Yeah definitely. You can connect it through the USB-C, or use an adapter to 3.5mm jack, plug it in your phone and it should recognize it as having an external microphone attached. Be aware that not all cables and adapters work, so check Rode's website to be sure the type of cables you'll need. But it can definitely be done:)

Is it possible to have two receivers with this set up…..on my motorcycle Ive got two GoPros ….one mic and two receivers ?? Thanks
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy ! So, let me understand, you're filming with the 2 Go Pros, and you'd like the same audio from 1 microphone to be inserted into both ? If, your idea is to talk while driving, I'd recommend you to get the Go Pro adapter for microphone, and plug the Rode receiver on one of them. The transmitter will stay clipped inside your helmet or anywhere hidden from the wind. Now, if you were worried about synchronization, you can have both on your hands, and clap really loud after starting recording. This will generate a spike in the audio and later in editing you can align these files really easily. Let me know if this was your idea and it helps, otherwise we can come up with another solution :D

I got the Rode II and the audio is MUCH WORSE than Rode I. Any tips anyone? I never did anything to Rode I - it just worked perfect out of the box. Rode II has noise - hissing noise, that I just cannot get rid of, even when i turn off gain all the way down. Eventually you need to increase the volume from software, and then you hear the hissing noise.
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi dear! It definitely shouldn't be like this, I can imagine only that you've got one malfunctioning. Maybe it's only the cable, if you got another I'd try it. Also testing the two TX separately. But probably it's a malfunctioning unit..
@ifishcatfish3 жыл бұрын
well I have Rode I ... so on same camera, same cables.. just swapping the microphones and I get hissing..
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Ah you didn't use the cable that came with the Rode II right? Ok, so not a cable problem. What about the TX? Both have hiss? And if you get the internal recording on them, do they have the hiss also? If they don't the problem is in the transmission or the RX. I still think the problem will be that it's malfunctioning, but this will just help you be sure of what's going on and explain the seller.
@ifishcatfish3 жыл бұрын
i have not taken the internal recording... thats a lot of work.. I use original Rode cable, but that doesn't matter, because whatever cable I am using is the same on both cameras. I submit a report to Rode - hopefully they figure something. Otherwise it is still in warranty. But thats a hassle. I was hoping there is some setting that I can turn off : )
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hope they figure it out! But anyways, to get the internal recording you only have to connect the TX with the USB-C cable to your computer. Having Rode Central installed, it will pop up immediately and you can hear the recording. I'd say it's worth a try... Let me know later if it was solved, maybe it's some issue that can be interesting to share with others watching the video :) Thanks dear!

@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kukunamunju! Well, until 1:50 I give an overview of what this microphone is and the differences between I and II, at 1:22 I show you why would you need a mic like this instead of a shotgun mic, at 2:30 you can see the benefit you'll get from buying the II since the drop in audio is significant when you have only one transmitter, from 3:15 I talk only about the safety features on II, at 3:54 until 5:15 I show you that depending on your use I might be enough because the performance of I is already great then from 5:15 to the end it's pure comparison about different topics. Grazie
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Ciao Matteo! :D
@cervellimatteo3 жыл бұрын
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
@cervellimatteo3 жыл бұрын

Hi !! On the II you can choose if it will be mono or merged or split and stereo, on the I you'll get mono! And yes, both can be connected to a recorder !

