The thing about federer is that he plays too fast, especially in his prime. In order to beat him, you have to play on slower surfaces(clay, some slow hardcourts), so that you have time to adjust and make changes to his playing style. Its hard to do it on faster courts. Now there are two factors that play a role in his unbeatable style, his speed and the court speed. Post his prime(2012 at max), he slowed down but tried to compensate something with the larger frame size, still wasnt close to his prime best but still good. Now this was good enough against most of the ATP tour but when you are playing against someone(djoker) who literally built themselves to tackle prime fed and prime nadal, an out of prime fed cant take him on even though he is still better than most of the other top 10 players. That was basically the story post 2012, prime fed ended there in terms of speed, but peak fed ended much earlier. His game has a clear weakness, the backhand(compared to solid two handers) and he is not a physical player, just a very efficient player. His peak only lasted for like 5-6 years because his game heavily relied on his speed, always taking the ball early.

Thank you very much for such an elaborate comment. Backhand proved achiles heel for Federer specially against Nadal on clay court. Successive defeats in the hands of Nadal dented Fed confidence badily and his streak of clear run faced major setback. Had he not found Nadal, Fed would have much more in his career…2009 US open final, 2011,12 semi final US open, Wimbledon 2017 against djoker were major setbacks….i always used to watch Fed matches and he used to finish so quickly either way but matches of djoker/ nadal used to last so long and at times got boring….it will be difficult to find big 3 with such a consistency would be difficult to find in near future
