I don't usually make comments on the right order to watch franchises but if this is definitely one where you need to see the Rocky series first before watching Creed at all. At the least you have to see up to Rocky 4 before watching Creed 2. Trust me, you are going to wish you had. It's going to be some many things that will either go over your head or you won't fully appreciate.

He lost. They said it was a split decision and announced "Winner... and STILL heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed!" which is when Apollo put his arms up. The reason its not more focused on is because Rocky didn't care. He did what he wanted, he went the distance, and proved to himself he was somebody. The decision isn't focused on intentional, because it didn't matter to Rocky. All that was left was to get the girl, which he then did.

This is a great movie. You both seemed to think some of it was weird/awkward, but I think it's just a slightly different tone than you saw in Creed, and maybe that's why you weren't on the same wavelength going in to it. I notice you two keep saying this movie is like Creed. That's like someone telling you that you take after your child. Creed is good on it's own, but it fits into the franchise because the director (Ryan Coogler) grew up watching Rocky and promised Stallone that he would keep the same spirit as his project. Also, I think you said something like Creed got a shot because of his dad and Rocky got a shot because of HIS dad. Rocky Marciano was a famous boxer that Rocky admired and named himself after. He was not his father.

Rocky just wanted to prove to himself that he wasn't just another person of the heap, rather than winning or losing he needed to know that he had achieved something important in his life, that he wasn't just another loser in the block. That's what the movie is about. That's why this movie is very inspiring for a lot of athletes.

Something that's ALWAYS missed about Paulie is that he was in the Navy. You can see photos in his apartment. It's never made obvious but it's there. He's a broken man. He's served his country, tried to become something and then left in the dirt. He feels cheated. You'll realise in the sequels that Paulie is actually a pretty decent guy with a heart of gold when it comes to family. He's an ass. But he's a loveable one.

In1970s Philadelphia I think pissed off, stressed out, frustrated and pessimistic were normal, everyday feelings. The mid-late 70s in major urban areas was a struggle. I lived in NYC; it (the city) was bankrupt. Teacher layoffs, cop layoffs, fireman layoffs, closed subway stations, garbage strikes, urban decay, high unemployment rates, overburdened social services systems, high taxes, inflated food and gas prices, oil embargoes, Vietnam Veterans living on the streets. Factories closing leading to unemployment among blue collar workers (Philadelphia would have probably been hit very hard by this; it was a big manufacturing area). I guess people venting at each other was not unusual - - though Paulie appears to have had some other issues as well. He probably wanted to work on the docks because it paid better and also, unfortunately, that kind of work is recession-proof if the boss is satisfied with you.

Skid Row is in LA. I think it was a tent city during The Depression. It must have been very well known as 'skid row' became an expression indicating very rough or scant living circumstances. At Mickey's gym, skid row was probably what the people training there nicknamed the bench or the wall hooks - - a.k.a. the lockerless.
@trickykondo1021
@trickykondo1021 Жыл бұрын
33:05 The term "Skid row" comes from the Pacific Northwest, and originated in the logging industry. It's a reference to the path along which timber workers skidded logs. Over the years it evolved to encompass not just the logging roads, but the surrounding camps too; and eventually it came be used to denote an impoverished area of pretty much any kind (usually in an urban area).

