I must say, I use this for our Runic Radio, radio station for live broadcasts... And I must say... I LOVE IT! I use 2 banks, one for the radio IDs while songs are playing, and bank two for the segments headings... Usb to connect to the broadcasting software like BUTT or AUDIO HIJACK. So I use them to record in MP3 then upload them. That's how I get mp3s

Sorry if this is a dupe on your other video but here goes: I am thinking about purchasing this device and all the reviews and tutorials look great. My only question is with the 2.0 firmware update. I am unclear whether there exists an option to mute the speaker outputs automatically when enabling one of the mic channels. Coming from traditional radio, this is a standard feature on broadcast mixers so as to prevent feedback. It is also great as an indicator that the microphones are muted and hosts can hear commercials or music without necessarily wearing headphones.

Enjoyed the Video - VERY Informative! Couple of questions??? Is the Bluetooth Phone call capability Broadcast quality? Would it sound better through Squadcast / Zencastr / Zoom / Skype? Would I need to use @ Cloudlifter / Focusrite with this to send audio to my PC/DAW? How does the SM7B’s sound with this or is this designed to be used with Zoom Mics? Can you recommend a DAW that would work easy with this? Thanks! JT
@tombuck5 жыл бұрын
Hi JT! The Bluetooth phone option sounds very much like a phone. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t sound like someone is in the studio with you. Zoom or Skype will probably give a better quality result. The SM7B works great. You don’t need a cloud lifter, but it could help get a cleaner signal. This will take any XLR mic.

Looking to pick one of these up. New to podcasting and have been doing a ton of research of mixers/interfaces but you videos have me sold on this setup. Pretty pricey initial investment between the RODECaster Pro and a podmic but I feel the caster offers many features (like headphone preamp, etc) all in one sleek package. Big complaint I’m seeing on Reddit is EQ settings are apparently very on/off (pre 2.0 update). Is this the case still or has this update added more customizations on the user end (to adjust gain, etc).
@tombuck5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that’s still a bit of a weak point. The EQ is mostly on/off buttons, but it’s such a great tool that I wouldn’t let that deter you. And with the way they’re constantly updating it, there’s always a chance that might change on the future.
@GBDiaz135 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Thanks for the response! That's what I am hoping for with the updates. It seems that every time they release a new one, it addresses a lot of issues people had. But if my podcast sounds anything how your audio quality sounds, I'll be very content. Other than the necessary cables, SD, and a computer, you're just running the Caster and a Mic, correct? Keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos and they're very resourceful

Hi Tom, about what you still missing, the possibility to have all recordings immediately on an SD card as MP3 file? I have a potentially helpful tip for you: You have a ZOOM Handy H4n Recorder, right? I also have a ZOOM Handy H4n Recorder, so I know that you can have this ZOOM Handy H4n Recorder recorded directly in MP3 format. My tip now is: Plug an audio cable into the stereo output of your Rode Caster Pro, and plug the end of this audio cable into the audio input of your ZOOM Handy H4n Recorder and the ZOOM Handy H4n Recorder lets you record directly in MP3, after you can then immediately upload your MP3 file with the SD card. And with that you also have a Backup as a PM3 file.

@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Not long after this, there was an option added to the Companion App that lets you convert files to mp3 when importing to the computer. It works really well.

It doesn't record a native MP3, but it will let you transfer the file as an MP3 if you're using the Companion App on your computer.

Question, if I connect this to my DAW, and use it as a computer interface, recording the tracks individually, are my recordings post processing or preprocessing? Will I still get the functionality of mixed minus for phone calls?
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
I have only connected it to a DAW a few times, but in my experience I’ve used it as a single source, so the computer records whatever mix is coming from the main output (if that makes sense).
@ashleymadison93804 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Yes, it makes sense however I do not want to record it as a single source I need multi-track files for each input. I'm sure that the device acts as a sound input card showing multiple inputs, I just need to know if it records preprocessing or post processing. Also, thanks for the videos. :-)

@@tombuck Hi Tom. Thanks for the lighting fast reply!! Do you know if it's possible to connect directly to a camera ( I currently use a canon 80D) using the external microphone jack on the camera from one of the headphone Jack's on the rodecaster?
@tombuck5 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried it myself, but I’ve wondered about it. I totally broke a camera as a kid by plugging the wrong microphone into it, and now I’m nervous to attempt things like this. 😬
@MarkYoungMedia5 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck I hear you on that one! I've dug a little deeper and it seems it's not that straightforward connecting directly into a mic socket of a camera as there is interference noise, but it could be possible going from the monitor L/R output of the rodecaster (using a 2 x 6.35mm jack into 1 x 3.5mm jack cable), through a ground loop isolator then into the mic socket of the camera. I'll be picking up a rodecaster in a few weeks and I'll definitely be trying a few ways to connect it to the Canon! Thanks for the chat Tom, and still love the channel 👍👍👍👍

Ok. Checking the Rodecaster options settings etc. I have found a problem with my unit. Mic 2 input level is 10 numbers or db whatever the mic settings indicate below mic 1,3 and 4. I set all mics at the same settings, same input level, 25,. To hit the level I want when I speak, mic 2 input level has to be at 35. Anyone else having this issue? I would be contacting Rode for this Tomorrow 10/20/2019.

I called RODE and they confirmed that there was something wrong with the unit so I got a replacement. I suggest everyone test everything on the Roadecaster Pro as soon as you get it.

I thought the Rodecaster was a great machine until we got one and found I HAD to have a Windows 10 machine or a Mac to run updates. Our studio is fully Windows 7 for a lot of reasons. To force us to "upgrade" to windows 10 just for updates (no, you CANT run updates from the SD card - WHY NOT?), we felt, was absurd. We returned the device. For a supposed "stand-alone" system this was a deal breaker.

If you don’t mind me asking, what gain do you have it set to using the podmic. I noticed when running the noise gate it likes to cut my voice out. Second issue I’m having is mic bleed with my cohost. Trying to work it out and play with the settings. Last issue, are you noticing the volume being low when running to Audition? I’m running usb no microsd, and I feel I have to bump up the volume in Audition. Any suggestions?
@tombuck5 жыл бұрын
I might be able to help with a few of your issues. 1. I have the gain set around 35 for my voice and it works out pretty well. 2. Bleed is tricky, so I would just suggest that you’re each as close to the mics as possible when talking. 3. I haven’t had any issues with Audition, but I don’t record via USB very often, so I’m probably not a good source on that one. Hope that helps at least a little!
