Greetings knoptop! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I just checked out your channel to see what situation you're filming in and OMG! Dude love your channel! Subbed! For your indoor videos you should be good because of the confined space. What may potentially worry me if the different outdoor settings you've been in. Specifically the mini tripod video where you appeared from behind a rock. I have to wonder how the RODE wireless go would work in that situation, you seem decently close to the camera maybe 15 ft away or so, but even if you have the RODE hidden under your shirt in the front, I wonder if the RF would bounce off the rock in the other direction and therefore never reach the receiver while outdoor doors in the wide open... Definitely something to test after my next weeks video. Thanks again for stopping by, keep up the great work over there, love the content! See you in the next one!

Good review. For anyone planning to use these at large conferences or tradeshows, bring a backup mic system. Large crowds of people mean many mobile devices with WiFi and Bluetooth. So many devices completely trash the 2.4 GHz spectrum, making almost all 2.4 GHz devices useless. No amount of frequency hopping solves thousands of 2.4 GHz devices trying to communicate at the same time.

Hey hey James! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Good points! While I haven't personally shot in these situations, I will bring this with me next year if I get a chance to go to NAB Vegas again. But it seems that the system will do just fine so as long as your camera and RODE are quite close to each other at the tradeshow floor like many reviewers were showing when the Wireless Go was announced in Vegas. Some did some distance tests on the show floor in line of sight and they seemed to be able to get to 30-40ft before all the 2.4ghz signals started to interfere. Of course this can vary if you are in a shoulder to shoulder situation, but for the most part I was very surprised at how well it did with the NAB Vegas Tradeshow tests! All and all, what an exciting time for audio solutions, finally something that works well for most situations and not terribly expensive all things considered! Thanks again for stopping by and i"ll see you in the next one!

Listened to this on my way home from work. I want to use this with a shotgun mic on a boom pole. Connect a Bluetooth adapter to the headphone jack on the camera for an ultra wireless book setup. Now I don’t have it to test it out, but the idea seems liberating
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
I guess technically since I have two of them, I could use the second unit I have into my GH5's headphone jack and then make sure I get one of those headphones with a volume rocker on it. I have a feeling a bluetooth setup would have too much latency and be trippy for you to hear and record. A colleague of mine had that Sony Bluetooth clip on lav mic and it was always 1 frame off compared to the other wireless lav mics. It was a pain to monitor in out recorders.

This is killer for narrative work. I’m very excited about this product. My suggestion is that they sell multiple receivers that can be paired to one transmitter. That way the sound guy can have one, the camera can record a safety track, and the script supervisor can clearly hear the dialog. Regarding your metal cage idea, that might interfere with the transmitter/receiver. GREAT review!
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Supperconductor! Thanks as always for checking out another video and commenting! I wouldn't put it past RODE that they are probably working on something like that for the Rode Link mkII, or if for some reason they can firmware update the GO to go into that kind of pairing mode with multiple receivers. I wonder though, the cage wouldn't cover up the entire unit rather it builds a thin skeletal structure so that the unit is still quite exposed, but can take broad object hitting it without damaging the unit. Or I guess maybe otterbox can make something for RODE? Those things are all military drop tested and stuff arnt they? Really gonna think about this, cause if it can be done with no ill effects, I want to pursue the idea for what I want to use these mics for in our productions haha. Thanks again for stopping by! Greetings Candy Arts TV, Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting. Maybe for their advanced model, but I also have to assume that an SD card that close to a radio transmitter and receiver could potentially cause interference? Either way, could be awesome to always have that safety, but could be a nuisance without a dedicated record button cause you’ll have one loooong file. I don't think this is possible in the current setup. You would need extra recording hardware. And a way to setup your recording, thus a display. And how do you gonna get your recording to start and stop? The Tascam CS and DR10 do this recording job, but they don't transfer wirelessly. However, you could combine these two.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
That would definitely be an interesting option combining the two, I wonder how clean the headphone ports are from DR10? The CS looks awesome but sadly it looks like they had to pull the product from the USA market because of some patent situation. Sigh, that product looked like it was the go-to solution for anyone using a wireless lav pack or sorts.

