Mr. DeCoster WAS my Hero as a young boy who Loved Motocross! It was a Pure Thrill to watch Him Master His MUDDY-Craft, a True Legend, & I Kept all my Dirt Bike Magazines he was in! As that last feller said, He is a god of Motorcross!!! 🤙🏼👊🏼🇺🇸👊🏼

He was my inspiration as a motorcycle rider when I was a 12 year old kid. Total class act and a great ambassador for motorcyclists and Suzuki. Envisioned myself as being Roger on my Suzuki 50.

One of my favorite memories is seeing Roger and Heikki Mikola (sp?) banging bars at Honda Hills just east of Columbus Ohio. Fantastic track. Loved racing there. So so good.

When the DT1 came out, I scoffed. I was basically a Bultaco rider and later on OSSA then Suzuki. Years later, doing some recycling work for a salvage operation, I got a DT1 engine to break down and I was surprised at how well it was engineered and how rugged it was.

I got a DT 3 whe I got my drivers license. Loved it , road it to school and to the track and trails. Wish I had kept it. They’re like gold now.

I have a cousin who is now 70 that owned a Yamaha DT-1 Enduro with a white gasoline tank. I bet he wishes he still owned that museum piece. 😊❤

Saw Roger de Coster (along with Joel Robert in 1972 at Calder in Victoria (Australia) in an International Motocross series. Great event. I believe he was given the nickname Roger de Foster because of his fondness for the amber fluid!

Gosh, that takes me back to the 80’s. I used to go and see the Mr Motocross series with Stephen Gall YZ400 and Anthony Gunter RM370 at Tivoli QLD. Think DeCoster/ Mike Bell came out about that time for a round of Worlds (or exhibition) that I saw somewhere in Brisbane…. Pretty lengthy career DeCoster had when you consider the injury rate!!!

The old bikes with 6 inches of travel were made for old tracks. When one of these bikes is restored and ridden on the modern tracks you find out real quick how obsolete they are. I rode the old bikes and later restored one. It would bottom out and beat you to death on the new tracks. We romance the past riders and pioneers of the sport and rightfully so. I bought a book on how to ride by Roger Decoster. He is a true legend. But motocross then compared to now is like night and day.

Saw Him first in 1975,Casale Monferrato, meta Him in Genova Bavari MXVcircuit(testing RIBI front forks)and come near my Home(Genova) for meeting with Engineer Valentino Ribi and again in Genova 's MX Indoor, December 1982.Great Gentleman and Humble Person. He made me feeling good, as I was the real Champion. Thank You, Mr. De Coster.

As a kid I didnt race motocross but rather was into desert racing, so we always idolized our favorite desert racers. But Decoster was still a legend and I did have the Schwinn Roger Decoster edition BMX bike for cruising around the neighborhood with my friends. I won many wheelie competitions aginst my friends on that thing!

I got to see Roger at the Trans-AMA in Tulsa in 71. I’d been racing for 4 years then, first scrambles then motocross. Roger is sill in the game, now director of team KTM.

I won a race on a '75 YZ360B , in the classic scrambles. Had some time off and switched to a KX500 ' Brand new bike' in '99 . Never won a race on the green bike. Too much power and not much fun on the shorter MX tracks Still got it in my shed. Thanks for the video.

The first year they came out we watched a demo across from the dealership where it was ridden up a 20 foot tall boulder and down the other side. 😮that was amazing to kids used to street scramblers!!

There must be a great documentary on Roger......l have to find it. I was riding small bikes in the 80s when l was a kid but my dad got an 83 4stroke 250 yamaha when l was 9 or 10 and l couldnt stand up with it so dad had to hold it up while l got on and started riding and when l stopd he had to do the same thing obviously but lve never had a brand new bike. The closest to new was in 2002 l got a 2000 ktm 250 sx 2 stroke. And l loved that bike more than any others id had before. But im ultra nostalgic about the bikes l had growing up. My best friend l rode with had a screaming eagle.....a 97 cr 250 with the aluminum frame which l hate aluminum frames. Too rigid for me. But he also had a 94 or 93 YZ 500 . Back when tney were pink. Now that bike was so comfortable.....the seat was like the softest bed ever and the suspension was amazing. So it was already 10 years old when he got it but it just never stopd pulling. Full disclosure....l have never rode any other 500s and lve never rode a 450 4stroke. Rode or ridden......im not sure which is the proper word but anyways. My whole life.....nothing has ever excited me like riding a dirtbike and to this day that still stands true.

DeCoster was one of the best ever. Quite possibly the GOAT. Hard to say with the technology today. I would ride my Honda Elsinore for 30 minutes and would be beat to shit. I could go further, but I'd be slower.

In league with Roger was Joel Robert who rode 250s. Joel's physique was so perfectly matched to riding motocross. He used minimal effort from sit-to-stand on a machine and was so strong and quick. I rode two meetings during the Trans-AMA '67 tour (sponsored by Edison Dye, Husqvarna importer) with Joel and Roger who we had supper with on one evening with the promoter in Sedan, Ks. Dave Bickers was the third CZ team rider that year and they were amiable fellas to talk shop with.

I saw Roger race twice at the AMA Winter Nationals at the Orlando Sport's Stadium track...i am going to guess it was '70 and '71 or possibly '71/'72...it looked like man against boys. He was definitely above the Americans at that time.

Watching this and wandering if the legend Nicky Hayden ran #69 paying homage to the legend Roger or was he just being a silly kid. @@bultacowally The RMs were a whole different bike.I started on a TM 125 in the novice class in the 70s.There were still some Texas guys who could go fast on the 400s and didn't get hurt.

CZ, Husqvarna, Maico, and Suzuki bikes were all specially made for motocross by the factories. Yamaha did stretch the DT1 engine to fit their needs but it's relationship to the enduro engine faded away in a few seasons.
