I totally agree with that railing mount system.they need to redesign it.and make it sturdy.

100% agree on the comment of people rattling on about how having anything on the kick drum does "this that and that and the other OMG shutter!" to the "resonance"- then they put a pillow and a muffled batter head on it.

Yeah! Unless they're in the studio and listening to an isolated track, I'll wager they couldn't tell the difference between a mounted or a virgin bass drum; and maybe not even then!

What a refreshing review. I also like the simplicity of your setup and letting the bass drum earn its board and lodging.

Ringo had a rail mount, but like other British drummers, they customized their tom holders using the Rogers Swiv-O-Matic mounts.

Great video Richard. I`m considering adding a rail to my Ludwigs and was thinking of the Gibraltar, but youre right with the dw one being better bang for the money. I have the Gibraltar cymbal mount already too. It's great aestheticly and saves me a lot of carry weight for a seperate stand. I`ve never had any issues with it sliding in the mount whilst playing to be honest and I play a 24" ride cymbal.

It's goddamn refreshing to hear another drummer minimizing as much as possible, and just wants to set up as quickly as possible. Great video. Aside from the snare, hi-hat, and throne stands, if I can have no stands at all, that's the way for me! I just got the new Gibraltar stealth docking station. I wish that just the U-bar could be permanently attached to the bass drum (the whole station to be memorized). Ya know... sorta like the rail, but just a tad longer. My ride, 2 crashes, and toms are all mounted in this one space. I LOVE it!! It's all good, though. Hey, just a thought... if the dw and Gibraltar rail is the same thickness, you could use the dw for the grip fir the rest of the Gibraltar. 😃

I know it's been a while since you did this, but I was wondering how solid this is because I've seen a video showing the Inde mount that you mentioned below and it looks like the tom is bouncing quite a bit as it's being played.

Thanks for making this comparison! I have the Gibraltar on my 22" bass drum and love it, never missed any memory locks to be honest and the mount stays perfectly on the rail without tilting ... But wow, the pricepoint of 55$ in the US surprised me, in Germany you'll have to pay nearly double. Also the DW rail is a bit cheaper here, but not much. Unfortunately the Gibraltar rail does not seem to fit on an 18" bass drum, do you know something about that? And may I ask you for the minimum and maximum holespacing of the mounting screws of the DW rail? It's possible to adjust the screw's distance to taste, am I right? This would be a great help! I'm builing a set with an 18° bass drum and already ordered another Gibraltar rail ... but now found out that the possibility is quite high it won't work on the bassdrum. So let's hope the DW will do ... unless I like the look and features of the Gibraltar a bit more. Cheers!

@@RichardBonaduce Yes, the indé stuff seems to be very cool, lightweight and innovative. I definitely keep them in mind. At the moment they are not available at re-sellers in Germany. i noticed u have the bass drum ride extention. when u use a bigger ride like 22 inch does up bass drum pedal not vibrate?
@RichardBonaduce11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean, but I'm going to take a guess... By "bass drum ride extention" do you mean that I've mounted my ride cymbal off of the bass drum? Then, yes I did..! And by "does up bass drum pedal not vibrate?", do you mean that when I play the bass drum, doesn't it cause a sympathetic vibration with either the ride and/or my tom (which I also have mounted from the bass drum).., if that's what you mean, then sure it does! A tiny bit, yes. But since I'm not in a studio with isolation and mics all over, it doesn't matter to me. The convenience outweighs and minute sympathetic vibration my bass drum confers to things mounted to it.