@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Chris! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I definitely placed this RODE into a horrible situation outside where I had plenty of room from the nearest tree and anything for the signal to bounce off of. In that scenario I was so surprised at the moment I turned around, bam! signal gone. I don't know if this would truly be a problem for the types of productions I do when we film outside, but I will soon find out in the next couple months as I plan to deploy these on a short film set and see how they fair. Thanks again for stopping by! See you in the next one for some insanity and fun with these Wireless GO's!
@chrisklugh
@chrisklugh 5 жыл бұрын
@@TLDR_filmmaker Ya, try to keep an updated note on how much of an issue this might be in real world applications. I think for standing in front of a camera in close proximity without moving around too much, this is a great tool. But if this is a limitation, I think I will keep my bulky wireless lavs for the more important work or where distance and turning will be a factor. Makes me wonder if Rode knows about this issue and have intentionally set a low price to move them fast. And/or they will come out with a version 2 to fix and improve this unit, and it will cost twice as much.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
I definitely will keep note on my experience as I will be deploying this on a short film set next month. I think for all indoor purposes, there shouldn't be a problem, the wide open outdoor (a park with no building structures) is where I think the only problems lies. I think RODE know this ahead of time, but the product itself was never meant to be pushed in that way. The product seemed to marketed for people that just wanted top notch quick audio no matter where they were with minimal setup time. A vlogger potentially go step far away from the camera, but wouldn't necessarily care as much for the TX to be on the front, unhidden, if he knew that he needed to make sure it was open line of site to the RX. For me when I was well over 100ft away, the moment I turned around the RODE was fine and didn't drop as I slowly made my way back towards the camera. For us on narrative sets that want something this small but also to hide all of it, this is where we are going to push this system the hardest beyond what RODE created it for. Not at any fault of their own, I don't blame them for this limitation as I believe it can be remedied a lot faster than other traditional mic systems that don't cost $2000 per lav set. But damn do those 2K lav sets perform like a dream, and they are quite small too!. Either way, I'm quite excited to see how far I can push this wireless go and if handles 80% of what I shoot. If it does, then my investment is well satisfied and I love that I no longer have to bring a large box of stuff for my Saramonics. The size difference and now available space in my Pelican case is insane!

Excellent video! Can you explain 3:30 a bit more? [when you mention running -12db because it 'runs hot']
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Alejandro! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! What this means is that the RODE GO provides a very nice and loud signal to your camera. There are three settings in the RODE GO, the loudest being 0dB, and the lowest being -12dB. In my cameras case (GH5) I need to set the RODE GO to -12dB because the the mic input is decently sensitive but too sensitive to let the RODE GO operate at its 0dB setting. So this is what I mean that the RODE GO "runs hot" (for the GH5) some other cameras like older Canon cameras have very poor mic sensitivity, so those cameras would probably like to operate the RODE GO to operating at 0dB. Hope this makes sense and helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

Although not as convenient as a built-in micro-SD card built in, there is a solution to getting audio when the transmission drops (ie, out of Line of Sight, Camera turned off, etc). It is a bit bulkier but.....plug a lav mic into a Zoom H1n (Giant Squid works great, the Rode lavs work almost as well) and have it recording continuously. Plug the H1n into the Rode Transmitter. There generally are enough pockets on the groom to make this work. Not as compact as your idea but you can get ahold of the H1n for about $100 US, or even better get ahold of the original H1 for even less.

Another thing Rode could do considering most phones, if not all major brands, don't have a headphone jack. Now with Bluetooth 5.0 commonplace, allowing two devices to be paired to your phone at the same time, how about a Bluetooth option that can be paired straight away out of the box!? Wouldn't that be crazy for IGTV or vlogging?

Hey hey escapemechanic! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting your use case! That is definitely an awesome way to get a nice sound wirelessly! I wonder, depending on your needs if you can plug your H5 into the soundboard and then use the RØDE Wireless Go floating around somewhere in the venue to capture the "Environmental Acoustics" and crowds, have that routed back to the 2nd XLR input for the H5. This way you won't just have a raw clean sound but you have the option to give it that natural room reverb of the performance. I've never done this for a band or solo acts, but have done something similar recording stage plays and such. I wonder if it'll work well for bands. Hopefully the RX unit will be able to also arm the SD recorder from afar so that you don't have a 12hr recording to match up in post. Thanks again for stopping by! See you in the next one!

@@TLDR_filmmaker Good guess. However, Zaxcom owns the patent for recording transmitters. This is also the reason why Tascam can't sell the DR-10 variant of their recorder in the USA. jwsoundgroup.net/index.php?/topic/31762-zaxcom-patent-discussion/ Zaxcom does make recording transmitters if you want to purchase one of their models.

I'd love to know if this would be a suitable system for a speaker running workshops/retreats etc in a sometimes noisy room, walking around and through the activities. Also, with often loud music playing. So not vlogging etc. I guess more like a stage mic?

