As a pet owner i cant get my head arount anyone doing this to a beautiful animal that has been part of their lives for 9 years. Their actions, or more, lack of, were heartless to say the least. Roger was blessed to have you when he needed you most even if it was only for a short time. May you be blessed for the love and compassion that you freely gave to him. It was a beautiful tribute to have the tattoo done for him and to have his ashes included.. He will always be with you and you should carry no guilt over what happened as none of it was your fault and may even have been the better outcome for him. I know that sounds terrible but as i was sitting here thinking about it, and have over 50 yrs of experience caring for animals myself, i was thinking about Roger and his self soothing and it reminded me of the separation trauma many animals go through when they've been taken away from their family who they've been with for many years. It makes me wonder how happy Roger really may have been even if he had survived and no matter whether he came to love you too. He, in all liklihood, may have never gotten over being abandoned by the home that had been his life for 9 yrs. So take heart when you think of him and know that in the end he wasnt abandoned, he was loved with a pure love which he deserved to have and he wasn't alone.💕

I've only been following your videos for a short time but I can see how much you care for your bears and the others at your shelter. I'm so sorry for Roger's passing. Hindsight is a curse sometimes... you just didn't see the signs, please try not to torture yourself. I wish something could've been different for Roger. You truly did take care of him and you were there for him. You asked his people to do the better care for him but they didn't. There are large parts of this you had no control over. It's terribly sad, I love my dogs and cats like my family,... like my life and I can see you have the same strong attachment to your fur bear-babies. Please take care of yourself in this time of grief.

I worked for an animal rescue for a time. You really get to see the incompetency and cruelty at it finest, not only from owners, but some vets, and even rescue workers. I personally adopted a few rescues. One is a disabled python. She has a genetic disorder due to breeding practices. When I got her, she seemed to have vertigo. She would corkscrew herself and was not eating. After 3 years of working with her, she is now a regular eater and no longer corkscrew. It is rewarding to see an animal thrive. Thank you for all you do with these lovely animals. The world needs more people like you! I will be seeking to donate to you and your cause. ❤

Didn't expect it to get that sad honestly... I wasn't sure what I expected. I was sympathetic to the "family" that surrendered him because sometimes babies and pets don't mix. (Not what I would do, but I can see the reasoning). HOWEVER! Not listening to the directions on what to do before bringing him, that were FOR HIS HEALTH! That part is where I just could not. I can totally understand rehoming an animal or pet if you can no longer give them the care and love they need.. But straight up abandoning and neglecting them?!? After 9 YEARS?!? I feel bad if I have to stop petting a dog I just met... I couldn't even imagine just leaving one I've had for 9 years like that. It's especially heartbreaking that they could just throw away a 9 year long relationship/bond, and then just go no contact. .... honestly I'd be concerned about the kid.. like what if after 3 years they have another, and just decide they don't like the first one that much anymore? I just can't understand those types of people

You did everything right and as best as you could possibly do. Roger was soooo blessed to pass away in your arms …I’m just so sorry sweetheart that it had to happen but it definately was not your fault. I was just telling someone about you the other day and sharing your vids with people because what you do is soooo BEAUTIFUL - You are a very special, kind, caring loving and forgiving soul that’s why it’s hard for you to understand how some people can be so cold. This coldness is seen in every field, the worst being how children have been abused and unalived ( not my word choice ) so humanity itself seems to be on the spectrum ( I don’t mean autism ) and some people are far more human than others with you being near the angelic realm. God, some people are so absolutely disgusting. I know youre trying to leave open the idea that the family is "preoccupied" but there's no excuse for how they disregarded the life of another living being like that. After nearly a decade, attachment and love is formed. I highly doubt they cared about him during that time and its a miracle he was surrendered even though the way it occurred was tragic. You are in no way at fault. Roger is at peace and those of us supporting you know the truth about that "family". They just didn't care.

