My Mom is from Scotland. I was in my mid twenties when I realized he didn’t have a Scottish accent! I had been watching since I was around 6. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂 If that isn’t an endorsement for how believable Roddy was I don’t know what is!!!!

Piper did live near the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border for a bit, and Nova Scotia is Latin for New Scotland. So that's a bit Scottish I guess.

Loved the Ted Bovis reference, especially after noting how dated the Where's The Beef Lady was. Pail Shane's brother lived on my road growing up. He were a reit chuffin Flash Harry when he visited, always come in his Rolls Royce and revved the engine all way up road so people would look.

You should do a video of Mark when he had his first match at the Sportatorium in Dallas,Tx. I was a kid then and my family never missed going to WCCW in Dallas. He was called "Texas Red" in his debut ans had on a mask. Lol they threw him to the wolves literally because his first match was with Bruiser Brody. I sure miss those days. Back when the Sportatorium and WCCW were huge. And the Von Erichs were Dallas royalty. Not long after his first match Gentlemen Chris Adams started a wrestling school at the Sportatorium and my neighbor paid to join. I got to go sit in and watch and also did waterboy duties and what not. He had only one Wrestler that actually graduated and became Stunning Steve Austin. And back then my neighbor had to go pick up Iceman King Parsons and take him to the Sportatorium. Im pretty sure we took him to buy some Crack a few times lol. I remember having my head explode when I went there and met Abdulah the Butcher. He was a very sweet man and always had Butterscotch or Cinnamon Disc candy to give to me when he seen me. Another very nice man was Percival Pringle III. He later became Paul Bearer when Mark became the Undertaker. You could do a ton of videos on WCCW. Especially the Von Erichs vs. The Freebirds, Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, Steve Austin (who eventually married Chris Adams ex and it was used in a storyline in WCCW almost like Edge, Lita,And Mat Hardy love triangle).

I dug around on Cagematch and found that George Wells tagged with Bret Hart early in Bret's WWF career. When he turned heel and formed the Hart Foundation, their first matches seemed to be against George +1. Heard somewhere else that he had a bit of a blow problem, which may be why he didn't progress in the biz.

To answer how Jake Roberts became "The Snake", he took the nickname from Ken "Snake" Stabler, an NFL quarterback who was Roberts' favorite player. It went full circle in the late-1990's when NFL quarterback Jake Plummer earned the nickname "The Snake" as a nod to Jake Roberts.

Roddy Piper, straight up, would have beaten up Mr. T....if that was a real shoot. Piper was tough as nails. Missed opportunity at Mania 2 to have Savage vs Santana rematch as Savage had just won the IC Title a month or so earlier. Bret Hart vs Steamboat could have been an early Mania match remembered for years

Roddy Piper would’ve kicked Mr T’s ass as Piper had a golden gloves background in boxing and I think Mr T did have some training in boxing (and I’m not talking about training for Rocky 3) but Piper knew amateur wrestling as well and had more endurance too as Mr T would gas himself out leaving himself open for Piper to finish him off

I got to meet Jake the Snake Roberts Way Back I forget the exact year but it was early 2000s and he was wrestling in Junior High Gym along with some other big names like CM Punk before he got big and CM Punk actually asked me for a cigarette that was one thing another story for another time Jake The Snake was really nice except he touched me girlfriend's bum at the time I didn't find out till after the event but I got his autograph on a wrestling card that I had since I was a kid and a t-shirt like I said really nice guy but kind of off and he didn't even have his snake with him not going to lie I was kind of disappointed

Seriously! This is the man who had a Bill Clinton impersonator to sit in the crowd at WrestleMania X and had "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Shyster aka I.R.S. sit behind him and then did a segment where DiBiase goes "Everyone's got a price for The Million Dollar Man, right Mr. President" and IRS go...idk something ridiculously hamfisted like "Yeah! We like Clinton because he's corrupt like us! We're bad guys and President William Jefferson Clinton is one of us!" If Hulk Hogan hadn't gone to WCW at the time, they'd probably have fake Clinton go "I hate Hulk Hogan! He sucks! Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan is right!"

Roddy Piper not only made more movies than Hogan he made better movies than Hogan. When i watch Hell Comes To Frog Town, They Live or any of his other movies I’m into what I’m watching but put any Hogan movie on apart from Rocky III like say Suburban Commando and Hogan’s performance is worse than cringe.
@trinityj1
@trinityj1 11 ай бұрын
He's still the only wrestler to ever be the lead in a film that garners serious critical attention as legitimate art, one which has stood the test of time (They Live). And also the only one to do proper acting, imo. As fun as the Rock is, he's never given a genuine performance and I don't think he ever will. Batista is passable and that's the best than can be said. Hogan, of course, was hilariously bad even at the genre fluff built specifically around him and only gets away with Rocky III because he's just doing his wrestling shit.
@dildonius
@dildonius 10 ай бұрын
I love how all of Hogan's greatest enemies turned out to be shoot babyfaces and great people who did great stuff outside wrestling, while Hogan turned out to be a shoot heel and a genuine scumbag who made nothing but unwatchable crap outside wrestling.
@dildonius
@dildonius 10 ай бұрын
@@trinityj1He wasn't even properly Hulk Hogan yet when he did Rocky III. In fact him doing Rocky III is what caused Hulkamania to start off in the first place. Before Rocky he was some random midcard nobody in Vince McMahon Sr's WWWF. Doing Rocky caused him to be fired from WWWF so he went to Verne Gagne's AWA and they started a marketing campaign that....well....you know what happened. Eventually Vince McMahon Jr lured him back to the now WWF and made him WWF Champion his first day on the job in January 1984. About 1 year later WrestleMania I happens. Year after that is WrestleMania 2 and this video.

@youkoa5201
@youkoa5201 10 ай бұрын
It was his very first trainer who gave it to him. He had no ring name, but he had some pipe band friends play him in to his first real match and on the fly the trainer announced him as 'Roddy the Piper'. Which stuck and was shortened into his kayfabe surname. It just came about because he really did play the pipes and then he made playing part of his shtick. Until WWF, where they weirdly only used it as a bit on TNT (they showed in the video) in which Vince challenges him to play because the rumour is he's lying about being able to. Him being a heel, you'd think the point of this would be that the bluff would be called and he'd be humiliated- and they build it up like that's where it's going, but of course... he wasn't lying. Vince then says he's still not convinced. Bizarre segment.