Hey hey Rob! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! If the RODE GO is plugged into a PA system, it can work that way, the only part that would make me weary is if the speaker goes into the crowd and starts talking. Depending on what kind of environment they are in, theres always the chance the signal could cut in and out, especially outside. When it comes to noise being around and they are trying to talk, it'll probably pick it up when the speaker is not talking, but how loud it picks it up is all depending on just how loud it is. Lav mics and these built in mics in general will always be picking up sounds around it. In these cases you want to have a Dynamic Wireless Microphone where its not going to pick up these noises from the surrounding area or the PA speakers themselves. But if you really want to go with these types of small systems. I'd probably suggest the Comica Boom XU because of its UHF 500 frequency (Free to use in USA) and it comes with a lav mic so the speaker can just have the pack on their hip and walk around. Hey hey Adam! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This is quite a common question, unfortunately the answer is no, one would assume that it could potentially do it, but then the receiver will have to account for signal hoping for two TX units and battery life will probably suffer. All things considered when you take into account what the price is for other dual channel audio systems, buying two RODE GO's is actually the same price. That being said, it'll be interesting if RODE every develops some sort of big master receiver that can handle multiple RODE GO Transmitters... that could be very interesting! Hope this helps, sorry for the bad news, thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

Great review, I would of loved to see you test this outside and do a mock interview to see what would happen as you are interviewing someone and they turn sideways, do you lose sound. Also if you are interviewing two people, can you by two sets of Wireless Go’s and will the pair with one receiver that is connected to the camera?

Greetings Brandon! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! In the report mic example in the beginning portion, your best reference is when I full extend my arm away from my face. The Mic was still pointed upwards instead of at my face. I'm 6' tall so the distance was about 2.5ft away from my face. So assuming your in interview distance and the person is talking to you but then turns their head to talk to the camera for a second, I think you'll still be able to pick up a good amount of their voice. The RØDE wireless go is only a one to one system and can't do a dual setup like some other systems. However this is not necessarily a negative point as the cost for two units is either equal or cheaper than a dual wireless setup to one RX. Also depending on the manufacturers, some don't compensate that the RX will require more battery power so your RX will die before your TX's. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

TLDR Filmmaker thanks for the reply. I am thinking more of a scenario where each person is mic’d up with a Lav mic versus doing the reporter interviewer style with the microphone that goes back and forth. I find with that one depending on the person and how fast the respond I might miss some of there response. I am talking with RØDE and there appears they might have a way to setup two separate Wireless Go solutions and having of record into one camera. I’m just waiting to hear back from them. Great video

@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
You're most welcome! The two separate Wireless Go setup is definitely the most ideal situation. Or what you can do is get two units, one is clipped onto your and the other is a reporter setup so that you never have to clip it onto the person and that way you're always mic up and will never miss what the interview-ee says. As for having two signals recording into your camera at the same time. I covered this in my follow up video here on how you can do it cheaply: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZ7XeJ2IibZ_a9k A more controllable situation is to get the cheap preamps that I talk about in that video, but it will bulk up your camera setup a little. Hope this helps!

Cool Review bro, but they should fix this annoying "No-Sound when turning back" issue on their next upgrade. I have a cheap UHF wireless microphone with a rechargeable lithium-ion transmitter and receiver pack, and it's just around a centimeter larger than the RODE wireless Go, but what's amazing about it is, it comes with 2 microphones included, with colored LCD display, works with any Lavs too, and I can go anywhere within 50 meters radius and I can still have a 100% signal and awesome sound quality, even if I turn around from the transmitter. And it's only $40 dollars.

Hey hey Freakychumy! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I have a feeling RODE will definitely try to fix it with their next gen. This was most likely one of those things that they didn't account for or knew that it would happen with 2.4ghz systems when it comes to LOS. UHF systems definitely still work much better, I would like to see a UHF system that acts like the 2.4ghz system where it will do frequency hoping incase something starts to come in, that would be awesome and keep both tech moving together. Hey hey Conrad! As always, thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Hmm... that is indeed a good question. Tascam would definitely ensure that signal drops are not a problem, but I know I personally try to avoid dual audio recording setups unless I absolutely have to. As of right now, I'd say if you are primarily filming indoors in a confined where the RF signal can bounce around. The RODE would be the one I'd go for, if you know you'll be outside in the wide open like the park, then I'd be weary unless you can make the person always have the transmitter facing the receiver. I so hope that RODE will eventually add a MicroSD into their wireless audio kids and get into the recording game. I'm sure one of the reason they can't do this just yet is because of the interference from the TX/RX transmitting signals so close to the audio components internally. I'll have a follow up review in a few months as I put it through some other situations that's not youtube and see how well it performs. I think it should be fine, knowing its distance limitations ahead of time. Until then, I'll see you in the next one!