Sylvester Stallone's journey to making the movie Rocky is a true underdog story, much like the film itself. In the early 1970s, Stallone was a struggling actor and writer, living in New York City, trying to make ends meet. At one point, he was so broke that he had to sell his dog for $50 just to pay his bills. In 1975, inspired by a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, Stallone decided to write a screenplay about an underdog boxer who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the heavyweight championship. He wrote the script for Rocky in just three days, pouring his heart and soul into the story. Stallone wanted to star in the film as the lead character, Rocky Balboa, but he faced many obstacles along the way. When he began shopping the script around Hollywood, producers were interested in the story, but they were not keen on having Stallone as the lead actor. They offered him a significant amount of money for the script, with the condition that he would not star in it. Despite his financial struggles, Stallone refused to sell the script unless he was guaranteed the lead role. His determination eventually paid off when producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff agreed to let him star in the film, but with a limited budget of around $1 million. This forced the production to be shot in a mere 28 days, with many scenes filmed in a single take due to the budget constraints. The movie was completed and released in 1976, becoming a massive success both critically and commercially. Rocky went on to win three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and launched Stallone's career as an actor, writer, and director. The film has since become a beloved classic, inspiring a successful franchise and solidifying Stallone's status as an icon in the entertainment industry. The story of Sylvester Stallone's struggle to make Rocky is a testament to perseverance, determination, and believing in oneself, mirroring the very themes present in the film itself.

Stallone went around to many studios trying to get someone to make the movie. A lot of the studios were interested in making the movie, but they wanted to cast a big name star to play the lead. Stallone, on the other hand, insisted that he plays the lead. This led every studio he approached to turn down the movie. He got so broke pushing the script that he had to sell his dog to make ends meet. Stallone finally found a studio that would accept his offer to make the script AND cast him as the lead, but it would be at a fraction of what Stallone wanted. Stallone accepted, and as soon as he got his check, he used that money to buy back the dog he sold. Stallone's dog is the same dog that is featured in the movie. Another interesting fact? The turtles featured in the later Rockys are the same turtle from Rocky 1.

My favorite part of the Rocky story was the time a studio made a deal with Stallone for the script and although he had remorse right after, they wouldn't give it back. @brianhayes2429 I hear ya and yep, it's super annoying, and I can't imagine why they decided to do that because it's the growth in Rocky and his getting out of that neighborhood that help soften his accent. They would know that if they started from the very beginning. It's just a weird thing to ask for me. Like I hear their Canadian accent sometimes. I've never been to Canada but understand that people in different areas have different accents. So I got a little annoyed because why would an Italian American write a movie about Italians in a poor neighborhood in Philadelphia and not be true to the accent? And the accent is not "dated" there are Italians on Housewives of New Jersey that talk like this today. Lol! I get what you're saying is still just a really odd thing to ask for me. People of different ethnicities ( black, white, Latino, asian, Italian) from different parts of the world and / or different states have different accents. Even in different parts of Canada, there are different accents, so I don't get their confusion. This is the only franchise that we follow the same characters for so long. We hey to watch the experience ALL the ups and downs of life and we grow to love them because of it. They can actually run this Creed franchise for just as long. The could follow Donnys daughter or go back to Rocky's grandson. Maybe they get married. Lol. The Rocky franchise has legs! I hope the power that be don't ruin it.

TLDR story behind Rocky: Stallone was broke af, had written the rocky script and pitched it many times but the financiers either didnt like it or wanted to cast someone else as Rocky. He was so broke and desperate that he had to pawn his dog (the dog in the movie). When the script finally got picked up and he got paid, one of the first things he did was go back and buy his dog back for a ridiculous sum of money. Stallone was really the real life rocky (without the boxing) lol. Really really hope yall continue with all the rocky movies before resuming creed. Makes it 100x better. As a combat sports fan, the boxing is a little hard to watch but the underdog story and the love story are what make this series legendary.

A night of firsts for both Apollo and Rocky, Apollo's first time being knocked down or going the distance and Rocky's first time getting his nose broken. Yes, Apollo came in not taking the fight seriously, but that knock down 30 seconds into the first round, woke him up really quick.

“It’s so 70s but they wouldn’t do that now” yeah they would! Lol the point was that Rocky’s whole life he’s a loser at fighting, at working his jobs, friends etc and at this championship fight. But he won Adrian overall. She’s the spark that inspires him. He brought her out of her shell and she brought him out of his self hatred and self loathing. They all live in a poverty crime ridden environment with no hope. Rocky’s fight inspires the entire city. - and the cinematography is designed to mimic the documentary style and the fight footage of that era. I think towards the end y’all didn’t pay so much attention to how it ended which is why it jarred you so much.

