One thing I like about Rocky V is that they made Rocky weaker, instead of adding an even stronger opponent. It wouldn't make sense to have an opponent that is stronger than Ivan Drago. So dragging him down to a lower level is brilliant. Same thing in Rocky VI/Rocky Balboa. He's old now and can't keep up with the new guys, but still gives it his all.

bottom line is he fought in an alley people were expecting unboxing match nothing this guy mentioned would have made this piece of crap movie good or even that much more watchable. I watched a few pieces of the director's cut and to be perfectly honest with you I think it makes the movie kind of worse and some aspects and kind of better than others but the bottom line is rocking needed to be in the ring. people were expecting a boxing match instead they got this

Imagine if Gunn destroys drago for the world title after drago loses the eye of the tiger after his loss to Rocky. Then we would respect Gunn as a monster Mike Tyson type. Especially if mike Tyson was Tommy Gunn. I do like Tommy Morrison’s performance but getting Mike Tyson would be insane and gives a real life feel with his relationship with George Washington duke.

Rocky V has by far the best acting of the five films in my opinion. I think a lot of people didn’t like it because it reverted back to the old formula of the first two movies where it wasn’t really about the fight, it was more about the characters. The film was highly character driven and the dialogue scenes were the true “fight scenes” throughout.

Started watching the rocky films for the first time and I really don’t get the hate 5 gets. I felt it brought back the franchise down to it’s roots from the first two films. Plus it really showed what makes rocky such a great person and fighter as he could have easily have ended up like tommy if he cast aside and gave up on mickey and Adrian. I enjoy 5 more than 3 and 4 honestly.

I started screaming when he started jumping on Paulie lol. I always like Rocky V, came out when I was 10. I've been raising my son by myself since he was 8 months old. He is now 7 and I remember he wanted to see the Rocky statue at the Philadelphia Art Museum because he loves all 7 films. When we sat at the top of the Rocky steps that song by Elton John "Measure of a Man" played in my head as we just looked at the Philadelphia skyline. The movie and song is just symbolic to me and my relationship with my son and how the movie reflected Rocky's relationship to his son and how at the end you see them in the same spot bonding again with each other. Sly really showed us more then a boxing film with these epic movies.

Sure, it is "more than boxing". Had it not been more than that, it couldn't have had this huge fan base for decades. Not that huge number of people are into boxing. There are so many other boxing movies, none this popular. Rocky saga is about determination, perseverance, fortitude, forbearance, morality. Now I'm even skipping fight scenes after watching them many times, but never get tired to watch the rest.

Rocky V is my third favourite in the franchise, I like the plot being about how brain damaged Rocky is that he has to quit boxing and how he trains another boxer but neglects his son in the process. I think it had a great end to the franchise. So what he doesn't win the title and his fortune back, he had his family, his respect and his health and that made him a winner in his own right.

I do not hate Rocky V.......I actually LOVE it. It tosses out the formula and manages to get Rocky back to his roots. Introduces the brain damage....a thing forgotten in subsequent films. To me, the worst of the Rocky films was #4....which was a music video instead of a film. It really copied the formula set forth in #3 (characters dies, Rocky faces his foe for redemption). Rocky V had real heart.

Firstly, I'm just a Rocky fan, and grew up with the saga, so I kinda really love em all. If I had to choose my least favorite, I guess V would be it. But, I just watched the workprint of the final fight from Rocky V, and if it's any indication of the rest of it, then you're absolutely right. The scene with Mickey up by the train railing was epic, and I'm glad you didn't spoil it for the rest of us, because 35 years after Clubber killed Mickey (yes) it was awesome to have one final inspirational message from him. I definitely plan on watching the entire workprint, and I'm glad I stumbled upon your breakdown. Oh by the way, your Tommy Gunn impression is flawless. LOL

@@MATTDALOR1AN Well please, let me know when you do! ... And by the way, with the way you brought up how George Washington Duke's speech was, and how he made you wanna fight, and the way you impersonated it so well (and yet, so funny), I'm surprised at how you did not do the same thing with how he convinced Tommy to fight Rocky... that speech made me wanna fight Rocky!!!

I think the only gripe I have with Rocky 5 is that after we saw Rocky go from poor to successful, he still loses everything afterwards... Rocky was an inspirational movie to show that you can achieve greatness, but I feel that Rocky 5 kind of throws that all away. It just sucks seeing him go broke after he overcame so much adversity, which the other movies inspired. Yeah, Rocky will always have a challenge to face, but I think going broke and moving back to the slums was a bit overboard. Maybe it'd be better if he was still forced to quit fighting and feels sad about not having a purpose, despite having lots of money and fame. Rocky meets and trains Tommy and feels alive again, but ignores his son. Tommy enjoys his new lifestyle, and maybe Rocky even gets him a title shot, but he's still seen as "Rocky's Puppet". Duke comes along and tempts Tommy (with even more money than Rocky) into fighting Rocky to "get out of Rocky's shadow". Tommy gets greedy and agrees, then they fight like they did in the final cut and Rocky makes amends with his family. The workprint has some really good stuff in there! It'd definitely make the movie better, but for what it was, Rocky 5 did still have some good things about it. The Mickey flashback was one of the best scenes that hits the feels. Duke was a great villain and I still crack up at "Goddamn... Only in America...". Tommy Gunn was a good character too. Its definitely not the best movie in the series, but I'd watch it if it comes on TV or something. Awesome video, Matthew!