Hey hey Alley Cat! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! For me with the GH5 the recordings I get bounce between -12db and -6db, so I bump it up a little with a limiter being my safety. It's not the most elegant of solutions compared to a pro-sound editor, but for my needs it does the trick. Essentially a lot of online content is pretty loud already and I'm simply matching with them as best as I can. So if someone came to my video they won't need to pump of their volume to hear me based on what their stereo was set at for another video. Hope this makes sense and helps! Great info and I appreciate your direct observations and real life tests without all the fluff! I’m starting my channel soon but have been learning video editing using Lumafusion on my iPad for helping create videos for a friend. As a newcomer, my only real challenge has been the audio because I don’t want to go through so many devices. Right now I have a Movo lavalier and a Zoom H1n. For the video “rig” I’m using the Osmo Pocket. The Zoom is great but gets bulky and is like to replace it with something so mobile and discreetly this Rode. Any suggestions on: 1. Best way to set up this Rode with the Osmo Pocket? 2. Using this Rode to capture a room environment of conversation? My friend stays in one room speaking & occasionally turns around. BUT sometimes she converses with me or I’ll ask questions, etc while I’m still behind the camera. People need to hear my voice clearly when I ask questions, etc but her voice needs to remain just as clear. I just viewed your 6 tips/uses video and had no idea this device was so versatile! It would be nice if Rode changed the design to represent more of a narrow flat tube which won’t protrude from the clothes as much. Just my thoughts. If possible, it would be cool to see you use this Rode wireless GO with an Osmo Pocket and share your insights. Regardless, thanks to you, I’m now sure to get this device! Thank you! Subscriber....NOW.

Greetings A Simple Chat! Thank you so much for checking out this video, asking a question, commenting, and subscribing! So glad you got some value from this video! Unfortunately because I don't have a @DJI pocket to attempt to find a solution, I can only use my observation of the design to see how I would attempt it... And quite honestly I would probably just by a thick wrist band and clip the receiver to my Osmo operating wrist (Very similar to what I did for the fighting punch sounds). This would put the receiver very close to the External Mic Adapter of the Pocket and negate the need to make the Osmo pocket bulkier and clunkier. In your second situation, how far apart you are is going to determine how clear you can hear each other. But something tells me there's a decent 6+ feet between you two, in this case you would really want to run two microphones to ensure you are able to get the cleanest audio no matter which direction you and your friend are talking. I'm not sure how the audio is handled in the Osmo Pocket, if it's stereo you can do the Stereo Splitter cable I showed (To get more flexibility in post production) Hope this helps! Maybe one of these days I'll get to work with DJI with some reviews! I love their drones! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

Hey hey Rocco! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Yea, unfortunately if you use an external Mic thats plugged into the headphone jack or adapter, you're only going to get a mic signal and the internal speakers will assume you are using a headset. There are some TRRS splitters out there so that you could have the mic go into one port and external computer speakers going into the other. However this has mixed results. While I can't say for sure about the Beats Pro earbuds as I don't have any. You will definitely want to find youtubers that actually perform a Microphone test, as it seems that most don't. Generally speaking these more expernsive earbuds have better mics so that you sound nice and clear. My cheap bluetooth earbuds sound very hallow when I am talking on a voice call. Since you are doing pilates classes where music cues on beat are not necessary. A good quality set of earbuds is the preferred method for teaching on a video conference platform. Mainly because its easier for the instructor with no wires, and if its a good quality one, the mic will sound quite nice for the students on the other end. Hope this helps! Greetings Miika! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! It's definitely one of those things that some people have turned their heads on, but I get why RØDE did it. Obviously if you use a Lav mic it wont matter but a couple ways I can think of, since most people are clipping it where the mic is inside the shirt. You can either print off your own brand stick and attach it over it so that you can promote yourself, or gaff tape as Uncle Fjester suggests, or if you get fancy you can use some epoxy or black plastidip and paint it into the grooves and flatten it out so that it becomes flush. I personally don't find this as big of a deal for my needs because I wouldn't use the clip setup for client work, and I'd have to assume most other creators using it for client work would just attach a lav to it to lessen the mic's overall visibility. In my opinion it's just one of those things that "yes it's annoying" but in reality we'd never use it that way except for vlogging, youtube, trade shows, and any other work that is just for delivering information. Other than that, its a freaking amazing mic and I've never deployed a wireless audio so much in a month just because its so easy to use! I've even attached it to my computer's Mic Port to do voice overs when I gave a short FCPX tutorial in today's episode! I would have never bothered with my old Saramonic kit, but this Wireless GO? Its too quick and too easy just to do it, LOVE THIS THING! Enjoy it! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

