Super interesting to see this! I wish it were a bit easier to take apart, but I'm impressed by how you knew exactly what was wrong. Glad you got the grounding issue sorted out!
@TimPhoenixTV3 жыл бұрын
Yup, It seems like it's one of their own security screw (they 're not revealing anything if you ask them) Brass is relatively soft, but it is firmly stuck in there. I have a background in live/recording audio, soldering and trouble shooting is part of the gig many times. Podmic would be better without the plastic part. Thanks for stopping by Tom! big fan

@@TimPhoenixTV nice to see you figured it out and that it was a relatively easy fix, but I for taking the screw off, I am pretty sure the thingi tool you tried to use would have worked if you would have combined it with pliers, then you would be able to apply more force on it.
@TimPhoenixTV Жыл бұрын
@@propm Sorry for the late reply, must have missed it. -I agree, just didn't have the right pliers for it. Thing is, there's no reason to use a screw like that. Shure uses common screws, and even guides you through the process of swapping out a capsule or whatever. Must be a warranty thing, but still.

Thanks, that is a very cool instructional method to take it apart! I looked everywhere for the driver but couldn't find the 3 pin in the triangular orientation. I was afraid to perform the surgery like you, as i wasn't certain it would allow me access to the inside of the metal protective screen. I wanted to open mine up to put a thin carbon filter pop filter inside so I wouldn't need a big foam wind screen for plosive control. I wonder if the driver was custom for Rode or if maybe they would send you a replacement screw.
@TimPhoenixTV3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And great idea to add some kind of pop filter inside, if it's thin and dense enough. An outer windshield adds distance to the capsule which is good but not as pleasing to the eye. -I think it's rode's own security screw so you'll have to make a driver or drill the screw. It was fairly tight on there I can assure. It's no big deal for me if it looks weird now after drilling it, just don't drill too deep or too close to the threads. Also mine was out of warranty so If I had had any issue with a newer one I would just use the warranty.

@HopperBeamNG it’s tiny, get a few different ones and try. Should be about an inch or so long, just thread it on to the screw so that it sticks good, and cut/bend to make it contact the plate down in the hole.

Fab video ,just a thought I used to work in a music shop workshop to save opening the mic maybe unscrew the xlr connection that goes in to it and try jumping a small wire from pin 1(screen /ground connection & its always longer so connection is made first) to the tab on it that connects to the body of the xlr continuing the screening(you would have to solder it but it could prove easier than drilling. Just a thought but fab video.
@TimPhoenixTV4 ай бұрын
@@ianroberts7119 that would work on most mics, easily.. but in this design its plastic and fiddly to run that jumper to the shell. But yeah, not impossible. Thanks for the input! Cheers

My podmic gave me a milk electric shock on touching the grill. I guess it was due to the grounding issue only. Even though it sounded fine, I had it returned. Didn't have the skill set to open it and fix it myself.

You probably hade the same issue. Some mics do this even thought there is nothing wrong with it. You could have other grounding issues in the apartment/house and other gear.

Sir i need help, it's ok if i turn on phantom power for rode podmic? Bcz my audio interface not have much gain for this mic.
@TimPhoenixTV2 жыл бұрын
The podmic is a dynamic mic, so it doesn't need phantom power. What you need in order to boost the signal is an " in-line mic booster", like the one I have (triton audio fethead) which boost the signal by about 20 db.
