This is just another reason why Winger is perhaps the most underrated group of musicians ever.

The backing track is called Odd Man Out. It's in 5/4, & it's from the first Rudess - Morgenstein album.

The level of tenured, well schooled musicianship of the cats in Winger makes Metallica look/sound like a neanderthal 1-4-5 drunken party band.

Wow! I hear a lot of Neil Peart in that solo. Hell of a drummer!

@Atedaze8 "Who's The One" is a great tune. For me, music is not a contest. I like groups, each for completely different reasons, despite the common drummer (he's on my short list of all-time favorite drummers). Remember seeing "Odyssey" live when 'What If' came out ('78). Awesome experience leaning on the stage (we're talking a bar that held a couple hundred), about 5 ft from Andy's Steinberger & about 2 ft from a monitor. Think my ears are still ringing today from it! LOL

Remember Metallica used to show pictures of "Winger" on stage and mock the pictures. I don't want to turn this into a competition but Lars Ulrich on steroids couldn't attempt anything close to this.

+Tess Wolfe As James so kindly put it, "My voice is really F##ked up right now, ok, buddy, pal. I wouldn't ask you to do a drum roll if your arm fell off"...!!! Best line ever. Het.

Not to mention the fact that he got it wrong. This isn't Dregs stuff, it's from Rudess/Morgenstein Project. The section where he's playing over Jordan's ostinato is some hot stuff, 5:00-5:10 is fucking sick!

Keep the solo. When the music comes in at 3:38 that is when it highlights Rod's brilliance. Ain't a lot of rock drummers can do that shit.

It's from a thing he did with Rudess.

@Insectamongus Rod is my candidate too!!! IMO he is a better drummer than Portnoy, but Mike's structures are not easy to memorize.

I think Mikes stuff is very easy to memorize and is very predictable tbh

Great drummer.......at :58 he's copying what Neil Peart does with he crossover between the snare and floor tom. Never seen anyone else do that. (no where as good though IMO).

To bad he plays for Wanger, I liked some of their songs, but NOT a fan. Him and Reb should have went solo together, that would have kicked arse. As much as I like Portnoy, Mangini(somewhat) Neil Peart etc. They have nothing on him, sorry. They are way to flashy, his control, rudiments, and overall groove/flow and skill are just amazing. The first solo I ever heard was actually when I was about 18 on Like a Ritual (the song) at the very end. I was like damn!! ha
