Does anyone know what the difference between the NETGEAR R6700AX and NETGEAR R6700AXS is? I'm looking on Amazon and it looks like the R6700AX & R6700AXS are identical but the R6700AXS includes a 1-year of NETGEAR armor and the R6700AX does not. The R6700AX sells for $120, but funny enough the R6700AXS is selling for $75 right now. I'm either missing something or there is a hell of a deal going right now where you can get the R6700AX for $45 less and a free year of their security.

I live in a dorm too. You don’t need a modem. Just plug the router into the ethernet jack in the wall.

Okay I don't understand why you were getting only half the speed when you were connecting directly from the phone to the router without the extender? But yet with the extender you were getting twice the speed. Which seems like it would be backwards. Am I missing something?

The extender would be in the middle between the router and phone. So it would provide a better signal and throughput if it’s working correctly.

Yeah. Just setup this exact router. Can't finish the setup as the app is claiming "cable not connected". Everything is plugged in correctly. Came here for a solution but I'm not seeing a good fix.

I have a 1 gigabyte spectrum modem that says 2.5 on the LAN. When I connect this router to it the internet won’t connect? I keep getting the same messages that there’s a network connection issue, the Ethernet cable isn’t connected (when it is) and that my modem needs to be power cycled (when I’ve already done that multiple times) Do I need a different router? I can’t connect to nighthawk without the internet

I’m having consistently fast speeds and low pings with the router, as long as I’m within its signal range. For the areas it doesn’t reach, I added the mesh extender (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZKllY2VZct_Z9U) and it works as well. So long as you have good internet and good signal from the router, it should work fine.

Stay away from Netgear if you have Comcast/Xfinity! Days wasted on the phone! three different Netgear WiFi gateways, including orbi, will not stay connected and EX7000 extender doesn't work with Comcast gateway.

Do you HAVE to use the app? My dad's pulling his hair out because the wifi works, and the app can see all our devices, but the computers (connected via ethernet) cannot see the router and do not get internet.

You can use the web based client. Find out what the local IP is from the router. Something like 192.168.1.1 will get you to the web based settings. But if a computer is connected via Ethernet it should just work…

As long as the mesh extender doesn’t have any exclusions, it should work fine. I’ve used the NETGEAR mesh extender with a TP-Link router no problem.
