I think I saw the same concert n 1967 when I was just sixteen years old at Wembley Stadium, North London, and it only cost five bob to get in. That's 5 shillings in old UK money or 25 pence now. And I even saw the Rolling Stones for that small amount. It was still a weeks wages on my paper round though, but what value. Golden memories.

What a great trio, Ronnie Lane, Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart[on bass never seen him play it before or after shows Rod knows a little more about music than singing] This is a classic!

I am very surprised that this has not been edited after so many years on here. It is NOT Rod Stewart and the Faces....it is THE FACES, from their 2nd album "Long Player". Plus Rod was not playing bass, he was pretending to. It was in the days before Rod became all show biz.

This was what Plonk feared all along; that a well known singer would a) take centre stage and they would end up a backing band & b) he would leave like Marriott did and they'd be in the shit again. Rod Stewart was well aware of this and would go on ahead to (particularly American) venues to ensure that the "Rod Stewart" prefix was removed from any marquee on the theatre. I know Plonk left due to frustration at not being able to sing more lead vocals and that Rod was missing for most of the "Ooh La La" sessions, simultaneously recording "Smiler"; which was unfortunate but ultimately proved his original view. He also believed that Rod was keeping back all his good material for his solo albums, which "True Blue", "You Wear It Well", "Italian Girls" & "Farewell" were probably cases in point. The Faces were not prolific songwriters, a lot of their and Stewart's albums were always padded out with terrific covers but non-original material nonetheless. This piqued Plonk endlessly, as they inevitably ended up playing these and Rod's solo material live; proving his "backing band" feeling. That said I miss these guys as they were my first and, remain, favourite band. No matter how long Woody plays with The Stones, he will still always be the Faces' guitarist; first and foremost.

I am old and dyslexic and since I owned this record when I was 15 and saw all credits... should have read: its because of the doink that sang the song. thank you for the correction and I will have to be careful about thinking in background while I write about something else. brain goes way faster than fingers and I do this all the time I think its call dysgraphia. as an adhd adult, it hard to slow my thinks down!!!! lol

@b017ni3 Both are playing Resonator style guitars. I've read that Ronnie Lane was partial to the brand Dobro, which are beautiful instruments, so if I were to guess I would say that's what he is playing here.

again I screwed the pooch- rod stewart did little contribution, but he was the one that got the contract obviously... I meant to say because of the lead singer as rod stewart did not sing this one either! lol keep playing the underrated slide guitar as it is beautiful.

Please dont yell at me tryin to covince me how cool todays bands are ie John Mayer, Gov't Mule or the Black Crowes etc. I have my own opinion too. To me none of todays bands come close to UK rock like Marriott!, the Who or the Small Faces & none of them had the subtle class of Ronnie Lane! He was a first class pro & by all accounts a man who suffered his pains in quiet great dignity I miss musicians (AND PRODUCERS & ENGINEERS WHO HAD EARS AND PAID ATTENTION! like that. Lane was pro!

I totally agree...as much a pain in the butt it is to grow older...at least in my day, we had such GREAT MUSIC! What bands now can compare to the Beatles, Stones, Who, Queen any of them...every time I see these new piece of crap new bands on the talk shows, etc...I just turn the channel. They have no original talent nowadays, it's all retread. Why would I spend my money to see them? When I can see the original stuff they are copying who are WAY BETTER!!!
