kim,... outdoors, Caesars palace. Outdoors. Went the distance. Slug fest. Kim died in the ring. He fought the last round with a busted blood vessel in his brain. Fights went to twelve after that. Cinderella Man is a great True story movie about a depression Era boxer!

That actor starting at 8:14 who plays the mobster loan shark Gazzo was played by the late great Joe Spinell (1936-1989) a famous New York City born character actor who acted in many films in Hollywood and in the Independent film industry. Spinell mostly played villian or antagonistic characters; thugs, crimminals, seedy gang leaders, dirty cops, racists, serial killers, etc. He was also a good friend of the star Sylvester Stallone during the early days of his acting career. Look up Joe Spinell either in IMDb (Internet Movie Database) or Wikipedia.

Charlie Chaplin and Sylvester Stallone were the only performers to have been nominated for "Best Actor" and "Best Original Screenplay" for the same film as of 1976/1977. That may have changed since that time, I'm not sure. This film isn't about boxing. It is about family, friendship and about believing in oneself and the support and love people can provide to each other. Both Rocky and Adrian follow similar paths in the film. Both of them have low self-confidence and feel trapped by fate. The love and support that provide for each other helps them both to blossom and grow. When Adrian is yelling at her brother, telling him that she is not a loser and that she provides value to him and does not owe him anything is her fight against an opponent that seems unbeatable at that time......just as is the case with Rocky fighting Apollo. In Rocky, neither of them win their fight HOWEVER, they do gain self-respect and self-confidence and accept that they are, at least, on an equal stage as their opponents (they "go the distance"). Paulie's character shows what Rocky could have become if he had allowed his current situation to define him. Both Rocky and Paulie come from the same streets and the same poverty and lack of opportunities. Paulie is a bitter person because life has beaten him down. He is not a bad human being, just very depressed and negative and he has given up. This could have been Rocky had Rocky and Adrian not found each other and provided each other the support that they needed. Paulie never found that support. The film is very deep and multi-faceted. It speaks about several topics. It is worth watching over and over. I watched it first in 1978, i think, and I've watched it every few years since that time. I still find new revelations ....find little details..... discover new interpersonal or social commentary that I didn't find previously. This film and Rocky II are pure genius screenplay writing.

Stallone wrote the script for this movie in about 20 hours. He wrote it after watching a fight much like this. Joe Wepner (Much like Rocky) was a tough, relative unknown who fought Mohamed Ali. This story is quintessentially Catholic in it's themes. Rocky fights and, by the World's standards, he loses, yet in losing by worldly standards he achieves a transcendent victory for himself and those he loves. His fight wasn't with Apollo, it was with the world which told him he was a stupid loser, that Adrian was a strange retard, that Paulie was nothing but a working class drunk, that Mick was a washed up has been; it was with their sins. By suffering Rocky redeems them all, and gives a glimpse of what they might become, by bearing the burden of their pain in the ring at the end. His cry of, "Adrian!" almost to distraction, before the final score is even read, is poignant, it's not the fight he cares about, it's his loved ones. He fought and suffered for them, despite their flaws. Most of the movie doesn't really focus on fighting in the boxing ring, it's about fighting with their circumstances and their demons. EDIT: First shot of the film is of an icon of Jesus offering The Eucharist (His Body and Blood), before jarringly and violently cutting to Rocky getting hit with a punch. That's not a coincidence.

Thanksgiving is a big holiday in the USA end of November. All the restaurants, grocery stores, shops, everything is closed. There wouldn’t be any restaurants open for Rocky and Adrian to go to, especially in the 70s. Her drunk, mean brother throwing the turkey out was horrible. It’s a big tradition, and takes hours to cook. He humiliated her. Alcoholics ruin the holidays. One of my business clients had to totally ignore all the Christmas (December 25th) decorations and celebrations because all her childhood memories were terrible - probably because of an alcoholic father (or mother or both). It kind of shocked me because it was my favorite time of the year and she couldn’t stand to think about it. The holidays are emotional triggers for a lot of people.

Yo Adrian! Stallone isn't given enough credit for his acting. I love quite a few of his movies, and he is versatile: comedy, action drama, etc. I highly recommend these two of his movies as well.... Oscar (1991) - in this movie he plays a mob boss that tries to put an end to his criminal ways and become a law abiding business man. It's a witty comedy with excellent writing, you'll never guess the ending. Demolition Man (1993) - action film, with Sandra Bullock. I really think you guys in particular would find this interesting as it is in a way a commentary on morals as well as how technology could be good or bad. It takes place in the future, but is almost like time travel since Stallone was "frozen" and then "thawed" out many years later after the world has changed in many ways. I love watching this movie with my brothers as this is also one of their favorite movies.

People were lucky if they had food on their table back then. You think a young Al Pacino looks like Sylvester Stallone? OK? Yeah, that's like $800K today. Although taxes on that kind of money were 70%. So, he'd only net about $300K. And yes, Pauli is jealous. My parents went to see this movie. They said, "Everyone under the age of 25 got up and started dancing in the aisle and cheering in the movie theater when the opening theme music started playing. My parents said, they never seen anything like it. After the movie was over, they understood. I think this is a good story line, but if you like boxing movies and haven't seen "Million Dollar Baby," By Clint Eastwood, i'd give it a go.

The story is supposed to be in south philly but they used Kensington because they couldn’t find a gritty enough area in south philly. You should google Kensington now it’s a mess.
