No actor can match Rod Taylor. He is the perfect balance of charm, strength, wit, and virility, not to mention incredibly handsome. So few film personalities have all these qualities. He is simply the best.

Mine too. 👍 One of my favorite quotes from the original 1960 movie is, “What have you done? Thousands of years of building and rebuilding, creating and recreating so you can let it crumble to dust. A million years of sensitive men dying for their dreams... For what?! So you can swim and dance and play.” - George, the Time Traveler Performed by Rod Taylor in his own inimitable voice and style.

Great interview with a fellow Aussie who I tried to interview for years. I had the privilege of having a job that took me around the world interviewing film stars, directors etc. and Rod Taylor was always in my top five to have a sit down with. When he was in Australia, I was on the other side of the world, and then, the other way around. I am so sorry I missed meeting him altogether, interview or not because everyone I met who had worked with him or had done an interview, told me what a great bloke he was. He was one of the first Aussie actors that encountered the fact that you couldn't get a job playing an Australian. In those days they'd actually bring English actors to Australia to play Aussie characters. Most of them just lazily, fell back on some kind of bizarre cockney speak. I could be wrong, but I think Rod was the first 'big Hollywood' actor who got to play a 'fair dinkum' Aussie character in an international film, something that even Errol Flynn or Michael Pate didn't get to do. I'm glad he said he had such a wonderful time in his career because I always thought he was not used to his best effect and when he was, he wasn't given the accolades or studio promotion that others received. Even though he mainly played action types; he truly had a wide acting range; able to cope well with comedy, high drama or lightweight entertainment. An incredibly talented man I never got to meet. Maybe we'll meet in the big studio in the sky... I'll look in the bar first! Cheers, BH

I can't imagine any other actor in the role of the 'Time Traveler' from the original film version of "The Time Machine!" The movie has become the quintessential sci-fi classic! George Pal, David Duncan, the creative artisans at Projects Unlimited and Russell Garcia have been immortalized as the collective, legendary talents that created the masterwork for MGM Studios! The Victorian Age design of the machine, itself, is considered by many fans to be the prototype for many incarnations through the years! The inspired beauty of the famous 'vehicle' has been captured in a growing number of miniature - and, for a very lucky few - full-scaled replicas that attest to its enduring popularity! The 1960 film is still one of the best science fiction films ever made!

Just heard the sad news this morning, he been up there with the my top favourite actors, in fact I only have two top two I can position and he's one of them, Peter Cushing the other. Everything I seen him in had a charisma about him. Great in the Time Machine and his role as Curry in Dark of the Sun stupendous the emotion near the end of the film he displayed had me on side so much it almost felt I was in the jeep chase with him. Also a shame they did not make more Boysie Oakes films. He did a short lived TV series called The Bearcats also good as was Nobody Who Runs Forever. I could go on naming things I enjoyed him in. Dark of the Sun is Martin Scorseae and Quentin Tarantino are two of the film's fans I seem to recall when they where shooting Inglorious Bastards(which was Rods last film) one evening Quentin screened Dark of the Sun for the crew, he also used the main theme of Dark in the film. Anyway the interview shows what a great guy Rod was. Thanks Rod one of the greats in my books. R.I.P.

Rod Taylor had everything, I don't think he did a bad film and every film he was in he put his own stamp on it. In some ways it's good he did not become top table as that would have effected his naturalness. The Time machine is in my top 3 favourite films, a masterpiece and if you have read the book, the mental scenes you cunger up when reading the book exactly match the film. H G Wells would have been proud. RIP Rod.

I've been a Rod Taylor fan since "Hong Kong" in 1960, although I was aware of him even before that in small roles in "Giant" and "Raintree County". It was only later that I realized I'd also seen him in two somewhat similar roles (with very different accents) as the young boyfriend in "The Catered Affair" and "Separate Tables". But of course "The Time Machine" and "The Birds" sealed the deal.