TLDR Filmmaker good points. I think it being small makes it something you can carry with your camera even when you dont think your going to record audio. I bought on because I need to make quick interviews in an event. I thought I would go with WirelessGo instead of an reporter mic. Greetings Ponninftw! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! There should be no problems in terms of lithium battery limits with the RODE GO for flight. The FAA guideline says a battery can't surpass 100wh I believe. Our smartphones definitely have more power than a RODE GO and we are able to bring that onto the plane with us. That being said, its always nice to have a piece of paper stating all the gears battery "wh" ratings for the security check so that they don't have to check each of your devices manually. However, I can't seem to find a "wh" rating on the RODE GO battery, maybe its because its so small that it doesn't require it? Long story short, I wouldn't worry to much. Hope this helps! There is also the major possibility that my ears may not be able to hear what you hear, id have to put the audio track through a spectrum scope to see if I see a constant frequency hiss going across the recording. Other than that, to me the audio sounds very clear compared to my Saramonic system where the noise floor was much higher. It's definitely been a lot of fun so far using this thing. The portability and simplicity is what's making this amazing for me. As I said in the video, RODE has made it impossible for me not to bring it with me. My last current Saramonic Uwmic9 was fine, but I never enjoyed setting it up and using it as much as I do with this wireless GO. Everything is so quick and I can get filming right away! Enjoy yours when you receive it and have fun!

I recently figured out what was going on, I finally heard it in a different video. Turns out my GH4 mic port is busted. Thank goodness as I thought I had defective units, turns out it was that old GH4!

Another great review. Audio sounded a little hot, maybe on my end. Was listening through minimal speakers. Wouldn't worry about battery life. If they've used quality batteries, they should be able to withstand 500 to 1000 complete charge - discharge cycles without losing any run time. Partial charge cycles don't count as a full cycle. So if the average use is a half discharge, that would be 1000 to 2000 half-discharge - recharge cycles. From then, it's usually slow diminished in run time, not immediate failure. By the time that many cycles have been run through these, you'll probably be using something else. Though would warn about leaving them in a hot car. Lithium batteries DO NOT like hot car interiors. A handful of hot car days and they'll be finished.

Hey hey again Michael! Thank you so much for checking out another video and commenting! It's definitely a little crispy because my voice doesn't alway speak at a constant dynamic, but I didn't want to use a compressor to color the mics sound so I had parts of the audio hit the limiter on purpose. May not have been the best method, but my intent was for people to hear as much of the natural sound coming from the wireless GO as possible. You are right about the battery cycles, I always assume 500 cycles at the very least. I know I'm not using a full cycle everyday, so this Lav set should last me quite a few years! Really excited with what RODE has made here, I can't wait to see their next gen of the RODE link and GO. Cause chances are I will be getting them to build up my audio kit. Most likely going to say goodbye to my current Saramonic UWmic9 setup. Thanks again for stopping by! See you in the next one!

There is a Lav mic port that I talked about in the video, you would simply use a Lav mic and use the RODE GO as a traditional transmitter pack. I show this when I was outdoors. My talking head stuff for the majority of this video was purposely filmed with the built in mic as for the time this was unheard of and many wanted to know how it sounded compared to having to wire up a lav. @TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Heather! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! In terms of the RODE GO, I really like the sound that I get from it and have used it on a couple client shoots already. (During this client shoot I used either the Deity w.LAV mic or the built in mic) While it doesn't have all the parameter adjustments of a Sennheiser G3, it does its job well enough that I feel the adjustments options arn't really needed. This of course completely depends on the use-case and if you're going into a recorder or straight into the DSLR. Trained ears will probably hear more than what I hear and they will have an opinion if it's acceptable for their work, for me with the videos I film the RODE GO does a great job capturing the voice and not clipping internal with or without a external lav mic. I haven't quite used this in a narrative film yet, but I expect it to perform quite well and with it being so small, much easier to hide onto the actor. Hope this helps! @TLDR_filmmaker

Continuing from your other comment. You can either do the two RODE GO options, or in the other video I take about using a splitter so that you can connect two Lav Mics to one TX. This is the absolute last resort and not something I would use all the time as it's only good for two people at a table talking without moving. That setup will also not allow you to edit audio levels if one person talks too softly versus the other. Definitely check out that follow up video I linked and see if it would help with your setup :)

Hey hey again Fala! I haven't personally used a Zoom H5, if you're able to record both XLR's and the 3.5mm jack all at the same time, all you would need is two 3.5 to XLR adapters to accommodate for the two GO's. The third GO can go into the 3.5mm input. I personally use the RØDE VXLR+ 3.5mm adapter (review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5anYaqDncSmq80 ) Main reason is to supply phantom power to cheap 3.5mm mics if I need to, they also work as a regular XLR adapter as well, a nice two for one. The reason you'd need a second full set is because you can't have two transmitters connect with one receiver. They are single channel 1 to 1 systems. If you are still on a budget after purchase two sets, you can actually connect two recievers to your cameras stereo mic input and be able to work with two channels of audio in your editor. @TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings Rocketmarketing! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! If you are vlogging behind the camera, and this is assuming you have your hand on the camera (basically within arms reach of the camera) the audio will not cut out because of your super close proximity to the RX. If you for some reason have the TX pack clipped behind you with a lav mic and you find yourself 15-20ft behind the camera in a pure open field narrating what the camera is seeing, then you could run into trouble. In general I think the limitation I showed is a rare scenario for what this mic was designed for. In general with vlogging and non-clientele type videos, we probably don't care as much if the TX is somewhat showing in the shot. It all depends, but in the end I think people will rarely come into problems with normal filming situations. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Hope to see you in the next one!

