Rode did an amazing job on this update! They’re basically near perfect. One thing I asked them for was the ability to use different pro lav mics that required minimum 5v, from a quick glance at the spec sheet I believe these might even support that 💚

Questions: 1. Can you attach the RODE receiver to your OSMO Action 4 via USB-C and record audio? 2. Can you please test the timecode feature with the OA4 and see how long you can record without drift? In other words, use the RODE to record 32 bit audio after jam sync'ing the OA4. You can play the radio or TV and let it record that. Don't attach the RODE receiver to the OA4 though. Simply start and stop recording video using your OA4 pointed at the time code display on the RODE receiver so that you can read it on the video. It would also be helpful to have a view of the TV show in the background. Do this over the course of say 5 hours with multiple 1 minute videos each hour. The starting and stopping of the video is important. Then simply take the one 32 bit audio file from the transmitter and all of the individual video files and sync them in davinci resolve via timecode. I'm happy to do that for you if you upload the footage somewhere. That will allow us to easily find where the video and audio go out of sync? That's the whole reason for timecode. If it works as it should, it's better than the DJI mic plugin with the OA4. Essentially you'd never have to plugin any mic to the OA4 and within seconds in your NLE you can sync the 32-bit audio from the RODE to it!

So excited about these mics, they will be my next audio purchase to finally replace my old Sennheiser lavs. It will be nice to not have to rely on my bulky Zoom F3 for 32-bit float audio anymore. Great video!

Your my go-to for these types of reviews, using your link to order these bad boys right now. I do wish the receiver had (2) 3.5 jacks, so Rodes shotgun mics could also be plugged into it, as well as an output to camera. I personally have to leave the receiver and a shotgun on my camera all the time and I bounce back and forth a ton. Having a shotgun mic recording 32 bit as well as the 2 transmitters would make for very useful redundancy for my kind of work. Thanks

why do i have to have my gain all way up when using with my a7siii and have my sony audio set to 14. What settings do you use?
@TheEverythingMan
@TheEverythingMan Жыл бұрын
For all cameras the process should be transmitter gain all the way up to the max, have your camera levels to 1 or 2, then lower your receiver gain until the levels look about right, if you go all the way down with your receiver levels then start to drop your transmitter levels until they’re right. The quality comes from the mic first, receiver 2nd and camera last so you want the majority of the volume to come from the transmitter and then work your way down the chain. Or you can just use rode central and use the A7s3 preset

Hi Anthony, great video! Did you use the time code on your sony FX3 (seen in the video) and did it jam directly in the multi port? I want to use the wireless pro and jam sync my sonys and then have similar timecode Time of Day for in pros processing. I want to record audio on my camera and have a backup on the units in case (or when out of reach) and want to cut time sorting put the clips in the timeline (so use time code). Final syncing can be done by using the audio recorded. Anyway How did you jam sync the timecode to the Sonys?

How is the battery life on Rode stuff in the long run? We use Sennheiser G3/4s because we've used Sennheiser lavs with bullt in rechargeable batteries and found that they started losing battery life after a year or two. However, I hate that I constantly need Double A batteries with me plus never know when you need to change them and there's no way to have them charging while recording, ensuring that it doesn't die...

I really enjoy your Videos and presentation, so thanks. I also have the DJI Wireless Mic, and this is tempting for a few reasons but not enough for me to spend another £400. Maybe if I was full time like you perhaps, but I really like the DJI Mics and have the Action 4 and like you said, they work perfectly together. Is it me or does the Action 4 have a pretty amazing in built Mic anyway right?! I only really need the Wireless Mics for outside/wind noise etc .. I am pretty happy with the Mic already built in. Anyway going off topic! thanks again and keep up the good work !

I’m not sold on the time code. I think the diety TC-1 is just a safer option in order to keep everything in sync when you’re working with multiple cameras or audio sources. But, 32-bit float, screw-lock mic inputs, charging case…? So worth it. Glad to see someone outside of Rose’s review on this. Thanks man.

Receiver is lacking headphone port. Funny that Rode includes timecode connection for the camera but there is no way to monitor the audio during use of the timecode, camera operator will just have to wait for the playback, since timecode is already a lot of convenience. LoL

Did you test how good the signal is when a human body is between the transmitter and receiver? All the other little wireless Rode systems cut out if you put the pack on the side of the person that's away from the receiver. I can't trust them for weddings because of that.
@patrickfalls6819

Enable internal recording and you should be good. If you experience an interruption, sync the audio that is recorded inside the transmitter with the audio that is recorded into your camera via the receiver.

@@ChadWork1 Well, in the course of a year and a half and over 50 weddings using my Go IIs, I haven’t experienced what you are describing, but I was hoping to provide a solution to continue using what you have. Since the Rode GO II Pro is so new, and your situation is probably not common, you may have to purchase and experiment for yourself, and you will be guaranteed to have the answer to your question.

@@patrickfalls6819 I have professional UHF wireless units for critical jobs, but I've been waiting for one of these small wifi wireless units to have at least the same transmission power as the original Rode Filmmaker's kit. I'm not going to buy a wireless Pro to find out that if has the same issues as all the previous iterations. I'm sure someone will do the test. I get that it's hard to exploit the product's weakness when they give it to you for free. I used to do this for Rode, so I know how it goes.
