I love twinkles, however all the ones I have had, have gone to twinkle heaven. I have. It mastered their care, so I gave up . Not sure if I would have better luck with mounting instead of potting . Big mama is stunning, can’t wait to see it in bloom. Thanks for sharing.

Many Oncidium types are 'lost' due to roots staying too wet when the plant's not in growth. Almost impossible to overwater a mount!

That Sotoanum is exquisite! My twinkles are in bud too. 😍 Funny, I have an oncidium that 1/2 the leaf is yellowing, the other half is green. Crazy! Right in the center of the plant. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼it’s not an issue!

I had twinkles bloom in the middle of summer and in 30 C heat. I could forget to water them for much longer than expected from such a small orchid. I had them in hydroponics. I loved them. The I had to go to hospital for several months and most of my orchids died. Today I bought several new ones. This time I want to take good care of them. My guess is - these will not be so forgiving. 😅

Last week I bought an obvious oncidium. The tag on it said "Cambria". Looks like I got myself a twinkle 😂 delikate branching spikes with soft pink flowers from both sides of the pseudobulb. Flowers have bright yellow part above the lip... I think it's Twinkle CT Flamingo (have no idea what CT stands for)
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai4 жыл бұрын
Cambria is just used as a generic 'trade name' (it used to actually mean the plant had a set of specific orchids types in it's make up but that's been lost now with all the re-classification). Does sound like a Twinkle of some kind.
@michaelmccarthy40775 жыл бұрын
Katrin Zoch isn't that distant, it is a primary hybrid of schroederianum and sotoanum whereas Twinkles are cheirophorum and sotoanum. I guess that would make them half siblings?
@popescuvictoria3472 жыл бұрын
Are you saying that the orchid attached to the bark at the end of the film will rot because you sprayed it with too much water, but in the jungle, where its natural habitat is and it rained heavily, how do these plants survive in that moisture?
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai2 жыл бұрын
In the wild, an orchid will only survive if the place where it germinates is suitable. And, in the wild, the tree (bark) is living and doesn't rot.
@Kdunksallday5 жыл бұрын
Do they spike when the weather gets cold like phals?
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai5 жыл бұрын
They produce their spikes as the new growths progress - can be anytime of year really.

Started with one twinkle , it grew and grew never bloomed i divided it those divisions grew and grew nice and green never bloomed long story short i now have 6 oncidium twinkle that grow wild green with healthy bulbs and never bloom is it, light ,,fertilizer ??? before long i will have ten as they continue to outgrow the pots but never bloom, what type fertilizer do you use ? Thank you great channell
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai2 жыл бұрын
Strong healthy hybrids can sometimes be reluctant to bloom. You could try drmatically reducing their feed and/or switch to a low Nitrogen feed - and perhaps, a bit more light?
@MrJenten10 Жыл бұрын
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai Thanks for the reply actually trying more light now as Fall is here and the strong summer sun is no longer an issue.

WOW! What beautiful Twinkle, I have some sad news, can an orchid die in a matter of a couple of days? It looks healthy with a spike and two new strong growth at each side, l looked at it today the orchid new growth all soft, nothing to save on it, what’s happened? Your Sunday chat was very heart warming and l hope the sons and daughters who only remember their mum’s and dads on birthday and Christmas take notes Bye
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai5 жыл бұрын
For an orchid to go down fast, it's normally a bacterial infection - there is no real cure as it takes hold fast. The only way to save the plant is if there are some parts that are not infected that can be cut off and grown on separately.
@kathleenlightfoot6715 жыл бұрын
Roger's Orchids Hi Rodger Thanks for the reply. That just my luck, l through thinks we’re going to will, I noticed another orchid today looking dodgy, all the roots were rotten, any advice? Besides the bin, I check out places to buy a horticultural light form, Bye K

Now that I'm reasonably good at keeping them watered and alive, I really appreciate Oncidium types (I always loved them the moment I saw those pseudobulbs lol) They really don't have the guess work most other orchids do...whether it's right before or right after the forming of the pseudobulb they spike right on time like a fine Swiss timepiece! (BTW- That's just a saying, If there is any "bad blood" between the UK and the Swiss I can assure you I know nothing of it!😅) I really, really hope I like the fragrance of mine😳
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai5 жыл бұрын

I must say, it is annoying when they go off with changing the names like that. :D was a bit puzzled at one point when I got old records with Onc. ornithorhyncum as parent, not sotoanum.
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai5 жыл бұрын
There's a story there. The original plant was discovered and described about 150 years ago. The drawing was in black and white and for many many years was assumed to be yellow (ornithorhyncum) . More recently, it was confirmed that original plant was in fact pink and a new name sotoanum was assigned.