@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Jarek! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! While this is not the best scenario to try and capture two people with one RODE GO. You can do the trick that I show here with the Headphone splitter cable and two lavs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXOvoKV3e9iEpdk This is not desirable, but works if you really need it, is because if one of your speakers is a loud breather, you're going to hear EVERYTHING and there is no way for you to eliminate it. You generally should use a two mic setup. I actually just reviewed a new wireless mic that can handle this very well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3KulmahibqpatE A different way is to place the RODE GO between the two people, without a lav, but the two will need to sit quite close to catch each persons voice. Hey hey Aroun! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! It definitely depends on the mixer, older mixers sometimes only have 1/4" plugs. Once you know which plug is needed, then yes, a simple cable adapter into a 3.5mm will work. However I have not fed a line signal into a RØDE GO, most likely you'll need to make sure you can lower the gain on the master output quite a bit if its a LINE signal, that way it doesn't potentially clip the RØDE Go. Can you plug music to into wireless go using the 3.5 input of the tx and connect to a speaker? Thanks
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Bernard! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I just wanna make sure you mean to have the TX wireless transmit music to a speaker and essentially make it wireless. While it can be done, it may not be the most elegant of solutions, there are probably cheaper things out there that do the same thing. For this to work you will probably still need a "attenuator cable" that goes from your music source into the RODE GO TX. Because the TX only takes in a lower level signal (mic level) This way your audio doesn't distort when wirelessly going to the RX. Next you'd need a pretty decent amplifier on the RX side because these are, again, Mic level sounds so you will need to really amplify the signal to get a loud sound out of your speaker. At the of all this, I'm not sure how good your music is going to sound. In my opinion, this is probably not a good setup. Hope this helps. Thanks again for stopping by! @@TLDR_filmmaker Thank you for the reply, brother. I actually have the rode wireless go ii already that I use for interviews. I just wanted to see how else I could use it in other situations. I found a way to have a wireless setup to a Bose S1 pro active speaker by connecting a 3.5 TRS to the rx wireless go with the other TRS end to a VXLR+. I then connect the male XLR end to the input XLR of the speaker. I now have 2 wireless mics that I can use for a lecture type setup. If a lav mic can be connected to the tx side, my theory is that I can feed audio from my smartphone or from an audio mixer to the speaker wirelessly using one of the tx mics. I can then use the 2nd tx rode as my dj mic. I haven't tested this theory yet because I don't want to cause damage to my rode rig. If it works, then it will save me from buying a wireless audio transmitter, and have a completely wireless setup using what I have that will make me even place my audio source a hundred feet away from the speaker! Btw, I have a zoom UAC-2 audio interface that I can use to amplify audio that the rx rode picks up from the tx rodes. Thanks and stay well.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Ah gotcha. In this case for the DJ setup, you mainly just need that LINE to MIC attenuator cable going into the TX from your phone or mixer, thats pretty much it. Something like this: geni.us/dGRLD2N (affiliate link) The only one thing that may be wonky for the mixer version is I'm not sure if the Radio Frequency of the TX will cause any interference with your mixer system and you get that digital beeping sound in the audio. Thats definitely something you test. But otherwise all you really need is that cable to get going.

@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Grace! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Yes, this is possible, I've plugged the RODE GO directly to my desktop for voice-overs during tutorials before. How this works depends on what kind of computer you have and if it has a dedicated "mic" port. If it has a dedicated "mic" port, all you have to do is use the included audio cable and plug it in, from there you just need to make sure your streaming program knows to get audio from the Mic Port. If you have a laptop that only has one 3.5mm port that acts as a headphone and microphone port, you will need to get a TRS to TRRS cable. The TRS (Two black rings) would go into your RODE GO, the TRRS (three black rings) will go into your laptop. If you end up needing this type of cable, I have a link to it in the description. Hope this helps and good luck! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey hey again Hendrikus! Thanks for checking out another video and asking a question! It really depends, there's key point where I talk about being out in the open (Think a vast desert) is where the line of sight becomes very apparent, if I was to be outside in a strip mall where there are lots of walls for the signal to bounce from, I can walk further away with the TX not in line of sight. But that being said, it's definitely not ideal to always be conscious of this fact so UHF systems will still win out as a more robust system with a price tag to match. But, i'm excited to see how all the companies advancing the 2.4ghz audio tech will combat these "out in the open" scenarios in the future... assuming the price point is still the same haha. Hey Jon! You cannot use two TX to one RX, each one is paired independently. I hope in the future maybe the 1st Gen can pair multiple RX to one TX, and maybe Gen 2 will be able to pair two TX to one RX, though id assume the RX would have to be larger. However at the end of the day, the cost of two full sets was the same price as my old Saramonic Uwmic9 that allowed 2x TX and 1x RX, that setup was not as ideal battery wise for the RX. But I have to imagine that it might be ok. I've actually been binging your channel this weekend and well let's just say my wallet isn't feeling too good: > My 2nd Rode Go Wireless > Comica CVM-AX3 > Two Rode VXLR 3.5mm I have to film (EOS R) a debate in a lecture hall next week, I think I'm good to go, right?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Yup! You are good to go to have full control of each RODE GO. I'm assuming the Comica CVM comes with a cable that goes from it into your EOS-R mic jack. I don't know if the EOS-R has audio meters, but make sure you look at it so you can determine the audio adjustments from the comica as the debate goes on. Depending on how long the debates are, make sure to have some USB Powerbanks with you to keep the units charged. The units attached to the comica could be powered through regular USB wall plugs if you are near an outlet. Hope this further helps! Have fun with the shoot next week!