Regarding the end of the fight: Remember that earlier in the film Rocky said that 'no one had ever gone the distance with Creed before.' True Story: Rocky's dog, Butkus, was Stallone's actual dog. In fact, before Rocky was greenlit by the studio, Stallone was so poor that he sold Butkus in order to make rent. He quickly bought him back after he made some money.

Liked your reaction as always! 😊 I know you did Creed (I) before this as I also watched your video of that. Apparently, you mentioned here that you'll watch Creed II next. I hope you won't do that, but instead go through ALL the Rocky movies first, then rewatch Creed I (you'll have a different experience rewatching it after ALL the Rockys, believe me), before finally watching Creed II. All the Rocky to Creed II films are interrelated. It will be hard for anyone to understand and FULLY appreciate the Creeds if you'll skip. Besides, Rocky II is a direct continuation of Rocky. Rocky III paved the way for the special relationship of Rocky to the Creeds. Rocky IV, we can say, is a prequel to Creed II. Rocky V and Rocky Balboa would explain why Rocky is where he's at in the Creeds. Phew! Tried writing those without giving out too much cause I don't want to spoil anything for you haha! I really hope you consider my advice. Keep punching! 🥊🥊😊😊

It’s the perfect ending. Lost a split decision. Apollo got two judges and Rocky got one judge. He only wanted to prove he wasn’t a bum by going the distance.

If you watch the other Rockys (and you should - Rocky 2 is like if this movie had been given a 7 million dollar budget and had a proper production team behind it) you'll realize that Rocky is not really a big fan of defense. He doesn't block or dodge. He is known for taking a beating, which makes his opponent overconfident, but then he just doesn't go down and his opponent is exhausted and confused as to how this man is still standing. This isn't like a spoiler or anything, it's just his style of boxing.

I’m glad I came to the comments before I got deep into this reaction, don’t think I’ll be watching the rest of this reaction. You guys have some good reactions to other movies, but I think I may pass on this movie series as much as I love the Rocky franchise. I think you should have started with Rocky 1-6 before going to the Creeds. I also agree with the majority of comments from everyone else

52:00 What similarities? You haven't understand Rocky Adonis works in an office and has just been promoted and Rocky is a man that everyone can identify with, an average citizen who is on the losing side of life who is not doing well financially and who has to beat people up so that he can get money this is a real story. how likely is it that there is a disturbance in the house and then you knock on the door and the door is opened by a beautiful young woman who happens to produce music even though she is going deaf?? do you really think that is how relationships develop? relationships develop like with Rocky and Adrian, that Rocky flirts with the woman all the time and the woman wants to be conquered and it is still the same today as it was in the 70s and 100 years ago and 500 years ago

49:58 All these people who are now between 20 and 40 years old and cry all the time " I didn't even notice what the result was,.... who won now?" maybe you should just listen better? They says quite clearly who won, my goodness. And before the fight Rocky says his goal is going the distance. ( going the distance is one of the iconic music songs from Rocky) And yes, that was the 70s, but much better films were written then than in Hollywood today, it would be nice if Hollywood had such original stories again like back then and not all this reboot and sequel and badly written scripts and LGBT has to be everywhere

@@Vadermaul400 Well, like me you’ve probably followed boxing and Marciano is definitely going to come up over time. I had a body surfing accident in Southern California that ended my boxing career before my first scheduled pro fight. I’ve actually got a picture of Stallone with mine coach/manager. I still teach self-defense and boxing is still a big part of it.

Fun fact: this film was so low budget that the printer messed up the color of Rocky’s boxing trunks on the banner for his fight with Creed and they couldn’t afford to have it changed so they added that scene where he mentions it and the guy responds with ‘is it really gonna matter’ or something to that effect
