It's true that he's being opportunistic, I mean, he doesn't have to express he opinion on this particular matter becaase as a whole, he said we all need to know about his standpoint about what an ideal world is for him. We all know he lost his father in WWII, he made it clear what he thinks about materialism and modern life on Dark side of the moon, etc etc. It's falling a bit low using the flavour-controversy of the year for his current tour.

Interesting enough interview, but is anybody REALLY going to go to a Roger Waters concert expecting escapism? Outside of the Syd Barrett era, I can't really think of any Pink Floyd albums that would be considered "Pure escapism." "Money", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "Sheep," "Another Brick in the Wall," "Run Like Hell," ... these aren't exactly happy-go-lucky songs. That's why they're all amazing!

Yeah they really weren't, I do feel like Dark Side of the Moon had escapist type elements in it and that was awhile after Syd Barrett's departure... Honestly I am a big fan of Barrett era Floyd because it was so cosmic and pondering. Even the hits like See Emily Play and Arnold Layne had a very strange spatial undertone to them. I really think Dark Side of the Moon is a mixture of escapism and reality, because you get a song like Time that is very fearful within the lyrics and it breaks into Great Gig in the Sky which is a very transcendent sounding song. When I listen to that album I get goosebumps because it is so perfect. That album is fucking incredible. Also Any Colour You Like has to be one of the greatest instrumental tracks on any album ever.

Whether you agree with Roger Waters or not, what i do like about him is that he isnt scared to speak out against issues that are close to his heart. Too many famous musicians or actors would be scared to speak their views in public for fear of it jeopordising their careers or even the hassle of coming under fire from people. Roger has the bravery and confidence to speak his mind. For that i applaud him. For the record i wouldnt support Hilary or Donald Trump, A: because i dont live in the U.S.A and B: I think its all rigged, whoever gets in, big business wins and the system stays the same, anyone who did want to make changes that benefited all would never ever get voted in to power. @Ryan Hopkins I understand what you're saying Ryan, but I still stand by what I said. When I can't find a late night show to watch because the focus of the show is political rather than entertainment, and that's not what I tuned in for, then they are not doing what they have been paid to do (and yes, we are indirectly paying for them to appear/perform.) If you hired a plumber to come to your house to plumb, I think you would send him on his way if he didn't do what you hired him to do. HALF of the audience does not agree with you or Roger Waters. I just don't understand why you don't understand my complaint. I indirectly know one Hollywood person that if I mentioned his name you and most others would recognize him. He understands the Hollywood underworld and keeps his mouth shut because he knows otherwise he would be black balled. Do you think that is fair? So that's why I stand by my comment. More folks like you Ryan need to understand just how unfair this is and be more willing to be fair minded and understand our frustrations. Regardless of what you think, personally I think the president (despite his personality) isn't doing such a bad job. After all, our other choice was Hillary. Now maybe you think she's wonderful but I believe she is a wicked and horrible person. So what exactly has this discussion between you and I proved... nothing. So, back to my original comment, let these people perform, not insult half of their audience by their opinions that we did not pay for. I'm sure you are a nice person and well intentioned, so that's why I (as you have) have taken the time to elaborate and respond to your response. I suspect you and I would be friends because we both really care about our country. Kindest regards, -Keith
@letsgobrandon13274 жыл бұрын
It's nice to see decent people debating in a smart and polite way. And I believe you're both right in a way... Yes, politics is part of life and art, but the real beauty in art is the subjectivity. You can listen to The Wall and attribute your own perception about meaning. You may say it's about deep state, govern, far left, far right... But when an artist say what you suppose to understand, they remove the most amazing part of the art. I still love Pink Floyd albums, and even as a conservative person, it's not the fact that Waters is a hippie that makes me sad, but the activism he's doing through his music... Maybe I'm wrong, but we're already divided in so many ways, would be good to be united at least in entertainment. Sorry about my terrible English, I'm Brazilian so it's not my main language.

He's refusing to take a cognitive test to see if he's fit for office, which he isn't. Who said Trump was a deity? He could have retired if he wanted to, but came into politics to make America great again. He secured the southern border, made the US energy independent with the pipeline, he built bridges with former "enemies" including N.Korea and Russia, and no wars were started under Trump, which is very rare for a US president. He negotiated peace deals with Israel and its enemies, he fulfilled Operation Warpspeed in getting the Covid vaccine to the market place as quickly as possible (whether you think the vaccine is safe is another subject). Trump had record numbers in employment including record numbers of ethnic minorities in employment, he was tough on China on with trade deals, unlike demented Biden, who along with his son, is a puppet for the Chinese Communist Party. Since demented Biden got in, Marxist cancel culture is rampant along with big tech censorship and freedom of speech is being threatened, and there is chaos at the southern border with drug barons and human traffickers freely entering America from Mexico, and the pipeline has been cancelled which has cost thousands of jobs. Energy dependency for the US is now on dependant on Russia, with Biden saying "Putin is a killer". So much for diplomacy. Trump could be assertive with any global leader without making any silly comments like that. 2020 was the biggest mistake the US ever made. The election was invalid anyway because the Dems used the excuse of Covid to send out over 100 million "mail in" ballots, which is against the US Constitution because the Legislators weren't involved in making the decision to change the electoral rules. 2020 was a very sad day for the US but this was just a temporary setback. We'll be back in 2024 with a conservative, Republican, AND a Christian president. 🇺🇲 Regarding Roger Waters, he slags off a capitalist system that he's done very well out of (he's worth 135 million dollars). I wonder how much of his wealth Waters has redistributed to the poor. Waters is just another champagne socialist who doesn't practice what he preaches. Waters no doubt made even more money under Trump which he was glad to accept. Notice, after 2 years of Trump's presidency, Waters went on record as saying that he "understood why people voted for Trump". A very different quote was used before Trump came to office. After 4 years of Trump's presidency I think even Waters could see Trump did a great job for America.