Hey hey Neon! Thank you so much for checking out another video and commenting! I didn't think to do that test, I probably should have, but when I looked at the results outside in the wide open, the moment my transmitter couldn't see the receiver cause of my body blocking it was enough reason for me to assume that I wouldn't want to use this unit as much outdoors unless I can assure that the TX will always be facing the RX (This is all assuming that I am getting audio directly into the camera and that I don't have a sound recorder/person off screen closer to the transmitter) Indoors the unit would be fine no matter where I hide it on the talent as I generally won't be filming that far away from the talent. Again assuming I'm grabbing audio straight into camera. This is definitely an interesting quirky feature of this RODE that could put off people from investing in it. But I think, as you suggested, you can get creative with where you mount the TX to ensure its always in site, and it's small enough to hide where it wouldn't be that hard to make it happen. I definitely have some additional ideas to test for next week's video! Until then, thanks again for stopping by! I'll see you in the next one!

Yeah, it was hard to gauge the reliability when he was wearing a backback. Say he wasn't wearing a backpack, would the range go even further. Let's say a wedding scenario where you wish to capture speaches. I've seen other videos where they reach 100ft away with just wearing a shirt. Reckon you could verify and test again sometime soon? Also incorporate the hip test... Thank you

Hey hey@@armankizir2185! Thank you so much for checking out this video and going through the comments! When you get a chance, check out my most recent video where I pit the Rode Wireless Go vs the PicoMic, in the distance test I am not wearing a backpack and I also do an extreme line of sight test by walking through a apartment unit until I go completely outside on the furthest end. In this scenario from this video it does not matter whether or not I wear a backpack. When you put a 2.4Ghz system into the worst possible scenario (outside in an open field with no immediate large wall structures around. The wireless my system will struggle or cut off completely because it has no structures to bounce and relay the signal further distances. This is why the moment I turn around the RODE cuts off. Weddings it's going to be a little different depending on where the wedding is being held, if its inside a church you will have won't have as much problems with line of sight because you are confining the wireless system inside a building. I've used the Wireless Go in a stage auditorium about 80feet away with many patrons inbetween me and the RODE and all was working fine. The hip test won't really prove much in wide open field scenarios because the moment it looses line of sight, it will cut off just the same. However placing it on the hip will definitely put the TX in a more open line of sight if you do have to film in an outdoor scenario. While these 2.4Ghz systems are amazing and most likely covers the average filmmaker, event filmmakers and videographers will have to consider what 90% of their filming situations are and invest accordingly. Systems like the RODE Link and Sennheiser AVX may do a bit better in these line of sight situations outdoors in the open field. I hope to test these one day! Hope this all makes sense and helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

Hey hey again Frank! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Unfortunately this unit is not able to do that like my Saramonic does, it would be interesting if RODE builts on the GO ecosystem and envelopes a stereo receiver that can pair two different transmitters. But even so, buying two of these sets comes to the same price as the Saramonics dual TX and one RX. And its still smaller and more portable! We shall see, RODE is going to make tons of money with this first general GO to put into R&D for their next gen products! Thanks again for stopping by! See you in the next one!

