This guy is honestly so humble. I've met I've met plenty of smaller DP's that have worked on shorts and some features and some of them are just dicks. So up themselves and are trying to be the greatest. But when Roger here was like "I cant light like the greats" and you're sitting there like, bruh you are one of the greats ahaha

His cinematography in "Prisoners" inspired me so much.

out of all the cinematographers I hear in these interviews and lectures... Deakins seems like the most laid back and chill one. He doesn't really bother with the expected traditions of how to light stuff, it's more "does it suit the scene? Ok then". And I'm guessing it's one of the reasons good directors seem to like working with him.

was watching the B-roll from "Skyfall" and I see this grey-haired cameraman, wrestling an ARRI while driving a motorcycle through a pedestrian market 15 feet behind Bond on another motorcycle -- it's Deakins doing his own CO.

As an amateur photographer, I can tell you that this guy is a genius. I have learned so much about lighting by just watching the movies he's been involved with.

Watched him speak about 10 times and always surprised by how down to earth and generous Roger is. What a class act!

I like this man. "I just light the way I like". I think that's what separates us. That's what makes us unique. Yes we have principles but it's an individual art. That's why we know Roger did certain films.

Why don't you cut up the interview a bit more? Also, did the interviewer know it was going on? Perhaps he might tactically mic himself so the question might actually be heard. This whole little series from MAINE Film Festival is CRAP!

@@johnhanle4528Yeah, damn right! What is this calming and genuineness feeling about? 🙄 Have, instead, four camera angles, repeated bursts of short cuts, and insert one or two explosions for maximum effect.