Very Well Said the movie is real & Tommy Gunn = Tommy Morrison R.I.P to his soul does very good acting in it as a heel turn in some ways but the movie shows Honesty as the World is a cold bitter place as celebs actors and sports people have had financial problems later on in their well most ( lets hope that doesnt happen to any one else ) lives but shows what can happen in a real manner in a real perspective, the movie is a master piece while rocky balboa 2006 did not have a reason this did, the movie flows from IV but it is a bummer that rocky loses his money i too can say That I felt it too but the movie just gels from iv in a realistic manner so its true and has meaning and rocky balboa just starts from no where i dont hate it okay in some ways i do but i dont approve of it neither the only best scene in it well two scenes are are the computer similation and him runnining in the snow thats ultra cool and thats about it okay i wont mention that miss placed movie now but v is a wonder full movie that makes rocky gain all his wealth again and a big knock down can not knock down the spirit of a huge character yeah v gives you a motive to watch it it really makes sense and is a super cool movie, v is under estimated it is a true gem and piece of art that really deserves its position amongst awesome fine movies

I thought a bit of the opposite. Rocky comes home from Russia, retires knowing he dodged his last bullet health-wise. No money problems, all good. But it's the family that drifted away from him a bit. Adrian has become much more her own person, maybe has a nice clothing line venture using her last name, wanting to make money so Rocky never feels pressured to fight again, maybe even enjoying the limelight a bit. Yes, even Adrian can get lured by temptation just like everyone else. Hell a a twist though. Robert is now an academic wiz kid who just cant connect with the former athlete Father. Paulie will always be Paulie. Rocky now spends his time looking at old fight films, just like Apollo did, lost in his past. So Rocky ends up going back to Mighty Mick's Gym and starts running it because it's the only place he feels at home, and alive. Enter Tommy. And now it's up to the family to come back to him. Just hindsight food for thought.

Thank you. And I have to say where Stallone really went bad in his writing on R-5 was when not only was he told he could not fight anymore, but he was no longer a viable commodity for endorsements because he was a loan-shark collector in his youth. REALLY ??? Remember the opening montage for R-3? Everything from Delorean, Rolex, American Express, and Rocky crunch-punch bars he was the face of. Even had his own pinball machine (minus the one Paulie destroyed). And now, after winning the greatest sporting event in history for the United States (and for free by the way, at least the '80 Hockey Team got an actual gold medal), the United States tells Rocky "screw you creepo"? Hell, if I was Rocky, I would not have moved back to his old neighborhood, I would have gone back to the Soviet Union. Because as it turned out, THEY were the ones who applauded and appreciated him. Sorry, the total tossing him to the corner to oblivion was NOT realistic in any way shape or form.

14:33 Rocky ignoring his son reminded me about how Mick looked through Rocky for the most part of the first film. Mick wanted to train young, determined, tough and "hungry" athletes and to him Rocky didn't fit the criteria; Rocky unintentionally behaves the same way in this movie. The scene is handled much better in the work print version of the film.

Rocky V, is a very awesome movie, & has a very powerful meaning, which Family is 1st, & is EVERYTHING. Rocky understood about how much Family is so important after Adrian is pleading, & telling Rocky in the streets, ( Adrian saying to Rocky ) Your loosing US. My dad, never had a relationship with me, & was always busy with everyone else, & I always had to fight to get time with my dad no matter who was around, so I relate with the movie with Rocky V very well. Its a real film about getting Family back together, & not just about fighting. The scenes with Sage, & Sylvester Stallone was a real purpose through out the film being Father & Son being Home Team Together. Mickey was like a father figure to Rocky from Rocky 1,2,3, when Mickey dies in Rocky 3, it tore Rocky Up, & Always has, the loss of Mickey, effected Rocky, from Rocky 3 to Creed. I Say Again Rocky V is All About Returning to you Roots, & what matters most is N Life Family. Adrian, Robert, Mickey, & even Apollo was Rocky's inner Circle. Rocky's Family. Rocky's flashbacks of Mickey in Rocky V was a clear way of showing how Mickey was a Father figure to Rocky, & it was not just about fighting in the ring, but also living in Real Life outside of the Ring to. Mickey Loved Rocky, Mickey clearly says that in Rocky V when Rocky see's, himself, & Mickey in a flash back in ring together in Mighty Mick's Old Gym. Later in Rocky V, Rocky having been knocked down in the street in front of Mighty Mick's Gym, Rocky is looking up, & then see's a vision of Mickey at the top of the city train rail tracks, & Mickey Tells Rocky I did not hear no bell, then Mickey says to Rocky while Rocky is laying down in the street by Mighty Micks Gym, Mickey says to Rocky Get Up, there's 1 more round, & Mickey tell Rocky Get Up You S*n of B*tch Because Mickey Love's You. Rocky gets up after being yet inspired by Mickey no twice in Rocky V, then finishes off Tommy Gunn. Rocky V, is a very emotional Movie, & being able to relate to that kind of movie, in your Real Life living, then you will be able to grasp Rocky V with Real Understanding, & what Rocky V is Really is All About. ( Family, Family, Family, ). I give Rocky V an 8.5 out of a 10. I have it on VHS Tape, The DVD Versions, The Blu ray Versions, & its worth every penny. ( Yo Rocky It's All About Family. ) Everyone Listen the song called The Measure of A Man By (Elton John ). That songs really tells everything about Rocky V. Rocky V Rocks N All Aspects of being a Awesome Movie with true meaning.