I LOVED HIS SHOW!!! He's going to reach the good educated people anyways since he's a genius anyways. I was surprised about his great turn out in Dallas. His response to this guys bs was perfect and exactly what I thought he'd say. If you were ever a real fan then you shouldn't be surprised.
@pjetrs6 жыл бұрын
Not that I don't agree with you, but maybe that is one of the problems we are facing; that the good educated people have the chance to enlighten themselves with different perspectives, whereas the working class can't afford it and is being fed with bullshit. What my impression is of the politics today, is that the highly educated liberal-left millenials are feeling that they have a cultural superiority, where they just get frustrated and angry at anyone from a 'lower class' or 'the opposition' to see things differently. The main reason why Clinton thought she was winning and lost is because these people just are not capable of seeing the world outside their own liberal safe space. There are alternatives to Trump, but they need to show that they care about the blue collar workers and people who see income security as a higher priority than unisex toilets. Arrogance kills democracy.

Something that I have noticed is that musicians like Rogers Waters are getting older. but they are not showing any signs of slowing down. in fact they seem like they are enjoying what they are doing quite a bit more now. I noticed this same thing with Roger Hodgson of Supertramp. it seems like they are really happy to give their fans their great gift of music. maybe it's something to do with maturity. whatever it is I'm glad to see them still performing this music from my generation. the music that I grew up with. I don't want to see it go away after all I can't hack today's music. this was the best music ever hand's down. now that I have said that I have to say I have a seething hatred for Trump. and normally I don't hate anyone. but what he has done to this Country is unexecptable on every level. from the half million lives lost. to the insurection and more and with no consideration for anyone but himself. so I agree with Roger Waters I don't have any problem with what he says since he is absolutely correct. so I say to him keep up the good work. and thanks for all the great music you have given us.

"If you want to live in an ivory tower/and you need to build walls--" Everyone is an enemy? coming from the man who wanted to isolate himself behind a wall after the Animals tour. He took the stance that everyone was an enemy and it got him kicked out of Pink Floyd. This man gobbed into a fan's face while the fan was only paying strict attention... Take into account that the man "worked his way through his demons with his art", I'll grant him that much. But don't contradict yourself while you speak of empathy with Us and Them and then build The Wall to isolate yourself in order to slap the audience in the face yet again while entertaining them in disguise. I lose respect for people who's rhetoric follows the direction of the wind. Waters may have been a rebel in school - so was I - but today he appears to have learned to turn where the flag is blown. When Pink Floyd became famous, I was 15 or 16 - a bloody amateur. My favorite was "great gig in the sky" but little did I know how they tricked Clare Torry. To become and remain successful in politics you need to seize opportunities for money - you need to play the corruption game like a song and you are doomed if you don't. If I have to select between Roger or Jesse Waters I'd go with the latter and enjoy the songs of the first.

@@TuckFrump-r9h All that I was saying was, people moved to the USA to start businesses, and live in a country that supported a flourishing economy originally. The left party of the USA stands for many anti free business practices, and believe me I know because I own a mid size business here. Now, many entrepreneurs find themselves seriously questioning leaving the USA to start or continue their business elsewhere, and we have the means necessary to do so. People like Waters moves the the USA, is given the right to vote, and changes policy towards socialism, and politically "economically speaking" to where Britain was when my ancestors left there in the 1700's

@@triquepersonalwork6369 I have been self-employed in the US for 30+ years and there ARE certain things that SHOULD BE "socialized" - healthcare and education primarily. These things SHOULD NOT BE centers of profit. They are fundamental rights that should come with citizenship. Capitalism is fine and would not excluded by these measures. We have seen less and less governmental oversight and a DECREASE in competition due to our "winner take all" capitalism. It doesn't have to be this extreme. You should not have to be a CEO of a public company to have a safe and decent life here.
@triquepersonalwork6369 Жыл бұрын
@@TuckFrump-r9h Well, I am actually well educated on the French welfare socialist system if we want to take that as an example, and most other countries in Europe like Britain, Italy, Spain, Germany and others being very similiar. So, French Citizens pay an additional 22% off the top of gross income for health care ("social charges" it is called), and their individual tax rates in addition to the 22% is a sliding scale more progressive than the USA. And, under their, "Assurance Malade" single payer health care program, almost all necessary treatments are covered at 70%, so even under the socialized system, the people have to pay for visits, treatments and medicine. The reason American's don't vote for this sort of single payer system is that not only would they be taxed that 20% or so more, is because it would also extremely weaken the US GDP due to lower wages and less liquidity in the economy for every single person, it would not be just a tax on the rich, don't believe Bernie Sanders, the rich will always find tax loopholes that the ordinary people cannot find and have the money to hire expertise that can find those loopholes. Now, there is definately a problem with doctors and pharmaceutical companies driving up prices by overbilling insurance comapnies that needs to be regulated, but not socialized. When it comes to education, the Federal low and zero percent interest loans has been wholly responsible for driving up tuition prices, so you can thank the Federal government for causing high tuition prices.
