Ya know Roger is another level when he can take a black belt, regardless of how good he really is and just make him look mediocre. That guy was going crazy, while Roger was just chillin, barely breathing, and sweeping him whenever he wanted. Roger is ridiculous, his game is so simple and technical, yet there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it. He literally hit moves you learn as a white belt, on a someone that’s a black belt and knows what’s coming and still cannot defend against it. Crazy.

Wouldve loved to see Roger compete some in this current era. 2018 to now feels totally different. Lot of good match up gi and nogi. Hard to think somebody so good just stop having the bug to compete at all
@James-io7jl
@James-io7jl Жыл бұрын
He would get wrecked in no GI. The game is based on leg locks and leg entanglements. If you aren’t at a very high level with those then People like Gordon, Craig Jones, Giles would wreck him. He’s a legend but the game especially in no GI is wayyyy different
@Danjr704
@Danjr704 Жыл бұрын
@@James-io7jl yeah but most of those competitors look amateur if they cannot get a leg lock. Aside from Gordon, it seems like anyone that solely goes for leg locks, never win anything big, because that’s all they go for. Gordon is so well rounded (and on steroids) that he has the ability to attack from various positions, so if leg attacks fail, he’ll switch to whatever. I think Roger would still do well in Gi and NoGi, especially if he can shutdown leg attacks. I just think that because he’s off steroids and not actively competing and making good money from seminars, private lessons, instructionals, and his gym, he has no reason to compete.

@@Danjr704 I think Roger's legs are too long and lanky to stand much of a chance in today's fast leg-lock game. I think Gordon ryan would slaughter him as he does to almost everyone else: too big, strong, skilled, and slick. Without leg-locks I think Roger beats everyone today except Ryan but it would be close. I hate leg-locks now as they have made BJJ so boring to watch and a different animal.

@@seetsamolapo5600 nogi yes Gordon would beat him now. In the Gi no one gets close to him. But do remember Danaher always refers to Roger as the goat and he has coached both athletes, they are both from different eras nogi bjj was very different when Roger was competing. if Roger was in his prime now he would for sure have a more modern nogi style with heel hooks ect and my money would be on Roger over Gordon

I dont understand what took out the guy on tops base of support from his left leg at 1:15 Roger has a pendulm motion from his outside (would be his knee shield), a grip stuffing the guy on tops right hand, and an overback belt grip. Anyone know how such a wide base got popped over?
@coryscook91
@coryscook91 Жыл бұрын
now that im watching it looks like the belt grip and pendulm where used to pull back, bringing center of gravity way forward. kind of in a way you would try to off balance a scissor sweep that wasn't budging. perhaps that made him lighter for the push over.

Are you asking why he couldn't finish the reverse armbar or why didnt he transition to a regular armbar? If you look at Roger's thumb/wrist he's keeping it perpendicular to the direction his opponent is trying to crush. Normally to finish this variationyou'd need to pressure the elbow into upward rotation with your arm, shoulder and lock it into place with your head, and you'd need to pivot and cut an angle to do so, which roger appears to be preventing him from doing.
@etagged
