That’s the first time I’ve seen someone take apart this mic. I’m surprised that plosives come through so strong with that foam screen inside, but this video gave me an idea on how to improve it by putting a better foam screen inside. Thanks!

It could use another layer of fine mesh screen inside, or you could use a foam pop-filter on it (I do and it works great)

@@TimPhoenixTV agreed, I just hate covering up the amazing design. Lol

@@casualsenpaitv Same, please let me know if you found a solution/material to kill those plosives.

Thanks for the vid! Not sure anyone else has bothered doing a teardown of this mic, which is surprising considering how popular it is and how long it's been out. Might I ask the diameter of the actual diaphragm? rather curious about that.

Hey Kevin, thanks. I haven't actually measured it, maybe I will one day. But I doubt it's smaller than 1", probably 1.25" or so.

@@TimPhoenixTV Thanks! I'm a pure hobbyist as far as acoustics go so I could be well off but I've been trying to find a way to improve the mic's low-end response. Could manage speaking with the microphone right up against my mouth I suppose, but that picks up too much mouth noise, argh.

Hi Tim, where did you buy the security screwdriver? Can you please share the link for it?
@TimPhoenixTV2 жыл бұрын
Rode won’t share that info or tools. You’ll have to make it yourself. Cheers!

@@TimPhoenixTV actually you can use a 2 prong head. that comes with most ifixit toolkits. thats what i did for that 3 prong sec screw

How did you make the screwdriver?
@TimPhoenixTV2 жыл бұрын
The Screwdriver is pre-made.. regular Phillips or flathead..

@@TimPhoenixTVMine has 3 small holes and not a normal screw at all. Anyone know how to get this out?

Thank you so much! Now I see how shitty the "foam pop filter" is... It is a shame on an otherwise amazing mic. I have two and I guess I will have to replace it with better foam.

I'm going to try a few different things to make it better, just trial and error with different materials. Hopefully make it more similar to the sm7b. (without the low-end that mic has)