Has anyone been able to figure out how to adjust the levels for the individual channels? Whether in mono or stereo mode, we press the “1/2” button to toggle between channels, but then when we press the “db” button, it mutes the selected channel. It doesn’t lower or raise the volume of the selected channel. What are we missing?
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi dear! So by what I understood you can't adjust the level individually with both tx paired. What you could do is go to Rode Central app, activate the the 10 step control, and adjust it to fit the loudest mic. Then in post compensate for the difference, or you could also play with the mic distance to the mouth. Like putting one upper in someone's jacket and other a bit lower. What's your scenario? Give us a description and we'll try to help with some more ideas 😊
@PioneerFoto3 жыл бұрын
@@FlyEnri Scenario: two person interview; wedding with officiant and groom mic'd. Normally I run two Sennheiser AVX wireless systems with the MKE2 lavs to a Zoom H6 recorder, then run a 3.5mm stereo cable from the zoom to the camera. Audio would be already paired with video, no need to line it up in post. I'd rather keep doing that, then mess with distance of lav, or hope to adjust in post.
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
hmmmm, but the voice level won't be all that different i immagine from officiant and groom, with the 10 step control you'd probably be able to find a good spot and later in post will have to change minimally the gain of the whole clip, not parts, just to hit the right dB level. I never liked much the solution with many moving parts..
@PioneerFoto3 жыл бұрын
@@FlyEnri I'm sorry I have to disagree with you on that. An officiant who does this all the time always speaks louder because they're more comfortable. Anyone nervous, like a groom will speak quieter. And if that lav is supposed to pick up the Bride's vows, she's further from the lav on the groom. Setting levels for the officiant will make the groom and especially the bride much quieter. I never liked having to "fix it in post" ESPECIALLY AUDIO. Adjusting gain in post will also elevate the noise floor which requires more audio editing- not fun. It's so much better and easier to be able to adjust the two lavs according to the talent wearing them, than fixing in post.
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, they will definitely speak at different levels, what I meant is technically talking in dB levels, it's in theory adaptable with the fine gain control. And of course it goes tested, but the difference between someone talking loud and someone talking normal is roughly 12 to 15dB. At the same time, a 1m distance also reduces about that in the gain of the Wireless Go. So I'm guessing, that, mic on the officiant at waist level, gain adapted to groom, and bride will be 1m away also, will give you good signal to noise ratio, considering invited people will be far and quiet, hahaha Now I wanna experiment this :)

@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi dear ! Statistically for sure some will have to be returned because of some issue, it's impossible to avoid in a huge scale. Use the warranty and in the meantime the only thing i can suggest you is to rent a new one immediately to be able to use it in the wedding! Here it costs about 20 to 30 euro for a day, so it shouldn't be a huge problem. Hope you find it there !
@JOHNNYUPLOADZ3 жыл бұрын
looks like you recorded in a big room, not much sound damping, I can hear that in the mic. My concern recording in my high ceiling room, hard wood floors similar environment. Will using this mic require editing audio, compression, limiting etc?
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi Johnny!! Exactly, it's quite big, around 6m x 4m with no sound treatment at all. Also since I was recording on one of the corners of the room and the ceiling is on a 45 degrees angle I get the sound reflection from both wall and ceiling in that spot. Yes, definitely you need at least a deReverb on it. You can watch one of my other videos in which I applied the treatment and it already sounds much better but not perfect. I'd say that for KZbin videos it's already enough. It gives you a very clear and non distracting audio. The best way I found in my case was to use a shotgun mic really close to me, with the back turned to the other end of the room. The back also picks up a bit, so the other wall being so far, the deReverb works better with that reflection. I'm considering getting some sound blankets... Thanks for watching dear!
@JOHNNYUPLOADZ3 жыл бұрын
@@FlyEnri thanks for the info. I agree the shotgun works really well in my room but I have to be 4ft close. I’ve ordered the GO 2 pack and try a lav for less room reverb

@@JOHNNYUPLOADZ Amazing! Let me know how it turns out ! I got one Boya M1 lav here also, but the reverb is actually quite similar when using only the Rode. I rented a Sennheiser and that one was incredibly better, picking up way less noise from far away. But only that lav costs 300 euro, hahahahaha

Hi Aboi! Thanks for watching! The constructions is roughly the same, so sound quality is very similar. Because of connection improvements, you'll get more frequently good signal, but since it's digital doesn't affect much the quality itself, but yes the reliability.

Good review. How does it perform with room noise?
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Welcome dear!! Pretty good, it still gets reverb but since your own body is blocking what reflects on the wall behind you it's better than the directional mic. The noise floor is lower and in my case for example in which there's a fridge close to where i record, there's no need to turn it off with this mic. Thanks for watching!
@idahofallsmagazine36913 жыл бұрын
@@FlyEnri Sorry, I think I worded my question wrong. What I'm asking about is room tone (the "sound of silence"). You say the noise floor is lower ... you mean lower than the internal mic of the camera?
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
@@idahofallsmagazine3691 It's lower than the internal mic of the camera, and also audio quality can't even be compared. If I film beyond 35mm, the voice level is already so close to reverb and other noises that it's impossible to improve. When I'm with the 14mm, meaning the camera is very close to me, the in camera mic does ok, but still not comparable to having a proper external mic. Definitely good mic and good light are the best investments to improve quality on a video, even above camera and lens quality sometimes.

