I have fond memories of tent camping in November on my open 19' boat up on the big lake decades ago. The wind would be blowing off the glacier and lost seemingly drunk snowflakes would make their way up onto my sleeping bag and associated blanket while I thought of what and where I would do and go the next day. Few things better than being safe under a canvas sipping a tea or coffee nibbling a little smoked salmon and listening to the rain and wind. I enjoy these videos very much.

All you angle grinder users... resist the temptation to use a cutting wheel also as a grinding disk. The cutting disk is not designed for that, the reinforcement will wear away and it could break under pressure.

One gets a rather distorted view of things from reading Swallows and Amazons. I don’t think any of the Walker children ever struggled to cut box metal stock with an angle grinder. Thanks for this (and all your other) nice videos displaying you and your „Avel Dro“. I‘d have loved to see you put a classic eye - splice with a nice whipping at the downhaul. Well done. I have some anti-rust painting to do on my trailer, and I have welded on two L-section steel struts to enhance the rigidity between the bar with the keel rollers and the axle with the rollers that keep the boat upright. I found that one of my keel rollers was loose and I was lucky not to have lost it on the road when I came back home from St Malo the other day. It has a new nut and bolt and will get a couple of spots of welding. I have also been sewing the loop on my mainsheet so as not to have a big clumsy bowline. Plenty of fun for the winter as well as the new season we all look forward to!

Roger, Cutting those hull supports will have breeched the galvanisation layer making them prone to rusting, particularly as they are the most likely part to be imersed in salt water. You really need to treat the cut ends with something like a cold galvanic paint. It won't be as effective at preventing rust as the original galvanisation but it will certainly slow down any rusting.

Angle grinders, how did we ever live without them?
@andyjarman49583 жыл бұрын
Excellent. Thanks. Francois recommends not using rollers on the keel because it raises the boat higher. But I've always worried the outer rollers will deform the hull strakes if all the boat's weight is put on them. Fantastic to get a close up of the arrangement on your trailer, I can show it to the trailer fabricators to get what I want now. Not sure they've ever seen a broken back trailer either. My Ilur build is half way through now, not long before I flip the hull over and start on the interior.
