I love this guy. I think he's one of the best teachers out there of all the well-known drummers.

This VIDEO IS AWESOME.... NOT ONLY is Rod Morgenstein a GREAT DRUMMER.. his explanations and demonstrations of the notation is FLAWLESS.... I am psyched i landed on this CLIP.

This is the dude I have to thank for improving my technique for the double bass which goes way back to 1984's "The Introduction" by the Steve Morse Band. Track 1 "Cruise Missile" is what did it for me! Thanks Rodster!

I was really into the stuff he did with Winger. You could tell he was, the engine in the band. Very tasteful drumming with lots of passion.

I met Rod in 1977 , playing with the dregs , the whole band came to my house to party after a gig in Jacksonville Alabama, My Brothers Bar , real nice guy .

Very nice perspective, and very nice video. As an 'old' drummer, I have long since lost my chops and this really explains a lot, clearly and precisely to remind my self. I was never a die hard Morgenstein fan, but he is a great drummer and a even better teacher form the looks of it. I will view the rest of these video's. Nice work.

Damn I remember seeing this guy in black and white picture on a VHS tape like 40 years ago. Good for him. I hope I can be around that long.

Great simple ideas; not meaning easy. The variations are endless; thanks Rod for sharing!

As someone who spent a good 6 years of my life working with stuff out of the Morgenstein book... I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see the master do those damn split tom/snare flams and how uncomfortable it looks for even him to play. haha

Did it for me as well yocuzz100. That and "Hot For Teacher" and many Billy Cobham tunes got me playing double bass and making them groove and cruise...

@GPz84 i agreed this guy is like the scientist of drums, he can create and do anything on the drum set that just makes you go ok my mind together with my limbs cannot do that combination.

I don't think so my friend. It's his pant brushed against the leather stool. You can hear it again at 3:52.

I'm not so sure about that because I was giving a lesson once and the student asked "did you just fart"? (teen-agers; ya gotta love em). And I didn't. I had shifted in the seat and the seat squeeked which is what I think happned here but can't be sure. I only know in my own experience it wasn't me so if I eve run into Mergenstien I will ask him :)

flams and para dids become less pronounced as speed increases -that's physics for ya.
@LynzuAnderson7 жыл бұрын
It's called practice. Laziness is not an excuse and physics don't determine the decibels out of each stroke. You can get those accents to be clear as day. Your ghost notes may sound abit like a buzz roll but it's certainly possible to get a great pataflafla or swiss army triplet at a fast bpm.

He's such an awesome drummer, but he did not show a lot of his technique on Winger, that would have been perfect

No wonder I quit. Too Much time chasing babes and not practicing my basics that I learned in grade school. I've met Rod and he's even nicer than he is a great drummer which seems impossible.