Im in tears, im so sorry, i had this recently happen to my fiv cat. I brought him to a 'cheaper vet' because i literally brought this poor guy back from deaths door and healthy....when she overdosed him with antibiotics and prednisone. I can feel and hear your hurt inside. She was surprised that my friend told her that he had passed away. But obviously didn't really care. Endless, sleepless nights of getting him so healthy and being loved, wasted, im sorry, but im in tears also.😭 Just keep saving and loving these sweet babies. Roger's story is bittersweet, sounds like he was a trophy if they could wash their hands of him so quickly. You gave him the love that he probably had been lacking & reunited him with his brother. I am glad you are being open, raw and sharing Roger’s story. So many only show the “fun” of animal rescue/rehab…….but people need to see the heaviness & hurt that we carry when we “fail”. And I say that NOT because I believe you failed Alex, but because I know that’s how you feel…..every single time we lose one, even if we’ve only had them a few hours, we feel like failures. The truth is, we didn’t fail them…..humanity failed them and if nothing else, we provide a warm, comfy place for them to cross with someone that truly loved them unconditionally holding their paw. I know that life changes can make a conflict of having pets but you have to take into account that these animals look to you for safety and family, there HAS to be a better way of planning your life than taking on another life to care for, having them for years, deciding you want kids and just getting rid of that first life.

I think that they just got him because he was someone that they could show off to their friends (probably horrible people as well, birds of a feather flock together). They obviously didn't care for him as where were they when he needed them most 😡😠😾

Surrendering an animal when you can no longer take care of it for whatever reason is the responsible and compassionate thing to do, but it sounds like that was the only act of true love that those people ever did for Roger. Giving up a beautiful animal after nine years and just not responding, not wanting to hear about him, not caring at all once he was out of their hands? They were never Roger’s family, they were just the people he lived with. You told them the best course of action for getting him neutered (which is insane that they didn’t do that YEARS ago) and giving him a good recovery so he could come to your care as quick as possible. They didn’t care and they didn’t listen. You picked him up when he should have been recovering in a familiar environment he felt comfortable in and took him in instantly because he needed someone who actually cared about him. The former owners went radio silent because they didn’t care about him. You noticed he was unwell and took him to an actual proper vet to figure out what was wrong. The former owners paid for none of his care. You showed him compassion and love by breaking your own heart and choosing to give him the mercy of peace when it became clear that he wasn’t able to recover. The former owners didn’t care and asked not to be updated on the animal they gave away. You gave him love during the last weeks of his life and you’re carrying the grief of losing him in your heart while you wait for him to be returned to his true home. The former owners had already moved on. The pain you showed in this video clearly reflects the deep love you have for Roger and the rest of your animal family. I’m so sorry it turned out this way, but you did everything you could with the bad hand you and Roger were dealt. You fought for him with true love and compassion and that’s the best kind of person to have on your side, which Roger undoubtedly knew. Thank you for your love and thank you for sharing your pain.

I'm so sorry, what a traumatic experience this has been for you. I don't know how people can be so cold hearted! I'm new to your channel (like today) I had no idea what a Kinkajou was. They have so much personality that I fell in love with them immediately! I would never take one in myself because I know I would not be able to care for it. No one should take an animal without doing the research and knowing 100% that they can care for their new family member, especially an exotic pet.

I feel bad liking this video because I don't like what happened to him and I usually don't like any videos ever (very rarely) but I know it helps for more people to see the video and that's what I want as many people to see this as possible to try and bring awareness. I just found Alex a few days ago and this broke my heart made me cry. People don't get a pet because they are cute babies they grow up and usually your not ready for what comes with a grown wild animal!!!!! Watch as many videos as possible ones like Alex makes to show you the reality the good and the bad that comes with getting an animal. You need to educate yourself before getting any type of animal so you know what your getting yourself into.

I don't get ppl who get rid of animals when they have a baby. I feel like that can be a precious bond. I am so excited to have babies and have my soul dog there with me. I empathise, and unfortunately understand all too well. I am so sorry that people are consistently disappointing, selfish and cruel. It's important to share this information, as vets and rescuers have some of the highest rates of breakdown and suicide. Too many babies out there need you, so stay strong, and continue your amazing work! I am wondering if a necropsy was done? I would want to see if his neuter was responsible or influenced his condition.