Hey hey Gatot! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Unfortunately I can't give a definitive answer because cheap lavs can be a hit or miss. But generally speaking, a cheap lav probably won't sound as "full and rich" as the RODE's built in mic, it may sound like there's not much "bass". However you can definitely raise the bass EQ in post editing to help give the sound a fuller feel. I definitely bought cheap lavs when I started out and just worked with it until I was able to purchase higher quality ones. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! How does this sound to record live music to a camcorder?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings Mark! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! That is a great question, unfortunately I don't film live music performances so I can't quite comment on the sound quality. Are you thinking about using the GO on its own placed somewhere in the venue or are you thinking about creating a wireless link from the sound mixers output to your camcorder for a clean sound? If doing a venue sound, my guess is because the GO is omnidirectional theres going to be a lot of Bass reverb depending on the type of music being played and the venue's acoustics. If you're going from the soundboard than all will be good in term of sound, but i'd have to wonder if the opening sound of a song would potentially clip because the GO may not expect it to come out so quickly? Definitely a very interesting idea, especially if you got two or three of them and taped them somewhere on the stage to capture a lot of acoustic sounds up close. I may try and find a way to test all this as I continue to find as many uses as I can for the Rode Wireless go! Thank you so much for stopping by! Hope to see you in the next one!

Gotcha, what wireless kit were you using before? The RØDE GO mic I feel has a nice bass and mid response, and if placed in by the bands speaker it will most likely adjust itself to not clip. In my 6 Creative Ways Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXOvoKV3e9iEpdk I placed my RØDE GO under the hood of my car next to the engine block and was able to record clean sounds into my Tascam recorder. I was quite surprised as I thought it would clip out with the microphone being that close to a roaring engine. But hopefully that gives you an idea of what the microphone sounds like next to a loud source. Hope this helps!

Is it possible and has anyone tried to connect professional headset mic into this thing? Like Shure WH20 for example?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Brani1974! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I personally have not, my only concern is if the RODE GO is able to drive the SHURE WH20's microphone after going through a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter. Are you looking to have a headset setup to go into your camera or online fitness classes? I've detailed a setup for online fitness classes here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHvVfIxnZdWcrLc The main item in that setup is the Kimafun Headset that will work for cameras or mixer setups. If its going into a cellphone you'll need a TRRS adapter. When it goes into the camera it will only give a "left" channel as its a traditional mono setup, but in editing you can dual mono the video so that people can hear your voice on both sides. If you already have a RODE GO and was looking for a way to get a headset onto it. I came up with a really crude setup, but I am still trying to find a headset mic that does not cause RF interference. However the concept is there, and like the first video, you may not even need a mic and can just use the RODE's built in mic and just have the transmitter attached to the headband. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n56YpGmOjLmme8k Hope this helps! @@TLDR_filmmaker thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I watched your ingenious video on how to make rode wireless go fitness set :-D and I think that's probably the easiest setup one can come up with for now. About 3 months ago I started looking for a way to record voice in GOOD quality + with video straight to my phone without having to use a million gadgets and expensive pro wireless systems, in a noisy environment like a beach. Naturally, Bluetooth 5 headsets could have been the best option, however, I found out that Bluetooth is using codecs which are way too destructive to record good quality audio. (From what I've read it is more the problem with codecs than with bandwidth). Next, most headsets are using heavy noise cancelation further degrading the sound quality... I think it could work if someone started making headsets with good boom microphones and use less destructive codecs...but I may be missing something... Then in the noisy environment most mic, including Rode wireless, pick up quite a bit of noise. I have Samson Q2U which is a dynamic mic with headphone monitoring and is absolutely fantastic in rejecting the background noise while producing fantastic sound...but it is vired and big... and that's where I started thinking of connecting a dynamic headset to something like Rode wireless go. Re Shure WH20, a guy from Rode gave me a short reply that I should "realistically be able to connect any 3.5mm TRS mic into it". Its a dynamic microphone so it doesn't require any power as far as I'm aware. Doesn't it mean there shouldn't be an issue with converting to 3.5mm and "driving" it, ? Sorry for the lengthy post, but in short, the main question is how to connect a good dynamic mic headset, preferably with monitoring, straight to a phone, or a camera wirelessly. I'm surprised no one is making anything like that already... Cheers Branislav

You're most welcome! Yea, bluetooth has always been a little wonky, I've never had good luck with bluetooth headsets being reliable 100%, sometime when I'm talking to people they'll suddenly say that my audio sounds extremely low or just crap out completely even though my phone is in my pocket and not somewhere far away. :( Hmm, that is a good point, I didn't realize the WH20 was a dynamic mic. I wonder though, if the mic doesn't need power, it would probably still need the transmitter or receiver to boost the sound at the tail end right? So I wonder if having the RODE GO receiver at 0dB will be pump it loud enough into the camera. Something tells me it might just be able to do it. Yup, I saw that video before. The boom mics hes uses are either self powered already or draw power from the mic port (Rode Micro).

Hey TheTishaTube! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Turn on the receiver first and you should see the little wifi signal blinking, then turn on the transmitter and see if it pairs up, if it doesn't then on the transmitter hit the Q button once (not hold) and it should pair.