Great review! Have you had issues with the audio clipping even with the turned down to -30? That seems to be the lowest it goes and it still clips. Thanks!
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan!! If you configured it to be -30 and it's still clipping you probably need to check the audio levels on the camera! They have to work together. To troubleshoot this, you can first check the levels on the Receiver. There's the bar that indicates the levels there, and if it's already clipping there, then it's the position of the microphone or the gain on the Rode is too loud. If there is ok, but on the camera LCD it is clipping, then it's the gain on the camera! Try it out and let me know if it worked! Good luck!

thanks for comparison , i bought GO I a few weeks ago and i wasn't happy , i did return and bought GO II a few days ago,,,i need some advise please , I thought two transmitter can make better sound when i play music in background but it didn't ...I put second transmitter close to my music speaker and i talked through from first transmitter on my shirt while teaching on Zoom , volume was level 2 but i've tried level 1 as well .... SO how can i improve music quality in background with GO II ? probably you will say buy a mixer and lets see if only GO II can improve that....Thnaks
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi dear! I will check the best solution for you, looks like there is a software you could use to play the music and get the audio from the microphone and mix them. But yeah, recording your room audio with a microphone is never a very good solution, also because your voice will come from both, and it will sound like an echo... I watched your most recent video and understood the issue. I had similar issues when I was recording for a gym here in my city. I'll get back to you :)

Hi Melvin, i say in the beginning that this you're listening to is the first version, so I'm showing how it works for you to understand if you really need the second or if it's enough for your needs. did they fix the latency?
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
For normal recordings, interviews, weddings, etc for which I've used the first version extensively for a year, the latency was never noticeable, but I've heard people saying that in press conferences and stuff that have a lot of other transmitters it can suffer a bit. I haven't tested the new one in this kind of situation. If that's your scenario I'd look more into it. For the other cases mentioned, I think you're safe :D Thanks a lot for watching!

I'd love to see a test with someone's back to camera within a few feet. I'm recording a presenter walking around and they'll be crouching down and turning away from camera. The old system cut out...
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
Hi Oliver, thanks for watching and welcome here!! Interesting, I never had trouble turning away from the camera, being only a few feet away, but I can only imagine that being inside a theater or similar, might have much more interference in play than being outdoors. Anyway, with version 2 you can enable the recording internally in the transmitter so it won't matter. Just be sure to check the levels are right, mic well positioned, battery good to go and even if you totally lose connection in the middle of the presentation you can relax that audio will be recorded!
@olivertruswell3 жыл бұрын
@@FlyEnri I actually went out and bought this today so keen to test it out. The first version of this is only usable for me if the presenter is not moving and talking to camera. The second they walk around it can cut out if I lose line of sight so I'm praying that this one is better. Looks so from the reviews I've seen
@FlyEnri3 жыл бұрын
@@olivertruswell Awesome! Let me know later how it goes! Remember that to activate the recording internally you'll have to connect it to the computer first and access it with the Rode app. Also if you don't want the hassle later with replacing small bits you can simply grab the whole audio from the internal recording and replace the in camera. Good luck!

Nearly new used is preferable cost benefit. Frequently technical gear is purchased by amateurs and then never used. Sits around and then is resold. My Rode #1 was $95 in mint condition used. DJI Osmo $150, Pocket $80. Go used. You will find the GO II for half the cost of new.

@@FlyEnri I now have two Osmos and three pockets. All from Craigslist local, an OfferUp local, and the rest from eBay. Everything I've gotten has been in working order. I got one of the Osmos for very little on eBay, and the only issue with that one was the battery door was a little weak. The best deals are usually from private sellers. Storefronts bolstering their Sales Online are usually very trustworthy.
