Nice looking project. Thanks for sharing. There's a tool which makes cleanup of PVC burs quick and easy. It's called a machienist's de-burring tool. They're made (I think) by Vanco. When I got mine they were about $10.00. The de-burring cutter bit is changeable and just one will last a LONG time used only on PVC.

The track is part of the kayak. Most kayaks already have tracks on them. If you don’t have a track you can go online and they sell them.

Where did you get that pressure cap? I can’t find one with flat on both sides. Standard clean out fitting has protruding square nut on side i want to lay flat on track/kayak.

Thanks for watching. I got all the parts in the plumbing department at Lowe’s. I could not find it either but I took a picture of it from online and showed it to a store representative and they showed me where it was. I could not find one at Home Depot. But you could also look there Or online. PS the parts are more than $12 now due to the rising cost of PVC

What keeps it from unscrewing on a bigger fish? The pressure cap needs to be glued, doesn’t it?

No watch the video closer the pressure cap screws to the base of the rod holder then I have a pin that holds that in.

Seems ok for small fish. But you hook into a good size stripper or a big catfish and I see the end folding over at the thin spot in the holder

I fabricated used these rod holders last season for big catfish. Some thoughts after a season of use: 1. Use High strength PVC cement/adhesive at each junction with the exception of the threaded base 2. At each cement junction, use a small screw. Adhesive junctions are strong, but do not resist shear. Combine a mechanical connection and the overall strength jumps dramatically. A 1/2" wood screw or sheet metal screw is fine and only one is needed, even on the threaded connections. 3. The cost of PVC has gone through the roof. Sadly, these fun to make and prideful rod holders are now much more expensive to make than the cheapo Wal-Mart rod holders that are better constructed with better plastic. 4. For real strength, you need Glass Filled Nylon plastic. PVC is not a strong plastic, but if you are not hanging the bottom or hooking big cats using 7 foot poles, then these are fine. Remember, longer the pole, the more torque these holders will experience (Torque = Force x distance). I had a 30 lb blue cats crack each joint on one of mine. You have to have a high amount of drag to properly hook set a catfish while drifting/dragging. Thankfully I was next to the rod holder when it started to fail. 5. PVC is NOT protected against UV (Sunlight), so the paint is a necessity. I really liked this project, so I am not slamming them at all. I have 5 of them on my pontoon boat, mounted using 2 flat plates of scrap steel and 2 bolts (one through the holder base) to clamp them to the rail. However, I had to upgrade to Nylon holders to handle the big fish and now use these most as rod storage only. These work great for a kayak on small to medium sized fish. My observations are solely my fault as I tried to use them as trolling/drifting/dragging rod holders for big fish.

For the standard part there is no gluing as I showed in the video. But if you want to add the rod keeper part then you would glue it.

Yes you’re absolutely right. It is green bowl you can buy at the hobby store. And I used spray adhesive to stick it on.
